Just saw some vids from the kickoff of the Depeche Mode tour, if theyre really headlining 2018 you're in for a treat. The set list looks awesome, decent amount of deep cuts from the 80s.
cool cool can't wait for you to pretend to go next year and then tell us all how good DM was but how shitty the crowd is
This is getting really creepy but whatever floats your boat man.
Waiting to hear prices on Katy's rental. But I am a lean no. Coachella doesnt make too much sense for me, living where I do. I can do three festivals around here for the price of Coachella; also pretty much every act they book comes through here anyway. But I am considering it, just to say I did it at least once, and check it off the list.

I would perhaps be less inclined to go to Coachella if I lived in NY or Chicago or the sort, but the experience itself was fantastic. After attending Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, P4K, Ultra, etc., Coachella blew them out of the water.

I want to go to Coachella at least once. I'll wait until one of my friends that lives in CA want to go and I can camp with them. I want no part of driving or shuttling in and out every day. If the hotels were closer so be it, but I can't justify paying out the ass to be 30 miles away.

Yeah there's no comparison. We all have major or regional fests around at this point. This is our Glastonbury.

The hotel/airbnb prices are a bit high, but I'd imagine they'd be comparable to the cost of a camping ticket and renting/buying camping equipment and supplies. The shuttle never took longer than 40 minutes for us, and we weren't super close nor super far.

Yep. I'm still going to enjoy III Points and whatever cool FL festivals around me, but I know Coachella is very special and worth the trip.

There's hotels closer. Last three years I've stayed at a hotel 5 minutes away and I usually have to wait for the shuttle for about 15 minutes max.

Are you going?
Yep, I live in LA so Coachella/FYF are my annual spring/summer staples since I moved out here a few years ago and I try to fit in one other fest time/money/schedule permitting to travel to each year. Did Lolla last year while visiting a buddy in Chicago, doing Primavera Sound this year, have my eyes on another "kill two birds with one stone" trip with one of the east coast ones in NY/Boston potentially next year by visiting buddies on the east coast and going to a fest.
Totally get your point. It's expensive as hell to get out here and while - from my point of view - Coachella still posts the best lineup of any fest, it's hard to really say there's that many acts you can't catch in NYC, SF, or Chicago. That said, stayed in a house of 17 people this year that was about half Coachella virgins and everyone was pretty much blown away. People had been to a good amount of fests before (OSL, Lolla, etc.) but it's really a great experience to be able to say you did once and I think worth the expense at least one time. Beer on me in the craft beer garden in April if you make it out.

"I'm really glad I put off going to Coachella all those years while I waited for the perfect circumstances to arise."

Camper. Van.
I'm considering this next year if I can't rally enough people for a house.
Can you park most of these camper vans in regular car camping?

Took a plane out from Philly this year so I can give an estimate on costs. We did car camping, brought the tent and canopy with us, and bought everything else out there. I have an American Airlines credit card so we got a few free checked bags (tent, canopy, and bag for various supplies like air mattress, speaker, towel, etc). We spent $450 at wal mart on supplies (food, alcohol, chairs, etc). The rental car was $500 because we got an SUV and we were all 24. All said and done, it ended up costing about 400 per person on top of flight, festival ticket, etc. Totally reasonable imo. Definitely liked being a 10 minute walk from festival to campsite.

10/10 would go again.
To provide a counterpoint, a group of five of us spent $147 each on a hotel for four nights and $30ish on a rental car for two nights.
I vote hotel every time. I'd prefer to not be glued to the site.
edit: but all one really needs is a tent, ticket, and travel. When I first started going (and would camp) the cost for me was similar to what I paid for Bonnaroo.

Sounds fair as well, ours might be on the higher side since we bought too much stuff at wal mart, and one of my friends dropped at the last minute so everything went from being split 4 ways to being split 3 ways. So coulda been 250ish per person.

Would be very surprised if Lana doesn't end up being the female pre-headliner on Sunday next year, like Florence, Sia, and Lorde have all been in the past three years.

I don't know what I expected from a song with that title but oof I did not like that. Can't tell if it's worse than "Lust for Life" but both are in the running for worst songs she's put out since her debut

I like how Launchpad says that the Coachella lineup doesn't really excite him because all the rare/cool acts come through NYC, but then he doesn't even go to see any of those acts when they're in town anyway.
You are keeping track of what shows I go to now? Sounds creepy.
Doesn't matter to the crowd that would see her. People just want to say they saw Lana Del Rey at Coachella. She does kind of embody the stereotype of the crowd

True, but worth noting if this next album bombs as well.
