With The Weeknd apparently headlining Panorama, he may be releasing a new album. If he does, this booking would be similar to how Kendrick's booking played out.
I mean. Kendrick's new album was the album of the year. So idk about that exactly

I meant just for the sheer fact that The Weeknd choice was knocked due to being late and stale, much like with Kendrick before DAMN. was announced.
I feel like everyone has made up their mind as to a.) whether this bothers them or not and b.) how much at this point.
And it continues to be click-bait talking about it as "Coachella owner." I guess "owner of second largest live event company in North America" doesn't sell.

well, its not entirely wrong. anschutz owns goldenvoice, which by extension means he owns coachella. and frankly, it should bother people, especially when one of the men responsible for curating perhaps the most famous festival in north america turns out to be against a very large portion of their consumers.

What’s funny is if you look up AEG and Live Nation on OpenSecrets their employees gave a lot of money to Dems. Anshutz is an asshole, but he didn’t start Coachella, he doesn’t run Coachella, he doesn’t even run AEG anymore and tried to sell it a few years ago. And if he did get bought out of AEG (or people boycotted AEG until in went out of business) he’d still have a shitload of oil money to spend on his garbage causes and it’d really make no difference

It appears he just donated to a number conservative groups, which if he’s a conservative would make sense. If we boycotted every company that gave to terrible causes there wouldn’t be a whole lot left.

Wake me up when they allegations come against Paul Tollett, Skip Page, etc. Anschultz curates Coachella as much as I do.
He has very minimal day to day involvement in anything Goldenvoice does. I highly doubt Perfume Genius, etc. would have signed up to play the festival this year if it truly was a big issue, and until performers start pulling out, I'm sure they understand better than I do how much of an issue this is.

perhaps my biggest issue with the entire thing is that he still has some limited connection to the actual festival, running it or not. as a gay person any time coachella and anshutz is brought up, i immediately get angry.

The problem is that if you really want to protest this, you have to protest AEG as a whole. That means no attending Coachella, Panorama, Hangout, Firefly, Buku, Electric Forest, Jazzfest, Carolina Rebellion, Stagecoach or Rock on the Range, shows at the El Rey Theatre, Bluebird Theatre, the Novo, Microsoft Theater, Playstation Theater, Showbox SoDo, Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Fonda Theatre, Gothic Theatre, Regency Ballroom, Ogden Theatre, the Shrine, 1stBANK Center, Red Rocks, AmericanAirlines Arena, AT&T Center, Barclays Center, Infinite Energy Center, KeyArena, Prudential Center, Staples Center, T-Mobile Arena, Target Center, U.S. Bank Arena, Valley View Casino Center or sports events at the O.co Coliseum, StubHub Center, Toyota Stadium and others
That's not even counting AEG's international venues, promoted tours or other sporting events.

i figured that if you spoke up about one portion of aeg's massive company, it perhaps would provide a trickle down effect of some sort. my hope is that the fucker just dies soon and a better person steps up to take his place

If you're looking to make a change, labeling him as the "Coachella owner" does work better than simply calling him the AEG CEO. But, it also makes the festival look bad for no real reason. I'm curious to see how this new Pitchfork report affects things.

(He’s not the AEG CEO, although the actual CEO is also a Republican)
Yeah, you get down a very slippery slope if you try to boycott / tear down anything supported by people who have contributed to "far right" groups. Especially if you take it one step further and do it to people who have supported people who contribute to alt-right groups (e.g. Republican CEO X supported Paul Ryan in his district and Paul Ryan gets donations from X, Y, and Z do I boycott CEO X's products).

Does anyone know any details about the Dreams project? They're playing on Friday.
They have a website with a song playing here: dreams.band/ On instagram someone commented something about an Empire of the Sun side project. It's definitely their singer on the song playing on the website, which gets me pretty pumped since I love EOTS.

it's one of the guys from EOTS and one of the guys from Silverchair. Don't think they've actually released anything as Dreams yet.

Sweet, sounds like a similar situation to DREAMCAR last year. Thanks dude.

Yep, Reddit and the Coachella forums did some detective work and found out it's a new project between Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun and former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns. They haven't officially released music yet, so this may play out similarly to the DREAMCAR situation from last year. But, they did post a teaser of a song on their new Facebook: www.facebook.com/noonedefeatsus/videos/542713349413322/. It sounds pretty sweet, so I may catch them.
I still think the lesser known Silverchair albums released during the 00's were far better than their earlier work. They were definitely underrated over here. I saw them in Austin on their final tour and it was actually a badass show.

I absolutely love neon ballroom and diorama. Silverchair is criminally underrated as a band as far as I’m concerned. They got an unfair rap forever as a teenage nirvana rip off but they grew past that so much. Also they made frogstomp when they were 15 years old. Who freaking cares who they sounded like they were kids
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
