Beyonce and Kanye being on the same lineup would make me lose my shit just as much as Beyonce and Radiohead on the same lineup did. I approve of this proposal.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but Depeche Mode have South American/Mexican dates scheduled for March 2018...seems to make them a little bit more likely. However, they're playing 3 sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl in October.
-Second headliner I feel will be some other type of co-number one like Radiohead was this year or the like. Given everyone knows Beyonce's on the lineup, I think GV will still want to pull some other big name and should have the budget to do it given expansion. Depeche Mode makes perfect sense (as would a Fleetwood Mac) and just seems to be lined up well with tour dates, etc. Plus, those Bowl shows were running insane prices so I don't really think have much of an impact on if GV would book them, Metallica isn't happening with those tour dates.
-Third headliner I think will be a crossover headliner from their other fests - 2017 candidates would be Chance, Frank, Mumford (ugh), or Nine Inch Nails. A potential 2018 crossover act could be The Strokes - if booked for Panorama '18 and Coachella '18 it would be 2 and 3 years respectively since their last NYC and LA shows ('16 Gov Ball and '14 FYF), the same amount of time between their previous NYC and SoCal shows ('14 Gov Ball and '11 Coachella). Given the raucous '14 FYF crowd I think they'd be received very well and would fit budget and genre needs if Depeche Mode is #2 and Beyonce #1.
no problem cant wait for you to go next year then make a new account telling us about your first coachella and how DM was great but how the crowd was bad or wahtever
So I'm sitting at LAX waiting for a flight (only 4 more hours due to a delay FML) and I thought I'd share my thoughts on my first Coachella while it's all still relatively fresh in my mind.

I think Vampire Weekend is far more likely (and a better move) than the Strokes. Being the first big fest to book VW as a headliner would be big for both parties, while Coachella getting a Strokes set in 2018 would just feel kind of lazy.

Can't wait for him to bitch about flight prices for weekend two then tell everyone how he's going weekend one.
Are Radiohead and Depeche Mode on the same level of both popularity and critical acclaim?
Radiohead is probably more critically lauded, DM has put out some great albums but also a couple clunkers (Delta Machine!). Popularity is tough to gauge, DM is playing 3 nights in LA and 2 at MSG in NY. They have a much larger tour than Radiohead, but Radiohead choose to keep their tours short not due to lack of demand but due to personal preferences.
DM probably have the bigger commercial hits, but those all date back to the mid 90s and previous. DM would be a great headliner but I don't know how well they'll, I'm not really sure the 18-26yo crowd has ever really heard of them?

if a hip hop artist headlines next year, who is it? i dont think they want to risk kanye, i think Chance would probably make the most sense, but would probably need to Co-headline assuming he doesnt have another album.
Depeche Mode - Beyonce - Chance The Rapper/Tame Impala
I'm by no means an enormous Depeche Mode fan but if your question boils down to "Is Radiohead or Depeche Mode" the bigger booking?" it's Depeche Mode.
Believe the only U.S. fests they've played is Coachella 2006 and Lollapalooza 2009 (billed #1 overall). Those 3 Hollywood Bowl shows (20k venue)? Sold out instantly .

And ACL #1 overall.
Depeche Mode is bigger than Radiohead IRL.
But Radiohead would have a bigger crowd at any us fest.
Fascinating. I'm a millennial so maybe that's why, but Depeche Mode has no name recognition to me. I wasn't even a big Radiohead fan until late college, but I could still casually recognize songs off of the Bends, OK Computer, and Kid A before that.

You would probable recognize:
Enjoy The Silence Personal Jesus Policy of Truth I Feel You It's No Good Just Can't Get Enough
They sell out almost all of their N. American shows, however, the demographics in their crowd are much different than than what Coachella is currently pulling in.

I don't think they'd bring them to headline with Beyoncé and DM. They're gonna need some kind of modern/indie rock imo. I could also still see Chance and Frank preheadling at this point, so maybe not both next year. ATCQ is likely already one of their highest-billed, crossover acts.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
