I've finished making my spotify playlists for each day for the drive to and from and nonstop listening until friday. Been listening to generic playlists for NFF but now have narrowed down by going through the schedule and eliminating who I know I won't be seeing.
Had a quick question that was bugging me. There was a folk/americana act that had some guys and a woman singer. The woman left the band and started to do some solo stuff and I think some people felt the band wasn't really the same without her. Does that ring any bells for anyone? For some reason I was thinking it was Lone Bellow or Shakey Graves but now I think I was just mixed up. I forget who the band was but the woman had a great voice.

Houndmouth?
Yes! Katie Toupin! That's right. Thank you. I think I mixed all three of those bands up together because I was getting into them around the same time and then kept kinda forgetting and then going back to them. But that's who I was thinking of.
I was thinking if it is Mumford &Sons, I wouldn’t expect any kind of Super Group action. They’re a pretty big get for Newport. Maybe if it was just Marcus, but seeing that the entire group is around I would figure the stage is theirs. I’m fin with that having never seen them before.
For any Jenny Lewis fans, Nicole Atkins just posted that the Watson Twins are playing with her during her museum set, so its safe to assume they will also be playing with Jenny as well.
Just checked their website, and the Watson Twins have Newport listed, with a note saying they will be playing on several Newport sets.

Someone asked about Mumford’s connections on the lineup. Hiss opened for Mumford on their most recent tour.
Which leads me to the supergroup question. I agree, I don’t think we’ll be getting a supergroup if Mumford is involved. But, I’ve never seen Mumford and Sons where they didn’t invite others on stage to jam with them. I’ve seen Dawes join them on stage before. Hiss joined them during this latest tour. Could see this happening frequently at Newport.
Just an aside, but I noticed Mumford posting a few recent Instagram photos with Baaba Maal. Any chance they’d be coming with him and the Very Best to play some stuff off of their EP together? That album was totally underrated.
I’ve always thought it was strange there was a lack of bluegrass on the lineup. That’s led me to suspect that Mumford is the headliner (Jay spent his banjo/bluegrass bookings on the headliner and didn’t feel a need to book it elsewhere on the lineup). Although, I’m still wondering... why the need to not announce them? This is making me think we may be wrong re: M&S

This is awesome news... which just makes that late-day Newport sequence on Saturday more of a crapshoot for me. I love Jenny Lewis, but have seen her more than a half dozen times in recent years. One time, I even got to chatting with Johnny before a sold-out show and he was nice enough to add me to the guest list.
But in all those times, I have not seen her play with The Watson Twins. Would love that.
That said, I’d totally be down for a career spanning Jenny Lewis headlining set at some point. Reunite Rilo Kiley for a bunch of songs. Then with the Watson Twins. Some Jenny Lewis solo. A few songs off of Jenny and Johnny. Some stuff from Nice as F**k. And then, bring out Rostam for their song together.

I have no concept of how popular RK was because I was in LA during their popularity and they were the biggest local band in the scene. I saw them play 20+ times in a few years and it was fantastic. Not sure what their East Coast draw is, though. When they reunite (It's going to happen, I know it), you can bet I'll be taking a few weeks off work and following them around. Still my fav band of all time.

Houndmouth?
Loved Houndmouth with Katie Toupin, and didn't care for each working separately (she was a vendor two years ago, I believe). But last I week found some new work by Katie with a small backing band, and I believe she has found her voice and country roots. Would love to see her, even if just as a guest, and then in the Late July Tent (Ballroom Gypsies did that a few years back). Glad for her. Been a tough ride.

I've also heard the same thing said about edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros
I don’t dislike Mumford but let’s not start calling them bluegrass. They might be bonnaroo bluegrass but they sure aren’t Newport bluegrass
I agree with you that at best they are (or were) bluegrass-lite. But to be fair, in recent years, even Newport has avoided real bluegrass. I wouldn’t put Mumford too far from Trampled by Turtles, Old Crow, and Avett brothers... all bands that Newport likes to book. Newport hasn’t even dabbled in jamgrass too much, with the exception of Dusters (with Ryan Adams). Del is about it in terms of non-museum stage, legit bluegrass (maybe Nickel Creek? But that’s more pop bluegrass). Hell, with the Bluegrass Sitch stage, I’d say Bonnaroo has booked more real bluegrass in recent years.

I assumed Steely was doing the poster this year. He actually designed the shirt (top left)
I dig!
Like the shirt on the left. Hate the hats. Is it too much for Newport to make a non-trucker, normal adjustable ballcap? They have my money as soon as they do. (I might have just missed it).
