I'm betting Selfies will be playing opposite Pushing Through the Crowd in Groups of Ten, and Talking During Sets will conflict with Drinking Until You Puke at One PM.
Must See 2018 List: 1. Drake 2. The Cure 3. David Byrne 4. King Krule 5. Moses Sumney 6. Dua Lipa 7. Mount Kimbie 8. Perfume Genius 9. Yaeji 10. Big Thief

Some poor kid in front of me at bag check tried to sneak in a thermos of vodka. When he was told he had to chuck it he chugged the damn thing, even though his GF told him not to... The security lady said to him "honey, you're about to be white people wasted". I almost peed
Bitter Old People Who Don't Remember Being Young And Doing The Same Shit They Now Complain About would be a good sub if those are the headliners.
(I kid, I'm 33 myself).
In all seriousness, I don't mind that young kids THAT much. There's a certain excitement they have for specific bands which you can't really muster once you get past a certain age. That being said, unlike Coachella, Gov Ball doesn't take that much effort to go to so you get a lot of people just showing up to essentially have a 3 day party with some music in the background. Having lame EDM doesn't help but is what it is. Hopefully they book some good old man bands next year as well for the likes of me.

The crowd was young, but I didnt really find it as obnoxious as people are claiming. I go for the music and stick to my own crew. I also was almost always either chilling in VIP or at the front of a show. Didnt sit around in the back in the grass too much. Guessing thats where most of the shenanigans went down.

I'm normally in this camp but my God they are especially bad here (and moreso than last year). That being said I would go back in a heartbeat if they put out another great lineup

Was my first time going this year and the crowd seemed very young. I'm 23 and I felt really old. Especially on the Friday/Saturday. Was it just especially bad this year crowd wise? My friend went last year and doesn't remember the crowd being all high school kids like it was this year.
City festivals will always play young, but this is one of the downfalls of targeting one specific demo. Not including legend acts means missing out on an older audience, ultimately narrowing the age gap.

What are you talking about? Saturday had Phoenix and Wu Tang on top. Practically the entire Sunday lineup was meant for the older crowd. They didnt show up. It was the only day that did not sell out this year.

In the future I hope they can find a way to add more 21+ areas. Best Kept Secret was a nice touch. I also hope they do a better job of policing obnoxious teens. I also suggest maybe springing for VIP to make it a little more bareable on yourself if you were that bothered.
There were packs of 12 year old Friday. Pre pubescent kids. Was so weird. The second 21+ area next to the Honda stage was a God send. I thought it was vip because it was so close. Would be great if the could move the one near the entrance over somewhere you can hear the main stage
Meadows had 2 21+areas, and they were amazing. You could see the main stage from one and one of the second stages from the other. Watched a couple of shows from there

I feel like having Chance, Lorde, and Childish Gambino on the bill sold it heavily to the youth.

Yeah for sure. You could really see the difference between the Friday/Saturday crowd and the more mature Sunday crowd. I've been to a few festivals and I got to say this years gov ball was probably the youngest crowd out of all of them.

I would attribute that more to the 2-5 names being Cage, Wiz, Logic, and Phantogram. I don't know a single name besides The Orwells on the bottom 3 lines. There was some good stuff that day, but it was still spotty. Govball always has a handful of good acts sprinkled on top of some straight up crap.
Edit: and Phoenix's biggest hit came in 2009 so I wouldn't necessarily call them a throwback act. I didn't realize they were still headlining.

Wiz played at the same time as Tool. Logic played at the same time as Air, and had the biggest crowd of the day. You dont know shit.

Well that was an aggressive and uncessary way to say they all played the same day.
There were other Tool dates within striking distance, also. Some probably chose Boston Calling instead. It's not surprising that a city festival that features acts like Lorde, Logic, Chance, Wiz, Gambino, & Flume would attract a young crowd. The contrast might have even been enough to keep some away. There really wasn't that much geared to Tool fans on Sunday outside of Tool.

The "Rock" acts in the First 5 lines of the poster in 2017 were (5): Tool, Phoenix, Cage the Elephant, Beach House, and The Head and the Heart.
The "Rock" acts in the First 5 lines of the poster in 2016 were (14): The Strokes, The Killers, Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Haim, Two Door Cinema Club, Of Monsters and Men, Chvrches, Miike Snow, Father John Misty, Bloc Party, Gary Clark Jr, Matt and Kim, Lord Huron.
The conclusion to me is simple: Gov Ball, despite selling out in 2016, eliminated a ton of high profile rock acts to make room for the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Marshmello and Rae Strummand. This made it a kiddie festival where the most populated sets were the ones with the demo they targeted with the lineup. Fans of alt-rock aren't buying 3 day passes on the strength of Tool and Phoenix in 2017.
And please stop telling me to look into buying VIP. VIP for one-day of The Meadows is $300 after fees. If Founders message to telling me to pay $300 for a day of music to avoid children everywhere, then enjoy the festival becoming Made in America: NYC Edition.
Foo Fighters | Jay Z | Arcade Fire | J. Cole The xx | Queens of the Stone Age | Travis Scott | Alabama Shakes ODESZA | Joey Bada$$ | Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals Animal Collective | Prophets of Rage | Jack Garratt | Action Bronson

Last year people were complaining about obnoxious teens as well. Which is why they did things like add ID scanners and a 21+ area.
The booking has always been balanced to try and have something for everyone. With the exception of Rae Sremmurd, almost every act you mentioned played opposite an act meant for a different crowd. Marshmello played opposite Wu Tang, Wiz played opposite Tool, ect. This is not a strictly alt rock festival. It is a multi genre festival.
I understand if you cant afford VIP or are unwilling to pay it. But if being around a younger crowd bothers you that much, they are giving you a 21+ ticket option. If youd rather stay in GA to save money, you know what you are getting into. They are not going to suddenly add age requirements to the festival or book to strictly appeal to one age group or another. The fest is meant for everyone.

What would you think about QOTSA as a headliner?
Hell yes.
I think that mock is way too stacked personally. I think you'd see thee xx and/or Queens in the top 4 without a doubt.

Perfectly happy about it. If I recall, you hinted they turned down Meadows because they wanted to headline. It seems like a bit of an overbilling given their placement at other fests, but they should be headliners so fine by me.

Queens would have been way preferable to RHCP at the Meadows. After seeing Tool's smallish crowd and reading about Phoenix's relatively empty set, I feel like QOTSA would play to a very very small crowd. If I go I'll be there for sure, but I feel like they're even less popular than Phoenix unless their new album is a massive hit.
