Mr. & Mrs. GL discusses travel plans for next year.
GL: "Hey, Big Ears should release in a few weeks. Is that something you wanna do?" Mrs GL (ZERO HESITATION): "No."
I got one year out of the lady. After that, Wilco was the only thing that made her ok with this year. If we end up with The National or something similar, she will be in for that show, but I couldn't pay her to do the whole weekend again.

That's where she's at with it. We ended up spending a lot of the apart the last time she went. I think that's what sticks out in her head. I don't have the heart to tell her Le Guess Who? is Big Ears-ish in musical scope and she's about to throw down a ton of money on that one.
I'm hoping for triumphant return at some point but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

Last year, a good friend of mine and my wife's went to Big Ears and spent most of the trip away from the shows. My wife heard about that and decided that if she wouldn't have to see as many performances as I do (and would have a friend to hang out with), she'd be up for attending in 2018. We'll see how it goes!

I asked her about just going and sleeping in or wandering and it was still shot down. I accepted a long time ago that this isn't for her as we're yin and yang but meet in the middle with pop.
It's good to see you made it back from Psycho alive. Jealous doesn't even begin to cover how I feel about that.

I'm not entirely sure that I did But boy, that was a hell of a thing... I talked to some "pure metal" fans, and they were going on and on about experiencing Magma for their first time. There was definitely some spirit of Big Ears in Las Vegas this year.

Last year was the first week of October, but they teased for a few weeks before that. Jóhann Jóhannsson and The Magnetic Fields kinda sorta left tour gaps in their schedules before they were officially teased though.

Hype away. After I get back from Hopscotch, I'll be in Big Ears mode. I'm already making another wishlist in my head.
E: Should be noted that the founder of Le Guess Who? gave a few talks last year. There's always overlap and I'm sure this year is gonna be no different.

We've had "artist/composer-in-residence," how about a "artist/composer-in-memoriam?" A special tribute to Mick Karn... performances by Japan/Rain Tree Crow, David Sylvian, Dali's Car, Gary Numan, Bill Nelson, David Torn, etc.

Ben Frost, at Big Ears, was one of my biggest magical moments in recent memory. I'd welcome his return with open arms and a TON of cotton in my ears.
Wait, are you telling me that Ben Frost was louder than Sunn O)))? Sunn O))) concert I went earlier this year (the best I've seen this year so far) was the most intense thing I've ever experienced.
