I liked Stizz's set last year and wouldn't mind seeing him again, but I'm so excited about The Decemberists, after having heard their new album. It's their best since The Hazards Of Love, IMHO. I haven't seen them since they played BC in 2014, so I'm overdue.

Flying to Boston tomorrow. I've been listening all day to the lineup, and it is crazy deep top to bottom. I'm sorry for being a broken record because I've definitely said this 3 or 4 times I feel like, but people can say what they want about it not being the most original lineup, but all of these acts have crazy deep catalogues. There's conflicts I'm bummed about, but there's almost no picking wrong because I think the acts will all be that strong. Here's to a dope ass Festival this weekend all!
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

Yea, at the end of the day if I get a handful of great sets at a festival I'm happy. I missed Fleet Foxes return last year and haven't seen St. Vincent in forever. Jack White is always a favorite of mine and there's enough other acts that I'm interested in seeing and trying out. I'm excited.
David Byrne may not be playing BC this year, but the weather forecast is "same as it ever was." The specifics differ a bit depending upon which TV station site you check, but the general consensus seems to be unseasonably-hot-for-May weather on Friday and Saturday, giving way to rain showers on Saturday and/or Sunday, with highs in the 50's on Sunday.
It astounds me that there hasn't been a year with consistently good weather for Boston Calling in five years. It's May. Three straight rainless days with highs between 60-80 happen all of the time in May. But not during Boston Calling, apparently.

Having some arbitrary number of males and females on a lineup is silly. Touring, new albums being released, number of female acts in general all go into booking a lineup.
That lady has written awful articles on Boston Calling before, like first asking for more women in 2015, then being happy about that in 2016 but still complaining how there isn't enough "world music" on the lineup. Fuck her.

Festival diversity critics get too hung up on who's headlining. Boston Calling has gone out of its way to ensure that people of color, women, and LGBT performers are in their lineups.
I think that the bulk of the article isnt good, but I do wonder who Boston Calling is for. This year and last year they put out amazing lineups that are top level of the festival season, and the capacity for the festival is pretty small. yet I could pick up a pass right now for around 150. what gives?

1) It's Memorial Day weekend 2) Almost all colleges in Boston have graduated and left for the summer.

Boom.
Sasquatch has had a better resale market and its at the gorge which is much harder to get to, and a "worse" lineup for sales. NYC's colleges have left, and next weekend has multiple days sold out at Gov Ball. I dont see why this festival cant succeed in spite of those two challenges

Sasquatch is a camping festival.
The New York metro area has 4x as many people as the Boston one.

Hmmm. Not sure I would definitely trust Ebay for tickets and I just tried a search and am not seeing too many 3-days for $150. There's a parking pass for $150 lol. I do see one auction that has two passes at $350 which doesn't seem like a bad deal.
Either way, It doesn't really matter. I don't think I ever thought of looking to Ebay for concerts.

Couple of best offers too, but Ill tell you buying concert tickets on eBay is a real life-hack for a concert goer. Ive gotten some amazing deals on concert tickets, albeit usually either the day before or day of the event, on eBay. I bought Beyonce floor tickets for 40 bucks a ticket during the Lemonade tour on there

Good to know. I don't typically go to stubhub or other secondary markets for tickets for the most part but do like that Stubhub has a guarantee type of thing in case you get screwed over.

Oh shit this is tomorrow! My trip have been flying by and I've been camping for about a week now. Pretty damn exhausted. I'm driving into Boston pretty early tomorrow to spend most of the day there so we can explore. Probably driving over to Cambridge around 3 or so. Noooooo clue what to do for parking or whatever, pretty much just winging it. Looking forward to meeting some of folks tomorrow for my only day of BC!
One day to go and the forecast isn't looking Seven Signs of the Apocalypse dire, but it could be a lot better for a late May music festival. At least, it will be chilly enough on Sunday to get away with wearing hoodie, jeans, and boots.

I've talked to a couple of people who thought about going, but opted to head out of town for the weekend. If you care enough about live music to be on this board, you're likely to prioritize your local big music festival over almost anything else. But not everyone who goes to a festival, especially one in or very near a large city, automatically thinks that it's the single best option for a long holiday weekend.

Here's the single best piece of advice that I can give to anyone who's going multiple days:
On your first day of the fest -- whether that's Friday or Saturday -- put your wristband on very loosely before you take a hot shower. I discovered last year that the wristband material they began using last year shrinks like crazy. If you put the wristband on right before you leave for the day, and then shower the next morning, you may find that it's uncomfortably tight. It felt like it was cutting off my circulation by Sunday, after shrinkage.
