I'm delighted to have Brandi back. I ended up skipping half the Sufjan set to see hers in 2015. Please don't make the conflicts that hard this year Newport. Dolly Parton and Kris Kristofferson were great on her charity album.
Never heard. Listening now, and I like it. Reminds me of Tallest Man on Earth (but doesn’t quite hit me like a TMOE song would).
With that said (this is just being picky at this point because I do genuinely like the lineup), enough with the singer songwriters. We need more bands/collectives on this lineup. If you look at the artist images on the website, only 5 have more than 2 people. Out of those 5, 2 are still based around a singer songwriter (JD McPherson and Jason Isbell, who at least is billed with the 400 Unit). If they really wanted to, this fest could hire one highly skilled backing band that could play with 90% of the artists at this point.
That goes to say I am hoping for more rawk (with a w, like Gogol Bordello, Deer Tick, MMJ, Dawes, J Roddy Walston in yesteryears) and more bluegrass (Darlingside the only pseudo-bluegrass band on the lineup? How can you have a folk fest in the folk revival period without banjos?)

^ above critique would be less of a concern at this point if some of these artists do play museum. In fact, upon first listen, I thought he would be an excellent Museum act.

fully agree. could be a budgeting issue (less people to pay to be on stage) but also could be they put most of the individuals early in the lineup announcements to make sure they don't get lost when the bigger announcements come out.

Fantastic Negrito is pictured three times, so there's that! Also, digging his new song "Plastic Hamburgers" that is up on NPR - All Songs today.
Same on not being familiar with Daniel Norgren and really liking him. Has a high number of listens on Spotify so am guessing he is big in Europe. Good addition.
Each day has at least one person I am REALLY excited about and several that I am happy to see. Was looking back at last years lineup and thinking of all the artists that I didn't get to see because of conflicts and recognize that we will get there with this lineup as well.
Also surprised there have been no mystery announcements a la "Chuck!" or "Grandma's Hands Band".

Listening to the new Fantastic Negrito song now, it's making me look forward to his set.

Re: Fantastic Negrito - 😂 (Thanks for the new song recommendation)
Re: Daniel Norgren - Might be the Swedish connection (Spotify is headquartered in Sweden)
I don't really get the desire for more bands. If a solo artist plays with a full band is that really all that different than if they're officially a band?
Half the bands these days are basically glorified solo projects anyways

I may be with you on this but it definitely still needs time to play out. I just got curious and went back to count up the performers last year (excluding the Museum Stage).
Friday: 9 Bands - 9 Solo or strict duos
Saturday: 9 Bands - 9 Solo or strict duos
Sunday: 10 Bands - 8 Solo or strict duos
I was thinking last year was probably band heavy because the things that stuck out to me were Chuck, Grandma's Hands, Speak Out, Avetts, Offa Rex, Fleet Foxes, Wilco, etc. But I was wrong... the lineup was extremely balanced. I think when the lineup is completed it will balance out with more bands appearing towards the top of the bill.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Deer Tick is playing the Main stage this year. Negrito will rock it
