I think Eminem might be the worst headliner they could've booked.
THUNDER!
The thing is, Imagine Dragons, or Twenty One Pilots, or The Chainsmokers are all small enough that there'd probably be at least some counter-programing. Em will likely have none. Also the fans coming just to see Eminem in 2017 are worse than the people seeing any of those artists. Which is saying a lot...

EDIT: Also Em probably means no Kendrick
The Chainsmokers crowd is significantly worse than an Em crowd.
OK, I'll concede that we're not getting an Oasis reunion on the festival circuit in 2018. The fact that Liam hasn't rescheduled his cancelled Boston House of Blues date from a month ago, when most rescheduled dates are announced within a week, suggested that he might have some other commitments making him unable to reschedule the show. But I took a look at both his and Noel's tour dates, and there doesn't seem to be a corresponding large chunk of open time on both of their calendars for an Oasis reunion. Plus, Noel is playing a date that weekend in the UK, anyway. I can see pond hopping with one band, but not switching off bands. If there's ever an Oasis reunion, it will be their priority for the X-number of months that it runs.
(Boston Calling has grown so big that most of the rock and roll bands I'd most want to see there, like Wilco and MMJ, would now be second line at best. But I wouldn't be disappointed with The Strokes, System Of A Down, Pearl Jam, or any number of guitar bands in a headlining spot.)
Let's just bring Prince and David Bowie back from the dead and we've got two perfect headliners right there.

Michael Eavis said Glastonbury would do a festival in 2018 if a certain unnamed band ever got back together. Assuming that was Oasis, a 2018 Glasto would’ve been announced already.
So where's all the Eminem rumors coming from? He announce a tour with no Boston stop? Another festival?
I hope something good is opposite him if he does show. Like how Sigur Ros was against Chance this year.
Phi confirmed him for a lot of fests - Coach, Roo, Govball, and maybe Lolla, I don't remember.
I believe FF too
Eminem would suck but hopefully there would be something unique on that blue stage again at the same time, or maybe that night will have a good show at the Sinclair or Great Scott

Fucked up and trying to have a good time > fucked up and angry
If Phi is right about Em at Govs Ball, would it be odd both fests having the same #1? I'd think Calling could try and draw from NYC people having a different enough lineup

They both had Tool and Chance last year, and before that they weren't really on the same level for headliners.

Who's Phi? just really curious as i couldnt find anything out about him by searching google.
He's an agent who mostly works with aspiring adult film actors (mostly weird fetish stuff, so no one you'd recognize unless you're into that), but he also has a stake in US music festivals and runs a private forum dedicated to them, so a lot of stuff gets leaked there. He goes by Phyre Fest on these boards and pops in from time to time, so if you see him you can try PMing him for an invite to his forums. He's kinda stingy with invites but it can't hurt to ask. Cheers!

Cool, thanks! Heres hoping he isn't right about eminem though, was really hoping for kendrick.
What about Fleet Foxes in the XX/Bon Iver sub spot for this?
I think robin said they were coming to Boston/the northeast in the spring, which would fit here.
It would be a MOTHER FUCKING SHAME if they played Blue Hills. Like a live music atrocity. Fuck Southie.
Could definitely see them playing, but it’d also be a shame if Boston doesn’t get a proper headlining show from them on this run. They should really just do a couple nights at the Orpheum
The fact that they haven’t announced it yet makes me think there’s a good shot for them at BC. If they close the blue stage against Em all will be (mostly) forgiven

Regardless of neighborhood, Blue Hills Pavilion is still a lousy venue in an area where you can only really get there by car.
The Silver Line (a bus on a dedicated road, not in general traffic) goes from South Station to the seaport district. Nearest stop is one block from the Paviliion.
