Saw Hiss last night, they really brought it. No sax player for this show, but it felt like they pulled out all the stops being their last show of the year.

Band gets better every time I see them. Didn't think it could be better than the Pickens aftershows with Angel Olsen/Nicole Atkins singing harmony and Carl Broemel playing slide guitar...but it was. Great show, only down point was the 5 pack of drunken housewives/divorcees bumping into me the entire time with their miller lites.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Newport holds back tickets and sells them through Lyte. I assume Lyte expects a certain amount of traffic so they can make money.

I'm not so sure about that. People's plans change all the time, they buy the wrong quantity at the on sale time, etc. I dont think this is a fest that's doing any funny business behind the scenes.
Hiss Golden Messenger are playing. Not really a surprise, but figured I'd let y'all know
Any bingo cards submitted after "Dec 13, 2017 8:44:18" with HGM on them won't be accepted. Well... they'll be accepted, but I'll tell you to pick a different artist. NO FREEBIES!
As end of year lists start to come out, here are my top 5 Newport artists that I think absolutely have to be there based on their albums released this year (or at least singles):
Margo Price - American Made
Brandi Carlisle - The Joke/The Mother - Single just released that is great
Jason Isbell and the Nashville Unit - The Nashville Sound
Langhorne Slim - Life is Confusing
Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile - Lotta Sea Lice
Will be disappointing if any of them aren't there and/or have to choose among them due to conflicts. Though, said disappointment is inevitable.

Coincidentally all of these artists except Kurt Vile played in 2015, 4 of them on one day, 3 of them on the same stage.
I was 116th in line for Saturday tickets. I got locked out of that day. And now I'm 4th in line in a matter of a week and a half! I don't know how that happened but I'm glad!
I'm glad there are videos out there to show what a great set Edward Sharp had last year. I know a lot of folk missed it given it started late and was subdued at first but what happened in that set is up there with a few truly amazing sets I've seen at Newport. There were so many great moments like midway through this song when the Preservation Hall band just stopped playing as the mike was given to people in the audience to say what was on their minds. I know Edward Sharp is a messianic alter ego but there were several moments near the end of that set when the whole audience abandoned all inhibitions and lived in what was a truly great moment. The video doesn't do it justice.
Chris Thile and company doing a Live From Here recording at Newport would be awesome. Something I thought a lot about today, the Town Hall show last night was amazing.
