LOL the Baymont Inn saga continues. Just got this email.
On 2018-01-03, Baymont Inn & Suites Palm Springs wrote We will be cancelling this reservation--there has been more than enough notice given with an opportunity to provide a credit card for your reservation. This reservation will be cancelled immediately in our system. Booking.com is not allowing us to cancel on their end; so please be informed that although the reservation is still showing valid on booking.com; this reservation will no longer be valid in our system, Thank you!~
I really love how some hotels realize too late what weekend Coachella is and scramble to gouge (this was originally a pay when you arrive/free cancellation booking, and still shows as much on Booking.com). Dicks.
I guess my deal is if you’re a guaranteed sellout then take an act’s global placement into consideration. LCD, Phoenix, The Stone Roses, and The Strokes were all risks in their own right, but all went on to headline despite some even going on to sub other fests. They are just in a position to pay literally anyone to headline this and still sell out.
AM and Tame could both deliver fantastic headlining sets, but I agree that TI will reach that goal first.

There’s more to it than just selling out though. In 2013, actual attendance was down, so even though every ticket was sold and scalpers were left holding a bunch, that also means Coachella is seeing less from their cut in their share of hotel stays, booze, merch, etc. They still did fine overall, but two weekends is a high stakes game.
Pretty sure they outright lost money the Prince year.

2013 was for sure not as well attended overall like the year before or the year after. There was more trash on the ground than people at the stone roses set. My favorite part of that weekend was having to explain who blur was to the bros by telling them its the woo hoo band.

Oh jeez. I haven't received an email yet, but I have a room booked for Thursday night of WK1. Would Booking.com give a credit or something for this nonsense?

Added insult to injury: After the secondary market tanked that year and so many people lost money selling their tickets at under face value, the 2014 presale a month later tanked as well. They kept it open for 36 hours before they shut it down while lots of tickets were still available. I remember that being the easiest year ever to buy presale because so many people got burned the year before. Of course after Outkast was announced, they still eventually sold out the general sale, and that year also ended up being the craziest secondary market ever with $1500 tix the week of, so it corrected itself.
But the 2013 presale, and every presale from 2015 on, sold out in 3-6 hours. Pretty clear the 2013 lineup had a pretty significant negative bottom-line impact, which is why I don't think we'll ever see a lineup like that again and we're now sliding more into Iheart-land.

That just seems so crazy to me.
It's cuz he was a late add so it impacted ticket sales less than it would if he was on the initial announcement, plus he probably costed alot to book on short notice as well.

I have no idea! I would contact their customer service sooner than later. Seems so sketchy of the hotel to do this though.

HUGE Lineup. If Roo gets even half of the following, could be best lineup ever!..Alison Wonderland. Black Coffee. Leon. Party Favor. Lion Babe. Blackbear. Forign Objects. Highly Suspect.
I could see an old rock act like Pearl Jam, Metallica, or FF headlining next year for 20th (or as in most cases with anniversaries, nothing will be any different). It’s also just time to bump AM and Tame Impala if we are in such desperate need for rock headliners. This year’s lineup just makes perfect sense given the course of popular music.
I don’t think GV is in desperate need of rock headliners though. When they could just go with The Weeknd (a nearly guaranteed hit for the vast majority of the crowd), why take the risk of bumping someone up?

I guess because in the end there really is no risk. It just feels like they could afford to do something as insignificant as bumping AM (like Phoenix) just for curation’s sake - which is ultimately what I’d like to see happen with Tame before we get AF’d again.

Has anyone done a reconciliation of lineup acts by day to last year's final lineup, and bonus points for trying to line up acts by stage?
I'm trying to guess if a.) the Sonora is coming back and b.) if so, if those acts are all on the poster. The lineup would get some juice if they add about 8-10 more punk/garage acts in February like they did last year, but don't want to get my hopes up if we think the lineup is already full. The tent sounds like a success, so not sure why it wouldn't come back.
I think Eminem was a last-minute addition based on the sheer fact that the 2018 headliner slate is weak.
My conspiracy theory is they had a rock band promotion headliner booked in Eminem's spot but they weren't done with their album in time and had to drop late fall (AM, Tame, VW). I heard from a pretty reliable source AM was in in the fall so wouldn't be shocked if it was them.
Also feel like GV/Founder's probably got in a huge bidding war over YYYs and The National were out after they decided to do their own fest in April. That, album delays, plus QOTSA playing the Forum in February, etc. probably at least somewhat explains why the first subs are so weak.

This is possible, I think Arctic Monkeys would make the most sense here.
I'm fine with SZA being a sub, but HAIM being a sub seems really off after their last album kinda flopped.
