That's the thing... I'd rather stay in a hotel to be honest if it was the same price.
Edit:. Read that wrong. Last time I booked a hotel in Manhatten it was at a hundred a night (holiday inn near Chinatown)
Honest question, why would you prefer a hotel over an airbnb? What's the benefit? Having a kitchen is reason enough alone for me to never use a hotel again if I can help it.
I don't cook much so I don't care about kitchens, especially if I'm traveling and will most likely be trying local food. Also I'm not as worried about cleaning up when I leave, or even day to day. I'm not as worried about breaking things, or even privacy concerns. We did an Airbnb for New year's and the place was a shit hole. The heat broke twice, so did the hot water. The reviews weren't bad because it was a charming Mansion, but I wouldn't have had those issues in a hotel suite. The capper was when they called us to tell us they forgot to unplug the interior cameras, which freaked me out
Also, when I traveled to Boulder I used Craig's list and got a MUCH better deal than a month long airbnb

Understood, diff strokes
I usually just go for the best deal tbh.. and unless you are staying in a room in someone's house for 30 bucks a night, I'd rather just get a motel 6 that's been newly renovated for 45
Good place to stay in NY that won't cost you an arm and a leg that's relatively safe and close to stuff: Long Island City.
Yeah Queens is good for discounts, Astoria, Sunnyside, Ridgewood... My point was that your can actually do pretty good if you figure out public transportation and stay in Queens, which most people seem to avoid like the plague. I'd avoid the Bronx, Staten island and Long island at all costs though. To damn far or nasty to be worth it
Queens FTW. Admittedly, I'm biased, seeing as I live in Astoria, but I've always enjoyed the walk over the bridge to and from the festival, there's a sneakily good night life, and there are a lot of great restaurants.
Queens - Astoria especially - is IMO the best place to stay and travel to the festival. The only bummer is there is no reasonable cab service off the island at the end of the night, because even though it's only like 1.5-2 miles the bridge can be a pretty terrible experience after a long hot day (and good luck telling a yellow cab hoping to get someone to pay $75 to take them to the east village or something to go to Astoria instead).

What is this sneakily good Astoria nightlife you speak of?
Yeah... fine. But even if he is a flake keep Travis on the backburner (I have no idea how booking works so.)
Does anyone know Rihanna was ever in play for this? Thought she would be perfect for this years fest considering the year she had without even putting out new music of her own

There's a fairly high density of bars, and several different vibes to be had depending on what you're looking for. To be sure, craft beer bars kind of rule the roost, but there are also dive bars, outdoor beer gardens, lounges like Mosaic, the more disco-y vibes of Flattopps on weekends...you won't find any good clubs, which, honestly, isn't that huge a problem for me, although I understand it might be for others. But, overall, there's plenty to do after fest close, and most of it within easy walking or Uber distance from the foot of the bridge.
Maybe because of the fact that he canceled like 3 festival performances last year haha
Or the fact that he played Gov Ball's rival festival less than 6 months ago. Or the fact that while most of inforoo and music junkies loved his intimate set, a lot of people found it boring (not me, but a large portion).

She'd be an even better fit for Meadows
Agreed. Gov Ball is an NY institution that'll sell out / do well regardless so it can get away with fringe headliners likes Travis Scott and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and rely on a good undercard.
Meadows for whatever reason (time of year, parking lot, newer, etc) had weekend passes going for pennies on the dollar last year. They need the heavy hitters (Rihanna, Bey, Jay, Kanye, Fleetwood, PJ, Radiohead) to drive sales more than Gov Ball.

Because Airbnb is bad. destroys neighborhoods, skews the already too small areas with dense apartment zoning, and unnecessarily raises rents.

I've been listening to Westside Gunn for about thirty minutes now. His making the exact same machine gun mouth noises on every song is quickly becoming my new favorite thing ever.
So there’s no chance the taped over name is David Byrne?
Sounds like people think that it was supposed to be David Byrne and the negotiations fell through and now they'll have to replace him. Wonder if Pano outbid them.
Seems like a great spot for Interpol to slide into.

damn.. well Interpol into YYYs would be really good too at least.

How bout we add Brand New into the lineup and they are being held up because they want to make sure they won't get attacked and/or associate a charity....ok I'm stretching but I'd love to see them at this fest!

The biggest laugh I've gotten out of going through this lineup so far is the sheer number of artists whose bio starts with, "...is a singer, songwriter, and producer"...and how often that translates to "I wrote this song on guitar and then added a bunch of electronic pop elements."
No disrespect - some of them are very good. It's just a trip to me how this has become, like, the de facto genre.
Definitely a bit disappointed with this lineup. Certainly not as deep as last year. Hopefully they put together one solid day worthy of the trek up to the island.
On the plus side, there are plenty of no shows here that should end up at Panorama. Focusing on the lack of crossover with Coachella.
