Oasis was never as big in the U.S. as in Europe. Boston Calling is as likely to get them, or The Smiths, as any festival smaller than Bonnaroo, Lolla, or Coachella. While Boston Calling may not have as many acts as Gov Ball, last year they showed their willingness to offer a top line on par with the rest of the 2nd tier festivals.
I can never take you seriously ever again after this comment.
The Smiths will never, ever, ever, ever, ever play Boston Calling. I am literally laughing out loud over here. Talking Heads reunion 2019, amirite?
If Boston Calling is now booking the same headliners that every festival smaller than the big three is booking, why does that take them out of the running for any acts which is playing the *second tier* festivals. Of course, there are always going to be acts which only do a couple of U.S. festivals every year and Boston Calling isn't booking them. But if some act is top lining at 10-15 U.S. festivals, it's very likely that Boston Calling will be one of them.
As for the popularity of Oasis and The Smiths in the U.S., go to setlist.fm and check out their last few U.S. tours. They weren't playing the sort of venues which Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran sell out today, you know?

I mean the idea that you think a Smiths reunion is a possibility in the first place is pretty laughable.
Newsflash, The Smiths were basically a theater/amphitheater band when they toured the U.S. during their original run.
Yes, if some band reunites and only wants to do a couple of U.S. festivals, they're playing the big three, not Boston Calling. But if an act decides that they're going to do a dozen plus U.S. festivals, Boston Calling is as likely as any to get them.
The Smiths would be one the biggest festival bookings of the decade if they reunited. You have the worst logic I've ever seen.
And if they decide to cash in on their drawing capability by doing over a dozen U.S. festivals, why wouldn't Boston Calling be one of them?

But also, do you not know how reunions work?
In his defense, I do remember hearing Johnny Marr saying that he and Morrissey were in contact for a couple weeks about a reunion some years ago. No reason to think it’d happen in the same year as an Oasis reunion and that they would both come to the US their first year back instead of headlining massive Euro stadiums and festivals, but a Smiths reunion is not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

I would rank it as the 2nd most unrealistic reunion after Talking Heads. You're better off hoping for Led Zeppelin.
Also, on a personal level, I can never get past what a piece of shit Morrissey is and I'd be happy if he disappeared. But that's just my bad opinion for the day
Yeah sure.. Out of all the festivals they can choose from to do a reunion performance or even tour, they sure are going to choose Boston Calling over Coachella, Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza..
ANY band playing multiple festivals smaller than Bonnaroo, Lollapallooza, and Coachella is in the mix for Boston Calling. Eminem is doing Coachella, but he's also doing smaller festivals, too.
Why was the Pearl Jam speculation here treated with the utmost credibility, while Oasis is out of the question? Pearl Jam is a much bigger U.S. draw than Oasis.
On their last tour in 1983 the Talking Heads only played venues like the Greek Theatre and college gyms so if they ever reunited they'd probably be a subheadliner, tops.
Dang it, beat me to the Talking Heads joke by 8 minutes. I'll sit back and continue to contribute nothing to this thread.

Morrissey has at least entertained the idea of a reunion and was interested at one point whereas Plant and Byrne have shown zero interest.

Quack, how many times do I have to say it? A reunion which hits two or three U.S. festivals only isn't playing Boston Calling. A reunion which plays 10+ U.S. festivals is likely playing Boston Calling. If you're going for the cash grab, why wouldn't you play the only festival in one of the top dozen markets in the U.S.?

Idk they did Celebration Day. Just looked up the date and it was 2007, wow does not feel that long ago.

Technically I beat juggs to the joke on the last page, but I'm not boastful, he can have the glory

Now well then, give me an example of a band that has played that much festivals and is a headliner that reunited after a long time..
Why Pearl Jam had more credibility? Because we all knew they'd go back touring this year since their announcement for the South American Lolla's. About the Gallagher's, for a starter.. They each brought out a new album in 2017? Why would they wanna do a reunion(-tour) if they're both working on their solo career jesus..
A Smiths reunion show is 100x the draw of another stale Pearl Jam show that everyone has seen or has had the chance to see 10 times in the last couple years.
Why was the Pearl Jam speculation here treated with the utmost credibility, while Oasis is out of the question? Pearl Jam is a much bigger U.S. draw than Oasis.

Haven't been keeping up with anything festival related. Are there any confirmations or strong rumors for the lineup? I know early birds and lineup comes out tomorrow

Eminem, QOTSA, Khalid all strongly rumored. Still in the dark about the other headliners, but they're probably gonna be The Smiths and Oasis.
“Boston's biggest music festival retrurns to Harvard Athletic Complex from May 25th-27th. This year's headliners include Eminem, The Killers, Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age, The National, Paramore, Tyler, The Creator and Khalid plus so many more.”
