When dilemmas like that trouble me, I go with the one that sounds cool or tough, rather than the more whimsical one. I kind of like Fleet Foxes but if you go to see a band with a name like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club you can automatically claim badass status, especially among people who don't know what you're talking about. Not a huge BRMC fan but the name is the tie breaker.
I also lean towards bands with "black" in the name - Black Keys, Black Lips, Black Angels, Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Black Mountain, Lady Smith Black Mambazo, etc. Double tie-breakers for BMRC.
EDIT: I know that was a mock, but why not share my flawed logic.
Going to switch around stuff so Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is conflicting with the Black Angels.

Yeah. At least Delicious Meatball Sub and @jonesjupiter mentioned them right after the lineup came out. I'm right there with you. I had never heard them, and they're climbing the list of bands to see rapidly.
Agree and someone also mentioned Marlon Williams and he is quite the talent as well.
I've done two quick passes through the lineup and my 'definitely not going to see list' might be my shortest ever.
Anyone seen Andrew W.K. live? I’m so excited for his set
I saw him at the Anthem soft opening in DC. I didn't know who would be playing, but got a free ticket. I wasn't familiar with his stuff going in, but it was a really fun set. Looking forward to it at Shaky.
I stayed at the Marriott Marquis last year after staying with friends the previous 2 years. Not the cheapest option (also not the most expensive), but pretty good in terms of being well-reviewed, clean, safe, central location, etc. Short walk from the Marta station. Pretty reasonable walk to Central Park of <1 mile. I will probably stay there again this year.

Atlanta has a lot of hotels. Sadly we lack a lot of budget options in the city.
The Marriott Marquis is nice and safe. As Magicdance81 pointed out you are very close to marta. You can actually walk through the over street tunnels into they hyatt and then into peachtree center where marta is and never walk outside on the streets to reach it.
You could try the Marriott Marquis, Hyatt Regency, Hilton, Sheraton, and Westin all in that area and see who has the "cheapest" price. All would be very nice hotels in walking distance to marta.
Another option you may look at in town is the Residence inn by Marriott Atlanta (corner of 11th and West Peachtree) It puts you one block from the Midtown Marta station and you have the very local friendl Eleventh street pub at the bottom of the hotel that stays open very late in case you need a couple beers after the shows. I don't think any of these will be "cheap" but you can try to find the best deal out of them.
Tickets purchased over the weekend - first timers to Shaky Knees! We're arriving a few days before the festival - any suggestions on what to check out, recommendations for beer/food/coffee to indulge in? We'll be staying in the downtown area. Thanks!

It's not downtown, but check out Little 5 Points if you have time. They have a couple great record stores, restaurants, and thrift shops.
Looks like that could be a possibility. They don't have an Atlanta date for their farewell tour, and their first show is May 10th. But I'm not getting my hopes up. A Slayer addition seems too good to be true.

I'm wondering if there's a second North America leg to this tour, because it basically skips over Boston and NYC for a casino in eastern Connecticut and an amphitheater in Jersey like 40 miles south of NYC.

yeah a F1 track outside of austin seems like a weird place for the last ever Slayer US show

I made good friends with a drug dealer there once. He told me all about doing coke with George Clinton on his bus.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'm sure every regular in this thread is sick of me posting this but here's my recommendation map for Atlanta. You can save it as a layer in Google Maps and when you're in the city it'll show you what is nearby. All the entries should be annotated and I'm going to update it this weekend with some more of my favorite spots.
