Floydfest announced he's playing Thursday, so doesn't look like he will do the kickoff party, but I assume we'll see him in some other capacity during the weekend.

I just saw him down in Mexico and he was so good. A while ago I tweeted at him to come back to Newport and he said he'd be there. I know that's not official, but he sounded definite, like he'll be there if he's asked to be. SaveSave

Pretty sure he's in the "come back whenever" club. He's literally always hanging around backstage. With the new album I'm guessing he'll be back for a proper set

We went last year too, so good! So much fun! I'll be there again if they do it (I've heard they will). It's really the perfect vacation/music event. I read a review of the MMJ event before we went to the Avett one last year that described it perfectly. Some guy said that at music festivals the lodging sucks and bathrooms suck food and drinks are too expensive but at all-inclusive vacations the nightlife sucks, so this puts all the perfect parts of each together and takes out all the sucky parts. So, see you at Newport and see you next year in Mexico! SaveSave

It’s hard for me to attribute meaning to a missed post after years of sporadic social media announcements. Although, I didn’t pay attention too much to the rolling announcement last year, but I believe they were fairly regular, right?
They were pretty regular but there a few skipped days. Also, there were a few acts that don’t have lyrics such as Choir! Choir! Choir! Or Berkeley Gospel.

I am going with either Neil Young who has yet to announce any tour dates and yet is rumored to be planning a summer tour. Would be great if he started the announcements with Newport. Or Aimee Mann fresh off her Grammy win, but would have to feel that it wouldn't be as big as last years first announcement.
*(Would have gone with Arcade Fire if it hadn't already been mentioned. Really love their latest album. Would also love a Sturgill Simpson announcement. I tweeted at him to come and Newport liked the tweet so it is pretty much a lock that he is coming )

Time to start the debate as to whether he's a headliner or not
I could see it going either way. Most likely yes, but potentially no. I’ll wait for an outside publication to refer to him as a headliner.
Just fyi, publications won't know whether he's a headliner or not. Newport doesn't announce that to them either.
And interestingly, this year it looks as though they're not even ordering artists by billing on the website. Sturgill's underneath Fantastic Negrito on the By Day page, so it's either alphabetical or by announcement order
