The second song from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats new album is also great. That's it, I'm pre ordering. Take my money. Some day I want to drive across America. This will he on the playlist.
Yea, I pre-ordered a little while ago and got tickets to see him in NY in June. Should be great. Can't wait to hear the full thing.

I should hopefully be at that NY show. Pretty great triple bill

Yea, that's the main reason. I think there was another show this day that I was looking at but decided on this cuz I haven't seen enough of The Head and the Heart/Hiss Golden Messenger live (only a small amount at Newport or Roo). Plus the travel to and from the venue is easy for me.
I typed the lyrics wrong into Google at first and got top search results that included Sufjan Stevens and Rilo Kiley. Definitely got a little too excited until I realized my error.
He announced a show at Merriweather that Saturday, the other two days are XPN and Panorama. Unless he pulled the Chicano Batman move and did both in one day

Ben Howard was just added to Mad Cool, it's likely he's only playing that (his only scheduled show at the moment) because of the proximity to his UK location, but would love to finally get him to Rhode Island.
He's another one whose shows people just cannot shut the fuck up at.

I’m sad that Newport has not booked any of the poppy folk singers from across the pond (I lied, Hozier was booked, but prior to his meteoric rise to fame). In my order of preference, I’d take:
Passenger Ben Howard James Bay Vance Joy George Ezra And in a similar but slightly different category, Jake Bugg.
I am assuming they’re probably not cheap, and I am not sure how well they align with the ethos of taking a discount to play the fest, but Passenger still busks on the street corner (so I can’t see it out of his consideration).
(I would put the Lumineers in this category as well, as an artist that has played Newport, but they’re from the states).

He was booked 2 years in a row; once before the rise and once after (assumingly at an enormous pay cut)

Yeah I'm guessing it mostly has to do with money. There's always going to be a bit less history attached to the festival for foreign artists and those names will get their full paycheck plus bring in a lot more of their own fans with a headlining gig or even at Boston Calling than they will at Newport. Just the way it goes.
I wouldn't count any of them out, though. Passenger and Ben Howard I especially think could happen at some point. And I'm confident that this is the year we get Jake Bugg
Plus to be fair they got Hozier both before AND after his meteoric rise to fame
