Not to do with this year, but after patiently waiting for a long time, I just purchased a black variant of Jermaine Roger’s Aphex Twin print (black variant only 30 in the edition) from last year!!!

Anyone else doing the Friday summit? Did I already ask that before? I can't contain my excitement for this
I got it. Pretty stoked, been wanting to see Earl for years, haven't had much opp to see Kaytranada, Saul is going to be sick, Jenny will be a trip. I would like to be able to see Chelsea speak, idk how they're going to schedule all that, but I vividly remember seeing the video she leaked all those years ago and just being in awe and thinking it was going to be a big moment, and now so much has changed it'll be interesting to hear what she's got to say.
*also, BOOTS should be cool, his solo stuff is whatever, but he's pretty talented and the Beyonce/RTJ co-signs should solidify that. He also came out for RTJ's set at ACL a couple years ago and seemed to be pretty high energy.

I'm pretty happy with all the live performances that night and I want to see the Chelsea talk as well. Boots is alright, I saw him open for RTJ. It wasn't for me. High energy is a great way to describe him lol.
Earl hasn’t been that great live. I’ve seen him twice at Buku where he should have fit in perfectly. Both shows people left en mass.
eh, I don't listen to Earl for his hype and energy, nor do I expect a spectacle.
That isn’t what I said. I said he should have fit in fine both times. He was at the Ballroom Stage both times. Buku has hype shows there, but that’s not all it is by miles even including EDM or hip hop.
Part of me thinks OFWGKTA is like 25% pretty ok rap and 75% PR hype machine.
Where does Frank Ocean fit into this equation?
You caught me. I generally don't consider his connection all that much. To answer you literally, though, he lends them a ton of credibility that their earlier work would have been severely lacking in. Almost no working pop musician is hyped up as more IMPORTANT than Frank Ocean right now. Odd Future are marketed extremely well.
I need the schedule soon so I can cry for two weeks about conflicts and then get excited again.
Kiss my ass for reminding me r. For all the whiners on popular music festival boards that whine about conflicts, this is completely different. There are so many rare acts that I want to see that are going to be fucking nearly impossible to catch with 40 minute sets and having to run across the festival grounds to split sets. This is fucked up but I at least want to see 27 acts in the two days I'm there. I'm thinking 17-20 is way more realistic (NiN, Thom Yorke, Justice, St. Vincent, James Blake, Pretty Lights, Jamie XX, Phantogram, P Riot, Jesus Lizard, GY!BE, Laurie Anderson, Cardi B, Gas, En Vogue, Lil B, of Montreal, Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois, Princess Nokia, Shlohmo, The Album Leaf, Tim Hecker, Forest Swords, G Jones, Shabazz Palaces, Andy Stott, Roni Size...)

Yeah its gonna be brutal mate. My biggest concern was James Blake and Tim Hecker. But too my lovely surprise they are playing on totally separate days so at least that's one I wont have to worry about. Personally what I've found helpful tho is to make a list of each day with the all the artists that you know you either might/definitely want to see. Weed out all the bullshit. And for each day rank those in order of importance. It has helped me feel a lot less overwhelmed or worried. Cuz I can look at my list and know I should be able to at least see 5 of my top 10 for each day.

it's crazy how low the headliners are on my list when i lay it out like that.
I got your tag but didn't want to mess up the other thread. I'll give DJ Tennis a listen again. I'm sure what I call house is way more broad than what others do. I never liked the 80s90s techno/raver shit even what they called Acid House back then (shit like SNAP! / I got the Power...) which is now apparently Eurohouse. I don't mind some of what they call Deep House or what passes for that. I was just not a dancer and was a rocker back then so the repetitive stuff just never grew on me whereas some of the modern genres like dub or trap and underground I find often to be pretty cool now though I'm not on the shit most of the people listening are on. Haha. I gotta look back to The by days and will revisit a top 10/12 each day.
1. Nine Inch Nails (and I hope they get 2 hours) 2. Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois 3. Laurie Anderson 4. G. Jones 5. Pretty Lights 6. Jamie xx 7. Gas 8. Lil B 9. Princess Nokia 10. of Montreal 11. Roni Size 12. Andy Stott 13. Forest Swords

right on man, that all sounds reasonable. if that's the case you probably wouldn't dig the DJ Tennis mix I posted, but who knows. the reason I asked is because the term "house" often gets applied to modern DJs like Hardwell, who are really just playing pop/EDM, which for the most part is indeed garbage. while actual house music (and techno) has a deep and rich history that I find interesting (which I type as I sit here listening to vinyl ripped Model 500 tracks from the 80's).
