What do you guys recommend for W2 next year? Go for the presale and if I get lucky just be happy with that? Or play the waiting game and maybe get one under face on the secondary market? W1 seems like year after year it's the harder/pricier pass.
There's nothing wrong with settling for Weekend 2. In hindsight I have experienced stellar weekends for both 1 and 2 so there's really not much of a difference. That said the most logical way to get Weekend 1 tix for face is through the presale. After that (and given that you are set on the first weekend) I would just put aside $500 and expect to use most of it on an aftermarket ticket. Either way it's good to lock travel and accommodations in asap. Once those plans are solidified, dropping $500 for a ticket doesn't seem so bad and you're all set.

After Stubhub fees, I don’t think the savings on a Weekend 2 ticket is worth the piece of mind of actually having a ticket when you’re dropping a bunch of money on all the other related plans.

Exactly.
If you're going WK2, you can skip pre-sale since WK2 tix aren't hard to come by at on-sale.
At that point, you'll know the poster and know if you're in or out, and just spend the $429 (that's an after fee/tax price). Even if you get lucky and get a ~$350 pass in April, you're paying ~$400ish after StubHub fees and the ~$25-30 you saved isn't worth the hassle of a Stubhub transaction IMO. Plus the box is almost worth $30 lol.

I keep forgetting about those damn StubHub fees, good points all around. I agree that going for WK2 during the general sale after the lineup comes out is the way to go.
Yeah there's really no way we aren't going next year since we have the place booked and paid for and the dates are for W2. Sounds like I should just wait, though. Not gonna hurt. That gives people some time who are on the fence too. We have 5 for sure but we'd like to get to 8 people since that's what the house holds.
That makes me think that picture is wrong actually. wouldn't having a wall without a way in and out in the back be kinda dangerous?
I guess they could be lifting that whole structure or something.
I’m assuming there will be some spots open to go in and out from the opposite wall just like the other tents.
I just don't see it. If anyone big plays there the whole area is gonna be full. Imagine being trapped in that top right corner. The left side of the stage being the only way in and out of the whole area sounds like a really bad idea to me.

This is what basically happened at the Worldwide Stage at Ultra in 2013. It was insanity, and they've since put smaller acts there.

Well we do have smaller acts in the Sahara this year.

I think that the point is to make a huge, freeform, DoLab-like area where people can still have great views and acoustics even if you are spilling out the side of the tent. The back right area looks small but is likely larger than last year's choke point in between the Sahara and Do Lab, which was a main pathway. With the views available outside the tent, left of the stage, I would assume that back right side will be the road less traveled and end up being the not-so-secret way to get a good spot showing up to a set late. Remember that the tent already has a 25% larger footprint and GV seems to have booked fewer EDM acts in an attempt to mitigate the stage camping.
This should be great for the fest. Showing up right before a good Sahara set like Ratatat and ending up all the way outside the tent with zero acoustics has always been my issue with that corner of the field.
You guys could be right, you seem very confident. Looking at that drone footage though, there seems like more room, more sight lines, and less bottlenecks if they kept the normal orientation of the stage.

I agree that generally sight lines would be much improved, but that comes at the cost of being further away from the sights themselves in what I would assume is a slightly longer tent. Aligning the stage along a leg is a happy medium between crowd acoustics and visuals. With the added bonus that you aren't pumping low frequencies (with long propagation distances) directly into the middle of the fest and towards the Main Stage. Seems to make sense that the SW/NE orientation was also partially chosen as a way to mitigate pumping sound into the campgrounds. The other wall of the tent should further dampen sound bleed towards Lot 8 and the lighthouse hill.
The biggest problem with the Sahara that people complain about is groups pushing through to the front, which creates waves of shoving. Putting everyone closer to the stage makes a lot of sense to me.
Last point: having both ends open allows air to flow through and wick heat off the crowd. Another problem people complain about is the stagnant air and I think the open sides really help.
For sure. But there's some fun shit in there I hope they show on the Television Broadcast. I always liked Busta Rhymes. Barely Alive is one of my favorite DJ's, and I like Virtual Riot (from Germany) as well - looks like a Black Label Records b2b, so that's going to be hard for those who like the hard dub. I always liked seeing 12th Planet live as well. Boogie T is decent and is a fairly good guitar player if he breaks that out. While not a giant fan or anything, Ducky was far better than I thought she'd be when I encountered her. I missed the Brownies and Lemonade Allstars at Buku, but that's an outfit out of Los Angeles that throws parties and curates shows.
