They said they're gonna post their "favorite" ones. I wonder if they're going to post the ones that are closest to the actual lineup? I don't really understand the point if it's not a competition, I guess just to get people excited.
Pretty much this. I wouldn't take anything that they like on fb or mention as a favorite as being indicative of x band being there.
Just gotta remember that whole metallica fiasco from last year.. or even the die antwoord one for SB.

I'd say any lineup they share will have some act that is accurate. There's no way to tell which one(s), so it'll be best to not read much into it. If anything, they're probably using it for undercard ideas and which bands on the actual lineup people will be the most hype for.

Iggy played PBR Fest in October, not sure if he'd come back so soon. A British friend of mine in Atlanta seemed convinced that New Order were playing Atlanta last year(not necessarily at SK but somewhere in ATL) Also I think Chvrches skipped Atlanta on the last tour
hell if half that list is there I'll be pretty happy!
I love reading all the speculation on this thread as I’m a big Shaky Knees fan. Shaky to me is all about the depth of quality from top to bottom so that’s what I always hope for. I’ve been the last 4 years and am excited to see what they come up with this year. I’d be happy I bought that VIP ticket if some of the following show up that y’all have mentioned in your interesting presuppositions about the lineup:
Godspeed You Black Emperor at same time as Queens of Stone Age like in 2016 with At The Drive In and Florence and the Machine since y’all have me convinced that QOTSA is a likely headliner. GYBE is amazing live and would be a nice counterbalance for those that aren’t crazy about the possibility of Queens slotting in at the top of the fest if they are given a longer set time.
I could see Jack White or Beck being the other headliner assuming that the Fleet Foxes in Atlanta in May acknowledgement isn’t fake news. The National also haven’t toured here on their new album yet but they did headline the first day of Shaky in 2014 so not sure if that impacts their decision making in any way as far as bookings go. Maybe they play the Fox instead. Hoping Muse doesn’t snag it over one of the aforementioned but if they do then hopefully there is another set at the same time by somebody like Nine Inch Nails or Sufjan Stevens.
I’m leaving out Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Broken Social Scene and The War on Drugs as they all have been through Atlanta in the last 4 months. I’d love to be wrong about that though.
Some others hopefully: Mogwai, Deerhunter plays home state festival for first time, MGMT, Kurt and Courtney, Hammock, This Will Destroy You, Ministry, Do Make Say Think, The Men, Xylouris White, King Krule, Jenny Hval, Quicksand (if there is some crossover with Carolina Rebellion although they were in Atlanta in September)

Hoping Muse won't be there either personally. But if they do pick someone like that, counterbalancing it with another opposite act would be nice. I didn't go in 2016 because I honestly hated that lineup, but every other lineup has been amazing. Hope next year's lineup is more like this year or 2015. Fleet Foxes is pretty definite though. They wouldn't, for one, do a pretty thorough southeast tour dates but randomly skip Atlanta. And second, Robin told someone on his IG that they would be in Atlanta in May. Hopefully they'll be headlining. Hoping some of those acts you mentioned as coming through here recently would come back through. Know it probably won't happen, but I'm hoping. I'm just not super excited about QOTSA or some other possible headliners that have been mentioned. Really excited and anxious about the lineup though!

Do we have any idea when SK's social media is actually going to "like" some of these lineup guesses? Seems like today would have been a good time to start.
Manchester Orchestra and Foster The People surprise me being in the top ten.
Manchester Orchestra surprises me too but not so much FTP, honestly surprised Arctic Monkeys or Vampire Weekend aren’t on the list with new albums supposed to be out soon unless people don’t know that

Arctic Monkeys were one of the most requested artists for Boston Calling, definitely surprised, although I didn't predict them either

Is Foster The People coming out with anything new? It just feels like forever since the last album, and I haven't seen anything about them putting out new material which would explain the mentions.

they just came out with a new album this year i think. it must not have been too well received because i never really heard anyone talk about it.

"On June 13, the band announced the title and tracklisting of third album Sacred Hearts Club, that was released on July 21."
Foster the People and Manchester Orchestra are bands that I personally won’t watch but I understand that they are logistically necessary to help with crowd dispersal and to sell tickets to a more all-encompassing audience taste-wise. C.R.E.A.M. I can only really see about 30 sets or so all weekend if I maximize my efficiency so I can accept that there will be some of those on the card. So it’s cool if Manchester Orchestra’s set at 4:45 makes it where I’ve got less people standing in front of me at Guided By Voices at the same time on another stage.
I wish QOTSA was a sub-headliner and I know it’s probably crazy but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Jack White, Beck and Fleet Foxes top 3. Not looking likely though with everybody anointing QOTSA #1 in the contest. I realistically think the we headlined before in 2014 thing puts the National out although they are in Cincy the weekend before curating a fest in their hometown so definitely close by to play SK if they set a precedent and book a previous headliner again. They are consistently awesome; me and my friends have had the National vs Arcade Fire argument a million times as to whom is the better band.
Mock 30 pretend with hopes and dreams not crushed to reflect a more likely reality except the National exclusion. I’m leaving out the Man O’s and FTP’s of everyfest and including my post-rock biases:
Jack White, Beck, Fleet Foxes, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of Stone Age, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, Sufjan Stevens, Mogwai, Deerhunter plays home, Kurt V and Courtney B, Franz Ferdinand, Ministry, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Churches, Tune-Yards, Parquet Courts plays SK again (2016 last time) Guided By Voices, King Krule, Baroness, Quicksand (Rebellion crossovers) Hammock, PRIESTS, This Will Destroy You, Alvvays, Clsp Your Hands Say Yeah, Do Make Say Think, The Men, Jenny Hval, Xylouris White

I've lived in Atlanta for 15 years and have seen countless local bands but I don't know a single person who has ever seen or talked about Manchester Orchestra. Are we sure they exist? I can think of several local bands I'd rather see on the undercard

They played SK in 2015, on the main stage. They are quite good. I recommend giving COPE a listen.

tbh, as much as I'd love to see The National and Fleet Foxes, if the undercard doesn't have enough that peaks my interest enough to drop $200 on this for a fourth year, I may sit this one out. none of the speculated headliners besides Arctic Monkeys and Vampire Weekend excite me. if Tame plays? I'm there

I saw them at Virginia Highlands Summer Fest in 2009. They are indeed a real band from Atlanta.

They have the Stuffing every November. They used to rent out the Center Stage complex and have a whole day of pretty good music (Cage the Elephant, Grouplove, Kevin Devime, White Demin, etc). This year they did the Tabernacle though and only had like 2 other bands.

They expanded the original lineup once they made the Tabernacle show into "The Stuffing"...& we should be so lucky to get Brick & Mortar @ SK.

Tame headlined in 2015. I doubt they'll be there. Would love to see Vampire Weekend there. I'm not an AM fan at all though so I'm hoping they don't end up a headliner, personally. I really want to see FF, so if they headline and i'm not into the others and the undercard sucks, i'll just buy a one day ticket to see them. hoping it's not bad enough to skip altogether because i love SK. I feel like this could possibly be a weak year for my taste but hopefully i'll love it.
If any 3 of those Top 5 predictions are true though, I'm there.

Oh damn I only ever saw Tigers Jaw and Foxing. Big Jesus probably would’ve been enough for me to go.
