I forget where I saw this, but some people were guessing that the little sports bar (the cantina I believe?) would be VIP only this year. I really hope not, that place was such a hidden gem.

Inside the craft beer barn? That would be shitty because it's always easy to get a place to sit there during downtime and cool off with a drink.

Yeah exactly that place, it was basically a sports bar with real bathrooms and everything. I watched the 4th quarter of a GSW game in there. I forget what the reasoning was for thinking it would be VIP, something to do with the Sahara relocation being right by there.

Damn, yea that makes sense as to why they would but I hope it's wrong.

I watched the game in there too. Would be a bummer if it's not available to GA this year.
I thought that thing had like a two hour wait last year and you had to make a reservation super early in the day and shit? Maybe I was too drunk to find it lol

You're thinking of the secret Tiki Bar thing, which was also in that area. What I'm talking about was a permanent structure, I believe it's what's called the Cantina in the map.

So I've tried to listen to A Perfect Circle because people in this thread seem excited about them. I feel like I'm on the outside of some joke. It just sounds like terrible butt-rock radio music to me.

Yeah.
I liked APC back when I was 12, but the only album of theirs that I loved was Mer De Noms, and even that I'm not dying to listen to these days.
1. It's rare to see legends such as Maynard and James Iha together on stage, even if it's not in their respective "best" projects; they're enjoying it and its an alternate outlet for their respective talents. Like a top shelf craft brewery making an easy drinking Pilsner 2. I wouldn't call them butt rock, more like sophisticated bottom rock. It's definitely the same alternative guitars, aggressive lyrics and other signature butt rock staples, but they mix in things like different time signatures and tuning scales (see: Judith) that make for a more complex listen than standard butt rock 3. I would legitimately call "Thirteenth Step" a great record without "butt rock" qualifiers, there really isn't much indie/alternative rock nowadays that goes for the sprawling textural differences between, say, "A Package" vs. "Blue" vs. "The Nurse Who Loved Me" with the complexities of the orchestration and composition 4. There really isn't much/any hard rock booked any more at major festivals. Even in the last couple years you'd get an AC/DC at Coachella or a Slayer at Bonnaroo or something like that, but pretty much everything heavy with guitars is getting pushed to the mid-level fests (see where Tool got booked last year) or replaced with synths. It's pretty enjoyable to embrace the dying breed of what's going to be a loud, booming, heavy guitar show at night at a major festival
In summary, I don't think it's possible to be upset by the lack of 'bands' at Coachella this year than dismiss APC. I think people on this board would go nuts if a festival booked The Prodigy, and some of their stuff is a blend of cringeworthy/laughable/uneasy/etc. - I feel like this is the same. It may be a band that may represent butt rock's smart cousin, but overall it is a great show to catch at a mainstream festival in 2018.

Glad I'm not the only one, I couldn't get into it at all. Gimme rock like Otoboke Beaver, Priests, etc. any day.

I read a great description of A Perfect Circle that went along the lines of "a hard rock version of The Cure's Disintegration album". Which I think is pretty spot-on. I saw them live once and they're not great, but definitely good.

Your familiarity with actual butt-rock is suspect.
What do you guys recommend for W2 next year? Go for the presale and if I get lucky just be happy with that? Or play the waiting game and maybe get one under face on the secondary market? W1 seems like year after year it's the harder/pricier pass.

WK 2 seems to consistently go under face, so I’d say wait it out. This could alter if they get someone crazy like Daft Punk, though, but even then I could see it going below face.

I don't think presale is any cheaper, and W2 tickets haven't been too hard to get during the general on sale date. I would just wait until the lineup is out if you want to do W2.
