Anyone who saw James at Dayfornight can confirm he's not all sap. There was some real jamming instrumentals going on aside from just extended versions and remixes. Don't miss him for whatever generic act he's up against.
The link Launchpad posted is pretty indicative of what people are saying. Some cool moments and also big chunks with him singing that just go nowhere. I would def check him out but I still don't get the love. I could see it being similar to The XX though, where you have to be there live to get it more.

Save for Eminem (never seen him live + Revival was so bleh so the jury's still out,) the top few lines are really solid. Yes, including Halsey and Khalid. Does James Blake close though? I see him subbing for, if the day by day leak is accurate, Gaslight. Playing against Travis would kinda suck for him

Yeah, I'm curious about this. Profile-wise, James Blake could certainly be a Honda Stage-closer, and if the live videos I've seen are any indication (I've yet to see him play), the night time is the right time for his particular brand of stuff. On the other hand, it'd be far and away the mellowest stage-closer GovBall has booked in the five years I've been going.
At Day For Night he only played like one or two songs from TCIA. It was like half new songs and half old stuff.
This is what I'm getting at with my interpretation. Periods that go nowhere and are boring mixed with some peaks. When the drummer gets going, this performance picks up. The rest does nothing for me.

Idk, sounds good to me. Every time I've went to a show where I was concerned that it would be boring and slow (Bon Iver, Sampha, The xx, even Radiohead) I came out blown away and as an even bigger fan.

His shows are very much NOT mellow. There's actual a legit concern of HIS soundbleed into other shows, not the other way around (unless it's Travis Scott).
He throws the most intense, earthshaking, pants shitting bass of anyone I've ever seen.

This is my thinking too based on what people have said on here that have seen him. You'll never get that effect from a youtube video. I'm sure the shows have more oomph to them in person so I'm gonna give him a shot most likely.

If we're going by the leaked day-by-day, doesn't it make the most sense for James to be on Friday? Of the top 12 acts on the lineup, 4 are on Sunday, 4 on Saturday, only 3 on Friday.

I guess so...but you have to think that the main stage will be YYY's -> Jack White, and James Blake won't oppose either of those. So would they put him at the 8pm slot on Big Apple or the tent?

To this point, I remember walking by his tent set at Roo 14 while Retrograde was playing, and it was the loudest, deepest bass I've ever experienced to that point, it was like I was right next to the speaker but still was a ways away.
GRiZ at Hulaween this year topped it though, I was in a bathroom that wasn't even near the main stage it was still shaking my ear drums.
Dont know how much this matters for Gov Ball sales, but the other Atlantic cities all have some great options during Gov Ball weekend. Philly has the Dead and Roots Picnic, and DC has Kendrick and TDE.
