Tickets purchased over the weekend - first timers to Shaky Knees! We're arriving a few days before the festival - any suggestions on what to check out, recommendations for beer/food/coffee to indulge in? We'll be staying in the downtown area. Thanks!
Beer: Bars- -The Porter- Little 5 Points- my fav in the city -Brick Store Pub- Decatur - a close second to Brick. If you go to the Brick Pop into Leons a few doors down. They also have good stuff on tap usually not as rare as the brick or porter -New Realm- This is a brewery started by Mike Steele (famous for his time at Stone). The IPAs are solid and well balanced. This is on the Beltline and has a huge rooftop deck. It opened two weeks ago and looks like once warmer weather hits it will be amazing. -Cypress Street Pint and Plate- Good beers solid food in midtown -Book House Pub- On ponce not too far from the venue. Good beers good food (chorizo burger..... its awesome) Can get crowded fast -Georgia Beer Garden- I always call this part of town Edgewood.... I have no clue what it is but I guess its between downtown and midtown kind of. Every beer they have is a ... Georgia beer So it could be a fun experience for an out of towner. The venue is big too and owners seem cool
Breweries or Beers to Try- -Creature Comforts- From athens but lots of distribution. Tropicalia is a pretty great juicy ipa. -Orpheus- Standards in most bars are solid lots of fun stuff at the brewery in midtown that is attached to Piedmont park. Fun sours and saisons and some BIG stouts -Monday Night- Two locations one midtown one west midtown (garage). both fun hang outs. Solid beers but they seem to be upping their game with their new Sours and Aged beers made at the garage. -3 Taverns- Underrated in my opinion. Night on Ponce IPA is good, Prince of Pilsner is a hoppy pilsner i like a lot, Rapturous is a decent sour raspberry beer. Located in Decatur nice venue -Scofflaw- IPAs Solid ones I like the Westside IPA everyone else seems to love their Basement IPA more

There are a lot more but that is a start.
Georgia Beer Garden is in the Old Fourth Ward. Everyone just calls that strip Edgewood though.
If you haven't been to New Realm yet fair warning that the crowds are bonkers. We had to wait to get in there on Saturday. And I went to get a beer at like 9 on a Thursday and it was standing room only. I'm guessing it won't be very accessible once the weather warms up so go now if you want to check it out!
And I keep saying it so apologies for being redundant but Torched Hop has fantastic beers--both what they brew and their guest brewery selection.
I made good friends with a drug dealer there once. He told me all about doing coke with George Clinton on his bus.
list of things to check out
-GA Aquarium -Little 5 Points -College Football Hall (if there's time)
I think we both know the decision-maker in our group isn't gonna go out of her way to see the College Football Hall of Fame (and that's perfectly fine with me).

Yeah as the weather turns it's going to be crazy. We had some good luck at new realm last Friday. Got their at 7pm put our name down for two and went upstairs for beers. Hung out at the bar upstairs for 30 minutes drinking then got the call our table was ready. I should go back to torched hop. I went when they opened and had a bad experience and wrote it off.

Yea you should definitely try it again! I hear you on the rocky start but I think they've really hit their stride now. A few of their beers are really fantastic. The Cukes & Cream, Golden Chaild, Eight O'Clock, and Holy Citramony are some of my favorites. The food is fine, not great, so I would focus mainly on the beer.
I was feeling it at first, then I got bored, then I got kind of annoyed at the end. Not thrilled with the execution here. Also interesting that the beat is almost identical to the beat at the start of Respect Commander.
So far Respect Commander is definitely my favorite of the 3, but I'm not in love with any of them.

So who is definitely going to his? I'm leaning heavily towards this and Boston Calling for my summer festival plans (even though I'll be repeating some of the same acts).
I've been wanting to try this festival out for a while so looking into plane tickets and hotels now. Will there be a good chunk of Inforoo going?

Oh, I just want to know so I can plan ahead for who I have to avoid.
I prioritized going to Built to Spill and Afghan Whigs over this but will still probably be going. Can’t let my streak stop when it’s a lineup this great.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Looks like I will be around for Friday & Saturday.
Been to 3 Roo's, the one time I went to SK (2015) was the festival I met/hung-out with the most inforoo people.

Just got the go-ahead from my new job to get a day off for this. I'll be there.
That Friday is my 30th birthday. I really hope L.A. Witch, Charly Bliss, Bully, Parquet Courts, Japandroids, Courtney Barnett, David Byrne, and The National all play. Then afterwards we all hang out and become best friends and have fun nicknames and inside jokes and stuff.
Or just David Byrne playing that day. Either of those scenarios are fine.

The National is for sure closing it down on Sunday (they have other shows scheduled for Friday & Saturday).
No reason to not party like it's your 21st though.

Yea I knew that about The National but included them anyway because a man can dream. And I'm for sure going to enjoy myself but there's a plenty good reason to not do it like my 21st. And that reason is if I did that I would die.
