My only gripe, and something thats happening more and more at Fests in general and I dont really understand why, is that the sets were relatively short and they had the main stage wide open for four and a half hours before starting on there at 4:40. I get that Greta was supposed to be there and fill an hour or so there, but I dont get why they only gave The XX fifty minutes when there was so much open time. They had plenty of time to extend The Killers, The XX, Odesza, Fleet Foxes, and Byrne by 15 minutes each and been good on time and conflicts.
I'm not sure how it works. Do artists get paid more for playing 75 minutes then for 50 minutes? I'm sure most acts would prefer to play longer and do a more complete set but I don't know how payment works for that.

Yes they get paid more to do a complete set but I’ve noticed this leaking into non-festival shows as well. Tyler’s “headlining” show at my local venue was barely an hour.
One of the last straws leading to Gov Ball joining LiveNation.
Isn't that like selling your soul to the Devil to avoid hell?
More like making a boat load of cash to continue doing what you were doing, rather than have your business torpedoed by a much larger company until you were put under and left with nothing.
I don’t know the specifics of their contract but at some point in time (if not already) Founders can buy back what they sold. It’s happened with other festivals. If Pano isn’t around next year maybe we could see a break from LN.

I wonder how much the cost difference is. Like are The Killers really able to demand significantly more for an 2:00 set than a 1:30 set? Same goes with The XX doing :50 compared to 1:15-1:20

I understand that this industry is a business, and profit is obviously something that is important to a business, but the one thing that does bother me about this whole AEG vs Live Nation/Founders thing that bothers me is how people are rooting for these businesses to make a ton of money and the idea being that a high profit is something to be happy about. Frankly, I really dont give a shit if AEG or Live Nation makes money. In fact, if AEG cut costs in order to make money by having shorter sets then I would be actively rooting for them to make less money.
If these companies go all out for the profit in these fests, its going to be headliners of Post Malone- Cardi B- Greta Van Fleet, with Juice World as an opener, and we are all going to be fucked regardless of which company you root for

By "we" I assume you mean the minority message board commenters? AEG/Live Nation are for profit ventures and if they can make a killing and keep their brand alive by having festivals headlined by Post Malone and Cardi B, they'll definitely do it. Will suck for us but my guess is a lot of us are aging out of the demo festivals target.
Kudos to gov ball for the super timely and exclusive killers booking of 2016. Shame on pano for the sloppy seconds.
Fun Fact: The Killers played Gov Ball in 2016 as a replacement for Mumford; who were set to headline until AEG attempted to sabotage Gov Ball; by offering Mumford a package deal to headline both Firefly + Panorama that year and cancel their Gov Ball booking. But then Panorama lost Corona Park and had to move to Randalls in July, so Mumford did Firefly that year and Hangout Fest the following year instead. One of the last straws leading to Gov Ball joining LiveNation.
Are you hinting that Founders is looking at Mumford and Sons for 2019 Gov Ball?

I see it as a trade off. The people who book these things arent exactly fans of acts like Marshmello or Post Malone. But that's what the kids who make up the majority of these events are listening to. So you book Marshmello or Post, then you don't have to worry about the profit part; and can also book great but underappreciated stuff like Air or Avalanches. And maybe the kids who were coming for that vapid stuff can hear some great music for the first time; get those acts more exposure and lead to similar bookings. Plus, if you weren't into Post Malone or Marshmello, you didn't have to go see them. Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Wu Tang were playing at the same time.
Panorama the last two years leaned too into the great but underappreciated; which is awesome given my taste and the taste of most people here. But we see how that turned out, and now they might not have a festival at all. Plus this year you already saw them start heading in a more conventional direction by booking Migos, Cardi, ect.

Here's my ranking of what I saw this weekend. A few really amazing sets in there.
1. The Killers 2. David Byrne 3. St. Vincent 4. Janet Jackson 5. Japanese Breakfast 6. ODESZA 7. The xx 8. SZA 9. Lo Moon 10. Shannon and the Clams 11. Fleet Foxes 12. Mount Kimbie 13. Pvris 14. Chicano Batman 15. Jay Som 16. Downtown Boys
I had a decent time yesterday but the whole thing felt like a budget version of previous years. No more AC'd bathrooms, less overall space. Was also frustrating that the 21+ area wouldn't give you a straight pour of liquor. I like my larceny bourbon neat or on the rocks, not part of a cocktail.
I really feel like The Killers mostly headline festivals because they're replacing another act that couldn't headline it
They def are. Not really a knock on them though. They are a good utility. Always ready to go and they put on a good high energy show. Worth seeing if you havent, or if you aren't burnt out on it.

I think they're still a desirable headliner in most promoters minds and the price tag likely isn't as high as other acts. A few more albums and they'll have an undeniable set of hits.
The Killers shouldn’t be playing any set longer than 25 minutes.
On a better note...how bout that Moodymann set?!
Since you seem to be the only one who made it to The Point thus far in this thread, how was it?
I was there on Sat to eat some Big Mozz and wait for my friend to use the bathroom. They elevated the dance floor onto a platform this year, made it a bit more immersive. The sound system was also better, less bleed. Def the only area of the festival that they actually improved instead of regressed on.

Basically what Launchpad said. Only part of the festival that didn’t take a step back from last year. Caught Jlin and Moodymann there and it was great. Best vibes of the festival in there.
Only went Sunday though so I can’t speak for Saturday.

I would have loved to see Jlin in there. She absolutely destroyed at Eaux Claires to a crowd of 12...
