I would like to think that we have our top two on Friday. Both have the chops to potentially headline. Both fit well as subheadliners. Neither seem to fit anywhere below a subheadlining spot on the lineup.
Has anyone else noticed that the days are sort of taking on themes? Friday is really becoming the alt-country day (Colter Wall is the only exception not booked for Friday). Saturday is the indie-folk day. Sunday is the soul/blues day. Would be interesting if this trend continues (and helps shape the headliners for Sat and Sun).
Bon Iver or Arcade Fire on Saturday
John Fogerty or Aretha Franklin on Sunday
or something uniquely 'Newport' instead of any of those

Aretha Franklin also has a summer Boston date unfortunately.
As for Bon Iver, given that he plays Massachusetts later this month, it would be a good announcement to make after those shows.
I’d also add Florence as a possibility for indie-folk night with the Osheaga announcement.
One thing that worries me is if Sunday mainstage does take on a soul/blues theme (although, those bands right now could just as easily play the Quad), the War on Drugs may not have been booked. Sunday is their only available date. And while they could close Quad, if Sunday mainstage is soul/blues, Passenger is likely the Quad closer.

Had the same thought on Florence.
I wouldn't worry about that with TWOD. If Newport wanted to book them it's not like they wouldn't just because the band doesn't fit some theme on the day they're available.
Am not previously familiar with Twain, but after one listen, I can dig it. These are the bookings I love- room for exploration.
He was a member of spirit family reunion before leaving to go solo. He won me over at NFF while in that band and I've seen him as Twain and it's great. Different vibe than SFR but still good stuff
I was so disappointed when he left that band too. They are still good, but better with him.
Yea, while I love the band he was the voice that really drew me to them. First saw them at Newport and liked the idea of multiple singers rotating in the group. I love his version of this song:
OoOoOo... I do love me some SFR. Especially the songs, shows, and videos before he left the group. Didn't realize this was his new project.
After listening to a few of his songs, before NFF announced which day he was playing, I had trouble assigning him to one of the days (based upon my previous categorization). I hear the alt-country in his musical styling. His voice is pretty soulful. But he also gives me that indie/hipster Bonnie Prince Billy vibe.
