The Anthem is an amazing venue, most definitely the best venue of its size I have ever been to. Foos were great last night, and as a whole I'd recommend getting down to that place as soon as you can to see a show

It'll be interesting to see differences in its various capacities/seating orientations. I have seats in the boxes for Bon Iver, really like that they made them theatre-like boxes rather than sections of a wraparound.

The Anthem is awesome and I've only been to one show there. The Foo Fighters were awesome as always. I can't wait to be back there next week for LCD Soundsystem and in the near future. It's probably my favorite venue I've been to. I can't wait to see who is announced in the future.

Going to LCD SS as well on Wednesday. I'm honestly getting more excited about the venue than seeing the band again. Hopefully more cities around the country will get these type of large scale open floor venues (like Europe has had forever).

Yeah, it'll be interesting. I got an idea of it last night. The lights and sound system are hung from moving motors, which are attached to steel beams. I assume the motors can then move forward and backward on the beams based on the capacity. It looked like the sound system could move to about the 2nd box on both sides.

I wonder what will occur if a show undersells and the venue decides to move the stage forward so that the place does not feel half empty. What will happen with people who bought box seats closest to the stage?

I kind of got the impression las night that the first boxes were some sort of VIP/guest of the artist area. In that case, they could shift people around pretty easily, especially since it's presumably an undersold show.

Yeah the first boxes are for the owner of IMP and the owner of the Wharf complex, but I don't think the stage will move forward that much.
So what shows will I be seeing some of you at, I work there but have tickets to LCD Soundsystem Tuesday and QOTSA on Friday. It’s already been a pretty awesome week foos on Thursday and Kaleo tore it up last night. The lineup they Pulled together is incredible.

I have tickets for LCD on Wednesday, Bon Iver and The National in December, and Lorde in April. There’s a good chance I’ll be at BØRNS too. You work there? That’s pretty cool. You gotta tell us how it is. I’m a college student and I’m thinking about applying there or at the 9:30 in the next year or so. Man, I hope they can pull Arctic Monkeys, Beck, FJM, and Mumford & Sons in the near future.

Nice, I started working for 930 about 2 months ago and it’s the coolest gig. We do the club, Anthem, Lincoln, U Street, and MPP so we are pretty much always busy. The Anthem is incredible there really is no bad spot in the place, the alcohol lines are a bit long but there’s 2 bars on every level. BRING EAR PLUGS! The acoustics are bad ass but will have your ears ringing for days. It’s been a great week already and seeing people’s reaction to the Anthem is been great as well. They are saying they are expecting to book about or around 50 shows a year which probably means shows will get booked up until about April then shift over to Merriweather for summer season. Really hoping for AM and Beck as well

I extremely rarely wear ear plugs, but I would highly recommend anyone going to this venue to wear them. Its really loud in there. Maybe that was just for the Foos more than anything else, but my ears were ringing for over 36 hours after
Also have tickets for Bon Iver and The National. Got the Super Fan seats or whatever they are called for The National show. Thanks for the warning about the ear plugs. We got like 4th row for Bon Iver so it seems like they will be a necessity.

Anthem itself was as advertised, production value everything you'd expect from IMP. They're definitely still working out some logistics though...cashless bar/coat check is one of those things that sounds good in principle, in practice not so much...

Im a fan of cashless, but they have to add some Apple Pay receptors in there so you can have Phone payments

I don’t share everyone’s glowing praise for Anthem. The sound is great, which is obviously the most important things, but every other detail seems to need work. There’s just too many logistical problems at this point. Having the whole place be GA is cool in principle but basically everyone just stands on the floor and it gets way too packed. Plus the way they run the bars is stupid and takes way longer than it needs to. I’ve heard the venue timed bar lines at over an hour at points. I tried to buy a water and I was given a cup and told to fill it up at the drinking fountain, which is fine, water is water, but that’s really their long term plan? Lines getting in were also a mess.
Most of this stuff can be fixed, but I can’t believe it hasn’t yet.

They had maybe three card machines at the bar I went to, and each transaction was taking 10-15 seconds to process which was killing the flow. Bartender said the whole system actually crashed opening night which sounds delightful. Again, just the risks you run with cashless. Far more likely to experience random errors, and no cash fallback just compounds problems exponentially. Similar issue with coat-check, where your claim number was supposed to be texted to you but no service + spotty wi-fi meant a lot of people didn't get theirs, leading to a comical coat pick-up process that relied on "What does your coat look like?"
I'm willing to give them a little bit of a break, since it's been open for all of six days. Have to reiterate that the music itself was booming. With the packed slate hope they make those logistical adjustments quickly though.

Yeah, but just the division of labor at the bar also doesn’t work. At a typical arena show, you’ll have one person ringing people up and then runners filling the drink orders. Even with the spotty system, if you were paying for your drinks while someone else was collecting your order it’d move a lot quicker.
I agree it’ll probably all get better eventually, but I’m honestly not totally looking forward to another sold out show Friday.

Did you walk to the second level at all, the balcony has a great view

Gonna echo how awesome the acoustics were at the Anthem. Yes, you definitely need earplugs, but you should frankly bring them anyway to every show you attend.
Had no problem with the coat check after the show. One big criticism though: the concrete (?) floor is painful AF to stand on for long periods of time.

Tempted AF to get a ticket for Tegan and Sara in November, but not sure what the vibe of an all-seated show will be like at the Anthem. Plus tickets are pretty pricey.
