It seems to start with an L, but I can't see it being LCD Soundsystem or Lord Huron which have been the two guesses I have seen. Any other predictions?
I don't think the "LOR" means too much.
This lineup is lacking a bigger name current alt-rock act. So I'm going to guess that it'll end up being someone along the lines of Portugal the Man, Walk the Moon, Beck.
If we're looking at a older rocker, maybe Ryan Adams, Iggy Pop, Robert Plant, Noel Gallagher?
There's nothing wrong with the lineup, but value props of NYC festivals are just tough for me. There'd be 3 sets I'd be legitimately excited for here - Gaslight, YYYs, and the Menzingers - with a lot of stuff I've already seen and would be just cool seeing again (Jack White, Japandroids, Wolf Alice etc.).
For a full festival price ticket, expensive accommodations, expensive travel, tough to get to location, etc. it's hard to justify any travel for this. In a year where the lineup is stacked I could justify it, but going up against Primavera weekend and now having to compete against Panorama will pretty much always keep this just under the level of making sense for me (and a lot of out of town people).

yeah that undercard definitely has a major drop off. like most years with gov ball, a few intriguing acts id love to see but not good enough to get me to commit to a weekend in NYC.

NYC accommodations can be pretty inexpensive if you don't mind staying in a borough other than Manhattan.

Or Brooklyn.
Eh this isn't true. The airbnb I booked in Williamsburg for the LCD run at Brooklyn Steele was $110, and it was an entire apartment. Not the Ritz, but it was fine.
I'd be surprised to see Chvrches as a counter-headliner. They're a bit far down the bill (only other time in recent memory a third-liner co-headlined was Ryan Adams in '15), and I don't know that they'd be big enough for something like that. My thought was more that it'd be someone like N.E.R.D. in one of those slots.
Then again, I was the guy saying there's no way they'd put Gambino opposite Phoenix last year, so what the hell do I know?

Yeah, Brooklyn isn't too bad depending upon where you're located.

I see your point, but they didn't even bother putting someone against Chance last year, so who knows, maybe that name to be added later will slide in there.
Personally I think N.E.R.D screams main stage pre-headliner on the Travis Scott day, but again this is pure speculation.
TBH, if anyone needs help finding somewhere to stay in their budget, hit me up. I actually really love searching for travel deals, yes I know I'm weird.

I mean, that's not exactly cheap... That's over 300 for a whole weekend, and we don't exactly know what the apartment looks like or where in WB it is. Also, summer prices should be higher, especially on a festival weekend. I'm curious now though. I was just going to couch crash when I came back

$300 for a whole weekend when most Manhattan hotels go for that per night is an absolute steal.

That's the thing... I'd rather stay in a hotel to be honest if it was the same price.
Edit:. Read that wrong. Last time I booked a hotel in Manhatten it was at a hundred a night (holiday inn near Chinatown)
Good place to stay in NY that won't cost you an arm and a leg that's relatively safe and close to stuff: Long Island City.
Was just about to post the same thing. Plus you are right by the N/W train line which can take you to Astoria Blvd to walk over the bridge to Randall's Island (or cab it for like 25-30 bucks including toll)

Yeah Queens is good for discounts, Astoria, Sunnyside, Ridgewood... My point was that your can actually do pretty good if you figure out public transportation and stay in Queens, which most people seem to avoid like the plague. I'd avoid the Bronx, Staten island and Long island at all costs though. To damn far or nasty to be worth it

It's funny to me that so many people only consider Manhattan when staying in New York. Signs of true tourists.

Honest question, why would you prefer a hotel over an airbnb? What's the benefit? Having a kitchen is reason enough alone for me to never use a hotel again if I can help it.

Hell, there are people that move here that only consider Manhatten. Then after a year of going broke, they can't wait to try their hands at gentrification

Not OP, but one benefit of hotels over Airbnb is the rewards. Staying at a Hilton or Hyatt for a weekend usually gives you close to or enough points for at least a free night at most of their properties.
