I love that our interests are so varied and that I get to learn about other artists through this board. Sunday has the most conflict for me. Brandi, Langhorne, Glen, and A Change Is Gonna Come was my worst nightmare come true, lol.
Agreed! I’ve actually learned to appreciate Deer Tick and Julian Baker through some recommendations on here. Friday and Saturday have some nice chunks of downtime (eating) for me, but Sunday ... I’ll be running back and forth between Lone Bellow, Brandi, Glen and the finale.

Sets I will not miss 1. Daniel Norgren 2. Glorietta 3. Batiste and the daps 4. Sturgil 5. Negrito 6. courtney 7. Sacred mountain 8. Gary Clark 9. Nels 10.brandi
Friday and Saturday schedules have had a lot of chatter on this thread, but I am finding Sunday with the largest gaps where I am unsure where I want to be. This is generally OK, because I am so tired that I just want to rest by Sunday. That being said, curious what people are thinking during the following sets as none of the acts have really captured me.
Sunday morning is actually kind of easy for me. There’s no better way to start my day then with Preservation Hall, then I’m staying at the Fort for Passenger and The Lone Bellow. My conflict is Toots vs Gary Clark Jr. don’t know if I can resist seeing som reggae at Newport but I do love me some Gary.

Situations have arisen and we will no longer be attending (UGH). If you've seen GC Jr. lately I'd skip him. The show won't be THAT different.

Hi All, Been lurking for a bit, but never posted. This will be maybe my 5th? 6th? NFF. I've said it over on FB, but a few months ago, Jay Sweet posted about a private Childish Gambino show he went to and then Pitchfork (? Maybe Pitchfork, maybe somewhere else) called Childish Gambino the newest folk artist. How cool would that be for Saturday? Pure speculation on my part, but if I'm right, could someone buy me a beer for a victory lap? I could see Deer Tick backing Stevie Nicks. I'm good with whatever though.

A name that hasn't been mentioned in a few weeks is John Fogerty. Still seems like he could be a definite possibility for Saturday. I don't know why he wouldn't be announced, since his only Northeast date is in upstate NY, but I would be very pleased with him as our Saturday legend.
Chance the Rapper? Probably the best first time true hip hop performer who could bring a variety of music to NFF. BUT they'd now be entering a new world of fans, genre, and competition, while turning off some of the base, with little chance to outdo the competition. Yes, rap is music of the people, of the streets, based on the dozens, before that arguably Shakespeare. But we've barely scratched the surface of the alternative folk-country-blues genre. Dead against it.
Still think the big show is Sunday. Predicting Aretha was the original booking, but with her currently off the road, thinking fall the people and bands who have covered A Change is Gonna Come (i.e. Seal, Passenger...though never count out this being Aretha's day to return). Sprinkle in Buddy Guy, Leon Bridges, and Gary Clark, Jr. Perhaps Mavis or Brittany or Kam Franklin to honor Sharon Jones? Fun guess: and Stephen Colbert. That's why Batiste is the "penultimate" performer of this festival.
Jason Isbell is quoting John Keats poetry with a Chance the Rapper twist on twitter. This is a sure sign that Chance is the closing act on Saturday.

I welcome this idea, but I just can't see it happening. Maybe he would get St. Vincent's slot. Stranger things have happened though!
Like a lot of you I binge on the Newport playlist in the months before the festival. One of the things I find is that there are clear themes that emerge between songs. For example, there are plenty of drinking songs: 'Got Loaded' - The Wood Brothers ' Hurtin (on the Bottle)' - Margo Price 'Boozophilia' - Low Cut Connie
Father Advice Songs: 'Keep it between the lines' - Sturgill Simpson 'Nose on the Grindstone' - Tyler Childers
That being said, as a dad, I have a special place for those songs about parenthood and there are several that are fantastic this year. In fact, each of these songs are ones that I wish I could make a special request that they get played in the short sets that the artists have at Newport. For those other parents out there, if you are in the right space, enjoy:

Change the Subject by Matt the Electrician
God I love Matt the Electrician; definitely one of the most loved announcements this year for me.
Unrealistic unannounced headliner want #175983412706: Keith Richards, sticks around Sunday to play with his buddy, Buddy Guy, during A Change is Gonna Come
Been saying that for months. Stones tour over. Lives in Connecticut. Smart guy who knows what's going on. And has been known to show up unannounced at very small venues. Of course, my dream is ridiculous: all the guitarists from It Might Get Loud. I bet Jack White would be into that.
Initial forecast looks kind of crappy just hoping not to have lightning
This. LD can chime in better however all of the weather stations that we locals trust say next week is going to suck for New England. Not bad 80's but high humidity, potential T-storms every day, and a much needed offset to the drought of possibly 4+ inches of rain over the week. The east bay tends to be in a magical bubble though the odds with this forecast are not in our favor. Plan/pack for more than the traditional 1 bumpy night.

Five years straight and I've still never been to the beer garden or the beer pier.

Same here! I haven't been out on the pier in 4 years, but my wife insists that she tries the Blueberry IPA and she's buying!
Wait, have they announced what beers will be there? We MAYBE go once/fest, either to listen to an act we've already seen a few times at the Quad or take in a Fort set we aren't particularly invested in.
