I will be doing option #2 exactly how you have it laid out
Yep. I did War on Drugs>St Vincent>Soulwax>JMJ>Jamiroquai. Would do again 9/10 times. The other time I would try to dip out to see Maceo Plex.
JMJ was freaking amazing though. And no one was at the stage. We got a great spot - soulwax was so good, but glad I left a few minutes early to see JMJ.
Also, haven't seen in mentioned a ton, but Jungle fucking threw down Saturday night. That was such a fun, fun set. If you go to post malone instead of that, you will wake up with the stale taste of regret.
This is another conflict of mine. I love Jungle's live show, but it's not much different than their setlist from three years ago. Plus I can see them at Bonnaroo. I'm leaning towards going to check out The Black Madonna. I love her studio stuff, but I'm not sure if she plays much of it in her DJ sets. Then there's Tom Misch, who I've heard great things about, but I'm not too familiar with.
honestly not really worried about that whole conflict anymore. Black coffee > moon boots > 40 minutes of Detroit Love > Soulwax > an hour to split between Maceo Plex and JMJ > Jamiroquai is going to be amazing.
The fact that none of those shows seem like they'll be that full should make it easy enough.

Yea I can see that with Jungle. That was my first time seeing them and I'm a junkie for the Mojave.
I intended to see Black Madonna, and heard good things about the set. But honestly was satisfied post Jungle so just met up with group, watched a bit of beyonce & hit antarctic. Thought Black Madonna would play longer set but Yuma was closed when arrived.
Ok, should I just go Soulwax>Jamiroquai on Friday, and watch their entire sets?
Or should I watch the first 45 minutes or so of Soulwax, watch about a half hour of JMJ, come back for the start of Jamiroquai, then go watch Carpenter Brut?
I did the 2nd option and would absolutely do it again. Went all of Soulwax, cut over to see about 10 min each of JMJ and Maceo Plex, back for Jamiroquai, cut out of Jamiroquai at 12 to go to Carpenter Brut, and then left CB at 1230 to see last part of Rezz.
Soulwax was the best set of the whole festival, and basically ruined everything else after it, because none could come close to measuring up. JMJ didn't have many people at it, and the part I saw with the laser harp was cool. Maceo Plex was worth checking out for a few minutes as well if you're into him. Jamiroquai was solid, but I was expecting great and it wasn't that. Carpenter Brut was good too, but it was empty as fuck to the point that it was a little depressing. I did like the 80s horror film visuals and I dug the music. Rezz was packed and a fun way to end the night, plus right next to the exit so easy to get out and beat most of the rest of the crowd.
Whatever you do, don't leave Soulwax early. You'll regret it and JMJ/MP is not worth missing any of Soulwax for.
Going to attempt the Black Coffee>Dreams>Soulwax>Jamiroquai run. Not since the Toro Y Moi>Jungle>Run The Jewels>Kasabian run of 2015 have I attempted to not piss for 4 sets.
Cool story: I tried not to poop the whole way through Roo '15. I made it to about halfway through MMJ's set Saturday night.

By all accounts Moon Boots seemed to be meh
the hour after black coffee is kinda barren for me. Any suggestions?
Are you guys planning on seeing any Sahara shows? Seems like a cool stage and the only thing I saw there last year was Gucci Mane for 10 minutes from like a mile away. I might see if I can get in there for Migos.
migos had an insane crowd. Good luck getting anywhere close for that.
I might check out Justin Martin or a few minutes of Troyboi just to experience the Sahara.

So the stage in Sahara is more in the middle of the tent versus being at the end of the tent like it was previously? When I was checking out streams I thought it looked weird.
Is it just me or does that seem like a strange move

More people are closer to the stage this way and people can view it from outside of each end. It was a good move. Still not going to contain those acts.

I don't want to admit this is over, but here are some scattered thoughts.
As a big Beyonce fan, Beychella was a once in a lifetime experience, and that show alone made this entire trip worth it for me. I don't know if it's even an exaggeration to say it's the best thing I've ever seen. And that's something I never thought I'd say after Paul McCartney at Roo '13 in the pit. I loved the HBCU concept, all the choreography, the setlist, the guests, and just about everything about the show. She is truly a legend and the praise she receives is absolutely warranted.
This was my third Coachella and they've continually proven themselves to me to be the best NA festival out there. My only gripe has nothing to do with the crowds but with the short set times. When acts start late (which happened quite a few times, not sure if this is a weekend 1 issue since this was the first time I didn't do weekend 2) it can make a set much shorter than it should be. BROCKHAMPTON and Kelela in particular were two shows that felt way too short.
On the topic of crowds - that really isn't an issue at all. People taking photos in front of the ferris wheel does absolutely nothing to detract from your experience. The slight lack of engagement from some crowds is such an irrelevant trade off for the fest being located in a literal paradise seemingly filled with nothing but gorgeous people. The biggest plus of this festival is that it's incredibly easy to get prime spots for almost any show you want to see, especially the shows most board members here would want to see, without having to pack into a sweaty, crowded tent for an hour+ beforehand. It also makes for some really engaged albeit smaller crowds for some of the less popular shows.
Some other personal music highlights were Vince Staples (seriously, can more people pls jump on this bandwagon because this dude is a star), St. Vincent, Jamiroquai, Yaeji, BROCKHAMPTON, Tyler the Creator, and Jessie Ware.
I also loved being a part of Weekend 1 because of the guest appearances. I got to see Carly Rae Jepsen at Bleachers (a gay man's dream), Snoop Dogg at Jamiroquai, Kendrick at Vince Staples and SZA, and Too Short and YG at Kamaiyah. And that's not even getting into the guest spots at Beyonce's show.
Food was also bomb af. Had the milky bun from After's Ice Cream and now have the diabeetus, that lobster mac and cheese is to die for, and I was also a big fan of the Japanese hot dogs.
And I had the pleasure of meeting Fozzie Bear who was such a nice guy. I hope you make it down for iii Points this year and we can catch some shows together!
Overall it was an exhausting, amazing weekend. This will likely be my last Coachella for a few years because of some upcoming life plans for me, so I tried my best to really soak it in. Hopefully they continue to book fantastic lineups that pique my interest and I'll get to have a Beyonce-esque homecoming in a few years.
I'd rate a bunch of the shitty ass EDM they have booked is much worse than Post Malone. Post Malone is bad but this board acts like hes the worst artist on earth. There are much worse rappers than him.

This, a thousand times. Some of those Sahara acts they book are just mind-numbingly terrible. Post Malone is corny, but his music is mediocre at worst, imo.
