will they offer one day tickets closer to the festival? This might be more do-able if I can do it without taking time off work and getting a hotel only 1 night
I don't think it is, as they don't advertise so. But, I don't remember if they advertised that last year.
Last year they did advertise something along the lines of free drinks and snacks iirc. I haven't really found much info on this year's Friday except for the lineup.
I got to the Friday preparty late last year, since my flight into Houston got delayed that evening (remember how I almost got stuck in fucking Chicago for the weekend? Fun times), and at that point Phyre Fest was already like 6 tallboys deep. But if IIRC the drinks were all free that night. You just walked up to the bar and asked for whatever they had listed. I can't imagine they'd change that part of it, especially given the price tag on the Summit.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Kaytranada, Saint Heron Presents "Soul Cleansing" featuring Solange, Jenny Hval, Boots, and Saul Williams, all in that venue. I'll definitely pay $100 for that show.

Hope Kaytranada just does a pure DJ set. Loved him the first time I saw, didn't care for him this last time. He got an hour and 15 in the Sahara to ask people to dance to his album(that I liked a lot) and playing shit I heard walking through the campground all weekend. I'm beyond excited for this fest now that I've got everything locked in. I never thought that I would be going to a festival in December.

You're not going to regret the decision. It's a different festival.

What is it that makes this fest stand out to you, other than the lineup? The emphasis on art? The location? Time of year?
There are a lot of contrasts. Right off the bat it's really a forward looking festival, but it's in a backwards environment. The original point was to confuse days with twilight and it completely works. You can wander from sphere of reality a to x in 20 minutes. There are many distractions and lighting that will get your attention built into the shell of what the fest is. Then you have that amplified by actual light artists. So you can kind of take in light and sound in a different construct of ordinary if that makes sense. If not, it will when you go. Also the crowd is really cool and diverse. It was a party but there were a lot of people seriously into shit and also many of us just appreciating what we were beholding. There's a lot more to it like the food and lineup and all. But those would be the main things I think that differentiate D4N.
Edit to say probably the best I can explain it is that they trick out reality. If you also trick out reality, I could imagine it could lead down interesting paths.

I've been meaning to post on here for a while, end of last week was cray, but I've been listening to my playlist pretty nonstop, and it is remarkably good. Gonna be a dope weekend.
Seen NIN Solange x2 St. Vincent x2 Phantogram x2 Perfume Genius x2 of Montreal Priests
As far as who's awesome in the undercard, Perfume Genius is a whole different animal live, he's pretty fuckin phenomenal, I wouldn't miss it. Priests are also killer. I'm loving what I'm hearing from Princess Nokia; Jessy Lanza and Tim Hecker have also been pleasant surprises. Also don't sleep on Pussy Riot as a novelty act, everything I've heard is surprisingly strong, and at the same time a really wonderful artistic stance. I'm a total art nerd/theatre kid though so I dig that kind of thing.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

honestly, I have been, and idk why really. I've heard a couple of their songs in the past, but for some reason they aren't even on my radar for this fest. probably more to do with how much is on here I already like, but still.

Pussy Riot seems like a thing that will get conflicted out eventually for me. I can't do too much research right now because I think a lot of stuff I find will just be stuff I end up missing for James Blake.
I'm already at 20-something artists that I would at least be interested in checking out with nothing else going on:
Nine Inch Nails Justice James Blake Thom Yorke Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois Jamie xx Godspeed You! Black Emperor of Montreal The Jesus Lizard Jlin St. Vincent Solange Pretty Lights En Vogue Perfume Genius Priests Tim Hecker Tyler, the Creator Rezz Cashmere Cat Pussy Riot Lil B B L A C K I E Phantogram
Problem is, the gaps in the music schedule are your opportunities to look at the installations, too. There's always something going on.
"Herein lies the Day for Night global map of ticket buyers. People from all around the world are once again coming to see what we have in store here in Houston. We have sold way more tickets than we did this time last year and will likely sell out but we believe Trump's Muslim travel restrictions may have scared some of my brethren in the Middle East from attending. Also, Eastern European and Sub-Saharan Africa sales are down. Does anybody know any street teams in Zagreb or Kinshasa?"
When you blow up a snip-tool picture of the US, it's apparent that the eastern half of Texas, South Louisiana, Colorado, Florida, parts of the Midwest, Northeast, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland seem to be the most interested. I'm not sure how many people a "circle" represents, though I personally know about 15 people from New Orleans and Baton Rouge who went last year who will be going back.

I see my light circle right over Mobile! Might be just me.

yeah idk, they said more tickets this year, but last years map seemed more spread, that's probably the NIN v Aphex side of things. To FPH's mention of the Muslim ban, we also had Marcel Khalife & Co. last year which idk that there's an act quite like that on the line.
I forgot to link this for you in the response last week. Scroll down to "Campus" and the video runs for about 35-40 seconds. There is a drone shot of the building, then they go into the ground floor. Obviously it's not decked out like it will be once the festival is lit up. dayfornight.io/about-day-for-night/
Art Installation
Red Stage
I couldn't find any good shots of the Red Stage with the downtown Houston backdrop on a GIS, though I thought Phyre Fest might have had some up last year on his report on Festive Owl.

You got a link to that? I can't find it in a search on Chrome for whatever reason.

I agree. I think Aphex definitely has the power to draw people from further distances.

You ever mention my name with Festive Owl again I'm going to light you on fire next time I see you. And these are the closest shots I have from last year that show the backdrop of the city.

I tried to go through their posts, couldn't find it. idk I definitely remember a "___% of our tickets are from outside Houston" thing.
I did see that the Boiler Room announcement was mid-late Nov.

Does anyone know if Thom Yorke plays Radiohead material at his solo shows? Seems like he hasn't released anything in a little while, so maybe he's planning something soon.
Must See 2018 List: 1. Drake 2. The Cure 3. David Byrne 4. King Krule 5. Moses Sumney 6. Dua Lipa 7. Mount Kimbie 8. Perfume Genius 9. Yaeji 10. Big Thief

Oh shit, Snobs. Your time as Festive Bowel fucked me up on that. I still spit laughing every time I think of that.

I meant the link to the article you quoted with the circles of ticket buyers. I couldn't find that on their FB, Twitter or website and Free Press was down when I tried to look there.
