I didn't think we would be in the top 4. I guess I still haven't grasped fully how we are in that elite class now. We can lose a game and still be in the top 4. If we had beat Syracuse we'd just be 1 spot higher. So as long as we win out we're definitely in. Ohio St can't even say that right now.
Anybody who suggests Wisconsin will not be taken seriously by me - how will you recover from that??
Wisconsin's opponents before yesterday had an average Sagarin rating of 90.6. 90.6! And then they somehow played a team that was rated 30% worse (#118 overall) in Illinois. They can't be taken seriously as a playoff candidate. I don't care if they win out and beat the Buckeyes in the B1G title game. Can't allow this to happen.
1. Alabama 2. Georgia 3. Clemson 4. Notre Dame
Clemson has 6 wins against P5 teams with winning records. I think Notre Dame is second with 4.
Someone had the correct four...wrong order though.

The committee is obviously rewarding strength of victories over badness of a loss, right now. There might be a situation where Clemson can lose against in the regular season, still make the ACC championship and the playoffs. I don't think they can survive a loss in the ACC championship and still get in.
The nightmare scenario for the committee is: Georgia wins out regular season, Bama drops one regular season game, Bama beats Georgia in SECCG. Clemson wins out and Wins ACCCG, OSU/Wisconsin wins out and wins B1GCG, OKSt win out and win BIG12CG, ND wins out.
That would easily be the most controversial top 4 in the playoff's young life.
Edit - I completely forgot about the PAC12, toss in 1 loss PAC12CG champ UW.

As far as Big Ten goes, Wisconsin winning out is the toughest scenario for the Committee, especially if they only squeak by OSU in the conference finals. If OSU wins out they’ll make it in.
And yet I see people online repeatedly making the case that it's not Jones fault his players can't catch/block/etc and can only work with what talent he has.

Clemson can't lose again. I meant that we're on the level where we can lose to Syracuse and it doesn't even matter. Your scenarios made my head hurt, I didn't finish reading. Georgia and Bama are in a position of they can lose one and still be in. ND and Clemson win out they're in. The only way anyone else gets in is ND and Clemson loss.
Also, there's another report that Jones's agent has his buyout negotiated and is shopping him for his next job. Just when I had settled on him being gone at the end of the regular season.

There's some possibility of just the winner of the SEC getting in depending on the results of the game and others, but I agree that it's most likely both get on if they go to Atlanta undefeated

It's 3 things that separates them.
1.Coaching 2.Clemson is really particular about recruiting. They could probably get higher rated players, but they only pick guys that fit the program. They stay away from trouble kids and drama queens. 3.QB

Wisconsin needs every other possible team to lose two more games to have a case to get in. If Wisconsin gets in the playoff, I'm forking done with college football. How many teams in America would be undefeated against their schedule so far? A shit ton, that's the answer.

Even though I wouldn't agree with it all, I have a hard time seeing Wisconsin not making the playoff undefeated. Especially if Ohio St is 1-loss/top-5 going into the BIG10 title game.
Other thoughts regarding the playoff. 1) I don't see any Big12 team coming out of conference championship week with only 1 loss. 2) If Georgia/Bama both are undefeated when they face each other in the SEC title game, it would take a three score differential in the game for them both not to make it.

I think, if that scenario plays out, Wisconsin would have one victory over a top 25 opponent - those buckeyes in the title game. That's unacceptable to me.

The committee would never leave out an undefeated P5 conference champ. Never. Never. Ever. Why play the damn games?

Like, say, Martavis Bryant?
Good job naming the one big exception. I was wondering the other day why they ever bothered with that kid.

I'll give you that Hurd was a bit of a prima donna, but overall, Jones hasn't had a lot of issues with problem players. It's one of the things that has made the recent issues with Kelly and Gaulden stand out all the more.

If Wisconsin gets in over one loss teams, that's what every one of them will be saying. Why should Clemson play Auburn out of conference? Why should Georgia play Notre Dame out of conference? Why should Ohio State play Oklahoma out of conference?
There are probably 30 teams in the country that would be undefeated with Wisconsin's schedule. Washington also doesn't get off that easily, their schedule stinks, but they at least have Stanford in their half of the division.

Agreed. If Wisconsin goes undefeated, they're going to end up in the top four. They will likely then get killed by the #1 seed which will cause everyone to be pissed we wasted a playoff game on them. That being said, I doubt they go undefeated.

Point of order: and undefeated Wisconsin would likely have two wins over ranked teams, since Michigan will likely be back up around 20 or so by then. Also, at some point it’s not their fault they’re in the weak half of the conference and BYU sucks this year.

these games are set up years in advance, you can't project future success. BYU is usually solid, this year they aren't.
To use your Auburn example, their last 5 seasons they've been 8-5, 7-6, 12-2, 3-9, 8-5. They could have easily scheduled this series 4 years ago and gotten the 3-9 Auburn and we're having the same discussion (obviously sans playoff), but you can schedule P5 teams that you think will be good, but it's not a guarantee.
at least the B1G/Big12 play 9 conference games and most play 10 P5, unlike the ACC and SEC who play 9P5 opponents more often than not.

Also, I think the loser of the Georgia Bama game will be out. The “they had their chance” takes will be overwhelming. Especially if it’s Georgia.
Georgia's win over ND is this years OSU win over OU, right now, it's the best win of any team in CFB. If ND wins out, and Bama wins a close SECCG over Georgia, how do you keep out Georgia since they beat ND?
You guys are over-complicating. The top 4 win (and one loss when Uga and Bama play each other) they're in. It doesn't matter what 5-12 do. Of course one of the top 4 will probably lose and then we can get crazy.
