After the top 10 or so, who's worth checking out that has vocals to their music? I'm familiar with Kimbra, Of Montreal, Shabazz Palaces, Lil B. After digging deeper into the lineup (which is really just me taking stabs and random artists), Now that the hype has died down I'm beginning to think this fest is too instrumental and bleep-bloopy for my tastes.
The militant woman deep down inside of you might dig Princess Nokia. Cardi B is with Worldstar. I don't really know that there is much (any?) Bleep Bloop on the lineup. I wouldn't consider Pretty Lights or G. Jones that at all. Nina Kravitz is house and Rezz is a mix of things. Like I said, I'm only down to DJ Tennis and Tim Hecker on the lineup - so maybe there is some?

For what it's worth, most of the "bleep bloop" acts on this lineup are not brainless/shallow dance music. Rather, it's more introspective electronica, with vocals coming from tape but still adding to the experience.

And since it's super unlikely that I can attend this in December, thought I'd list all the acts I've seen from the lineup since, A) it'll make me feel better, and B) everybody's doing it.
NIN (5x) Justice Solange St Vincent Tyler The Creator James Blake (2x) Nina Kraviz GY!BE GAS Of Montreal Kimbra Mount Kimbie Tim Hecker Forest Swords Andy Stott Demdike Stare (DJ Set) Earl Sweatshirt Jenny Hval

I'll do the same for the same reasons. I'd totally hit this up if I lived in H-Town, but I don't think it's worth travelling for since I've seen or will be seeing:
NIN Solange Justice St. Vincent Perfume Genius Lil B DJ Tennis Shabazz Palaces Andy Stott Jessy Lanza Kaytranada Earl Sweatshirt
Shit, that's not as many as I thought. So much for feeling better
It's worth traveling for. That's why it's so high up on so many great Inforoo posters' lists - even many who debate and disagree on music day to day. I'm telling you. My presales were like $102.40 each after taxes. It's always going to be worth that. Plus it's like a 70.00 flight from Miami to Houston. Be sure to allocate the weekend next year, and you won't be crying.
Does this fest do late lineup additions? Would love to see STS9 *or lotus* added to the mix. Either would be perfect for this thing.
No and yes.
I think they had some minor changes last year when a couple of people had to cancel. I don't remember if anyone was added though. I felt like with the way the festival is curated, that a couple of jamtronica acts would be perfect. Pretty Lights Live is close, but it's more soul/groove kind of shit than Lotus or Tribe.

With all due respect pretty lights is garbage compared to STS9 or lotus but do see how he is the closest thing on the current line up
I mean I've seen Sound Tribe more than any other band ever, and I've seen Lotus 3 times (in person), 2 of which were my shows of the year. So I sort of agree with you. But the current lineup of Pretty Lights Live isn't garbage at all. He's still Derek, but they've got some great f'n musicians in that band.

Good to know, i've only seen Pretty Lights DJ sets and they were awful. Are you sure he is playing with a band at D4N?
No, not sure. But that's what he's been doing the last 6 or 7 months. It's Alvin Ford Jr. (Dumpstaphunk, Tysson) on drums, Borahm Lee (Break Science) on keys, Chris Karns on Turntables (multiple world DJ/turntable championships) and Brandon Butler also on keys. I've seen a few nights of this lineup in person as well as some of the streams, because his shows are almost always free to watch on YouTube. They trick out a lot of shit and just groove along with live versions of remixed Pretty Lights songs or covers depending and sometimes they improv. Last I saw Pretty Lights do a DJ set was the Jazz Fest closeout in May second line and then show under the Interstate. He had some rappers with him and also some brass instrumentalists. It was spectacular. But yeah, sometimes he's just all f'd up and it's bizarre. None of the recent 10 shows or so I've been to or watched sucked at all. Obviously you have to somewhat like what they're doing, but here's a sample. And no, they haven't said if it's Derek as DJ or if it's PL Live.
It turns out that I will most likely not be able to go to this festival as I will be out of the US then.
As I have accidentally booked a non-refundable room at Club Quarters (Dec 15-18), before I call them to try to get my money back, I want to ask if anybody wants the room. Maybe they can change the name.
Please let me know by this Monday (09/25) if you're interested.

How do you see a band in any other way than in person? Were you standing outside the building?
It's crazy to me how different some acts are live vs. on record. For me, Jlin's recorded stuff was meh, then I put on a live vid on YouTube and was like YUP FUCKIN DOPE LETS GO.

We watch them on livestream pretty often though we ditched the Red Rocks show last weekend because Gorillaz was on at Meadows and PL did a free show after that. Ive probably seen Disco Biscuits 15 times on tv (will catch some of tonight's and tomorrow's free shows) but never in person. We try to keep the music at the crib going and try to update this (new) thread as often as possible. inforoo.com/thread/36324/webcasts-festivals-shows
I'll catch Chon and badbadnotgood tomorrow from Audiotree.
I was listening to Black Origami for the first time yesterday and after about 15 minutes realized that I had forgotten it was even on. To each their own.
You guys going over this year or bringing the ole lady? Looks to be a lot of trippy shit on the lineup with The Autumn Leaf, Pretty Lights, Gas, Jamie xx, Godspeed, Venetian Snares & Daniel Lanois, Forest Swords, etc. Hope to see you there if you can do it.
Moss - glad to hear you will be making it. You won't be disappointed. I'll see you at Voodoo if not before.
You wanna talk trippy shit? You better go and let Tim Hecker melt your mind!
Solid. One thing about the deeper shit on this lineup, and there is a shitload, is that the only trip I'm going to take is to Houston.
