Guessing we will get some hints in the next week or two
Also I do recall in an interview last year they mentioned Bon Iver being at one of their fests in the future....forgot the exact quote but it was something along those lines...maybe he'll be in this lineup?
Pearl Jam announced some dates. None conflict with Gov Ball. Founders... please.
Boston Calling has said they booked their biggest headliner yet this year. I could definitely see Pearl Jam doing BC and Gov Ball before the European tour

If they pull in Pearl Jam and Bon Iver as their first 2 gets I'll take back every mean thing i've said about this becoming the Music Festival for Middle Schoolers

Agreed that would be amazing but I think it is too much cost sunken into a single demographic.
Anyway, for context here is the interview quote from COS where they reference Bon Iver playing, my notes are in parenthesis:
Q: We expected to see Spoon, The xx, and Bon Iver on the lineup. Who did you try to book for the 2017 lineup that unfortunately couldn’t play?
A: Those are all examples of pragmatic reasons why a band couldn’t play. One of them has a record coming out early in the year , and they wanted to play their own hard ticket date in New York (this refers to the XX, who played Forest Hills). Another has a record coming out later in the year , so playing a big festival too early could flip the outcomes of it(this refers to Spoon, who released Hot Thoughts in November). Another is playing Europe in early June. That doesn’t mean they won’t play another festival of ours, per se (Bon Iver).

Spoon released Hot Thoughts in March.....
Also Bon Iver and Pearl Jam do not cater to the same demographic

Pearl Jam will sell out their day on their fan base alone. And just get a ton of the the general dad-rock fanbase / older demo.
Bon Iver brings in the indie-heads/pitchfork demo. It's actually a great start to selling out the fest again since you know they'll get the standard Top-40 and EDM they need for the younger demo.

I was thinking Arcade Fire (Reflektor) at first, but there's no way they're giving away a headliner in the first clue. So.... yeah no idea what that clue is.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

Are we looking at the same clue?
Maybe mine didn’t load, all the way. But mine was just a mirror image of the present.

My only thought for the first clue is that it's reminiscent of NYU's logo which makes me think Maggie Rogers, but that seems like a relatively obscure way about that.
