I visited Union Market the other day and given that the festival is happening behind the warehouse dock, it doesn't appear like the capacity is all that big. But the festival seems to be marketing it more to the "hip DC crowd" rather than actual music people. If the weather is nice, I could see a bunch of people buying tickets on the same day.
if anybody hears of cheap tix/giveaways for ATG in the next week I'd be intrigued.
also, 13 days out from a very crowded fall slate at Anthem and no pics/promotional vids/anything. taking construction up the last minute it seems...
Not sure if any of you guys are 930 Club Friends with Benefits, but there was an email that went out that invited the Friends with Benefits program people to a couple of sneak peek shows a couple of days before it opens, i think the dates were October 8th and 10th. Thats when you should expect pictures and that stuff

I actually walked through the Anthem the other day, they're way behind schedule. They're supposed to be doing a "soft" opening on 10/8 and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make it.

Yeah I had heard that press walk-throughs were requiring hard-hats/sturdy shoes which made it seem like there was still heavy construction being done.

Yikes. I hope it'll be done in time for the Foos' shows. Here are some decent pics I found on Instagram from a guy who is apparently working on the place:

I would think they'll be done in time for Foo Fighters, but to my untrained eye it seemed like they still had a lot to do to get the stage set up in place. I think there will be some features not working, but whether tall be noticeable to the public I don't know. Heard the fire marshal was not happy with them at this point either.
You can see on those pictures there's LED lighting on the fronts of the box seats, that all got covered with cut metal, and they're doing the same on the wood panels on either side of the stage. I guess it's kinda cool, but overall it felt like the inside of a luxury condo building or something.
The lobby is like a 6 story atrium with a glass bottom pool on the roof.
Edit: the rest of that guy's Instagram is hilarious

I was comped VIP as well, so ended up going tonight. Showed up at 8:15 and unfortunately missed Cashmere Cat, but at least got to see Vince Staples' full set. I had seen him once before at Boston Calling 2016 and he demonstrated growth as an artist/performer, with plenty of variation in each of his tracks as well as a cool stage production (bright orange LED screen, no spotlight directly on him). The headliner Young Thug on the other hand, was late by one hour and four minutes (ONE HOUR AND FOUR MINUTES). His actual set was fun for the first third or so (the crowd enthusiasm helped a lot), but got super monotonous for the remainder of what I assume was a 45 minute set. I left at midnight while Pick up the Phone was playing: don't think I missed anything else worthy.
I liked this year's Union Market location much better than last year at the Navy Yard, though obviously it helped that the weather was fucking awesome, with no heavy rain and mud whatsoever. Having the stage between two loading docks was super cool, especially since the surrounding warehouses were used as viewing platforms as well as space for regular food vendors and VIP bathrooms.
That said, I cannot imagine ever paying money for this going forward unless they get a super fucking awesome headliner. And given the current live music scene, that's not likely to happen.

I only went to Sunday due to prior obligations the previous two days, but I had to leave early.
I liked the concept and location. It was cool that the stage was sandwiched between two warehouses and that there were two viewing platforms on each side. The string lights above were a neat feature as well.
VIP was cool. You get free food, free merch, nice bathrooms, and a viewing area in front of the stage.
Then again, I agree with you. I don’t think I’d go back again unless the headliner(s) is someone I really like. I love the concept, but I don’t think you can really expand it to increase the capacity.
Man, if they got any one of these acts, I’d be there: Father John Misty, Gary Clark Jr., Glass Animals, Mac Demarco, Portugal the. Man, The Revivalists, Spoon, and Vance Joy. But given the D.C. concert market, that’s unlikely.

To anybody that has gone to the soft openings of The Anthem, how was it?
Absolutely gorgeous venue! It looks and sounds incredible, the views from the balconies are pretty stellar and are fan friendly(entrances to balconies are at the rear/ends to not block sight lines of stationary Patrons). Lobby is amazing you can see the artists rooftop pool from the inside 3rd floor lobby area(coolest feature IMO). The stage is huge, and if they treat every show like this there was no barricade stage front! Meaning we were hugging the stage watching the band which was pretty cool. The only real problem I see them having is line management. THERE IS ONLY ONE ENTRANCE/NOT GOOD! Got in line around 7:15-20 didn't get in until a little after 8. If it wasn't for that first free beer. Probably would've bailed. It was about half complicity and it took almost and hour to get in. Thursday's Foo show is gonna be wild!
