As with Neil, I took that tweet from Jay to be implying that Eddie is not booked. Not that things couldn't have changed in the last month, but a consistent response of "it's on his radar" is basically his team turning down the offer to play while leaving the door open for the future.

He’s also not going to come out and say he’s booked either. “on his radar” is much more promising than “he doesn’t get it” as in Neil’s case.

I think if they'd been booked he wouldn't say anything about them at all. That tweet seems like Jay trying to get fans to take up the cause.
But the amount of Newport friends Eddie has could definitely help. I could see him going the Justin Vernon route and just popping up this year
Listed higher than Jon Batiste and the Dap Kings on the NOLA JazzFest lineup. So, if booked for Sunday, could technically be the headliner if Batiste was the sub that day.
Cheech & Chong Ben & Charlie works for me because I look at it and think "That's a cool booking that I'd happily check out," but I'd have no issue missing their set for someone else.
My concern is a lineup full of these. Could put Toots in there as well, IMO.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
They’re playing the “Ocean Mist” which is a shack in RI. Not sure that’d place them too high.
You’re right. For some reason, very generous listing for JazzFest (but when you have such a massive lineup, you can list bands wherever you’d like). But the rest of their tour playing some small gigs. Middle of the day set at Lockn. Reminds me most of Newport’s Jimmy Cliff booking.
More artists to come is still listed on the website for Sunday. Although, it could be an accident (this has happened before, and it was removed shortly after).
Realistically, Twain and Nels Cline could make for good Museum Acts on that Sunday. (Twain is pretty low on the Nelsonville lineup; although got a decent amount of likes on the Newport announcement)

Saw people on twitter hoping for a True Love album reunion (or some guests) that feature a few names that would definitely fit Newport, but some are too big and haven't been announced as actually being there. We have Ben Harper but other names listed that people on twitter hoped for:
Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Trey Anastasio, No Doubt, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Manu Chao, The Roots, Ryan Adams, etc
Could see one or two of those names maybe pop up but not expecting this to happen.

I bet Twain is one of those acts that plays ALL OVER the festival in smaller sets. Like the museum, then the kids tent, then the indoor listening/recording thing at the back of the quad. And guest spots everywhere.

Yeah but don’t they keep that up until all announcements including Museum have been added?

They’re playing the “Ocean Mist” which is a shack in RI. Not sure that’d place them too high.
For context, they're also playing at Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center, which is where Mavis is playing this summer, and are playing College Street Music Hall who has seen folks like the Avett Brothers, Stephen Stills & Judy Collins, Willie Nelson, Wilco, Lucinda, Isbell, Gillian, the Flaming Lips, The Decemberists, and Conor Oberst among many many others the past couple years. Not saying they'll headline, but I wouldn't necessarily judge them by the Ocean Mist (which they're playing amidst 4 other MA and CT dates in the surrounding week) haha Also, Deer Tick played at Ocean Mist last summer.

I went scrolling through the 2017 thread, and at least last year the "more artists coming soon" blurb looked to be removed prior to the museum announcements.

Not sure what True Love is, but I’ve requested two artists every year: Kacey Musgraves and Manu Chao. You would see me go crazy if Manu Chao was added. He/they are at the top of my bucket list and I am ready to travel to a show next time they play a non-festival date in the US.
Unfortunately, I expect they cost more than the benefit that Newport would expect to get from having them on the lineup. Many people would scratch their heads. And they’ve played arenas in Europe. But I think they would easily win everyone over as a set of the festival as soon as hey started playing (especially if full band).

Yes, I always pay attention to this. The “More announcement coming” blurb gets taken down once the main lineup for that specific day is finished. Museum announcements typically come later. Usually, you can expect 18 announcements per day which Sunday is already at.
I can remember one time when the more announcements coming blurb was left up but no additional announcements were made.
If they treat the museum as a main stage, I think it would be used for smaller more intimate performances and the popularity of the artist probably wouldn’t matter because NFF will want to bring validity to every stage.
If they have 5 artists on each day, so far I could see:
Friday: Darlingside Lucius (Nudes set?) Rachael and Vilray Sidi Touré Tuck & Patti
Saturday: Bedouine Cheech & Chong Daniel Norgren Tank & the Bangas Valerie June
Sunday: Charlie Parr Jen Cloher Nels Cline The Weather Station Twain
If this were to come to fruition then we would still have a lot more announcements to go. Most likely it’s not happening and this is just going to be a bit of a down year (If you don’t like Alt-Country and prefer the Indie-Folk side of Newport as I do), but it’s still fun to think about what they could be doing... especially since we know Chris Funk won’t be there to run For Pete’s Sake.

Yea, I didn't really either. This is from Wikipedia:
True Love is an album by Toots & the Maytals. It is a collection of their classics re-recorded with guest artists including Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Trey Anastasio, No Doubt, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Manu Chao, The Roots, Ryan Adams, Keith Richards, and The Skatalites. The album was produced and conceived by Richard Feldman and released on the V2 label.
True Love won the 2004 Grammy award for Best Reggae Album.

If that were the case, that would maybe explain the change to daily announcements?
I’d remove Lucius, Tank, and Cheech and Chong from that list or people would get very angry that they could not get in to see these bands due to capacity crowds. Tank also has way too much energy; they are getting fairly high listings on festival lineups this summer. (But I do see why you included all of these).
Realistically though, Nels is the only Museum act announced so far and this would allow for one more act to be announced to Sunday (the headliner).

It could... especially if they were planning on that but then plans changed mid booking/announcement cycle.
It could also explain the switch to alphabetical order for announcements on the website rather than billing order.
This isn’t the first time they’ve switched to daily announcements though. That infamous final 5 in the 2016 that included Ryan Adams, Alabama Shakes, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, and I forget the other one... I think those were daily announcements in one week.

Those are the exact same three that I considered a stretch. If this wereto happen I would think three more smaller acts would be announced to replace them on my list.
