Not sure if people listen to Low Cut Connie on album, or if they’re one of those bands that are meant to best exist live, but their new album is up on NPR First Listen.

Count me in on the excited for low cut Connie train.
interested to listen to new stuff but here are a few of my favorite studio tracks from them, if anyone’s interested in dipping their toe, def not a live-only band:
- boozofilia - call me sylvia - big thighs nj - forever - revolution rock and roll - rio - Beverly

May 7: Haden Triplets May 8: After Show May 12: After Show May 17: 3 After Shows June 9: Jack White
So def not the first time they have had these gaps.
And I believe that was due to Jack having a radius clause for headlining Governors Ball (like he is again this year)
I think the only thing leaning me away from his headlining is that none of his label artists are on the lineup. The year he came, the lineup was littered with TMR artists.

I agree with that. I don't necessarily think it'll be Jack again, but I was just pointing out that the only long delays that I can recall like this were due to there being a radius clause.

That was likely convincing him to take a pay cut and take a chance on the festival. While he would probably still have to play at a discount, I assume he holds the festival in higher regards now and may not need the extra enticing.
I had mentioned Aretha a page back, and it’s possible she was scheduled to play and Newport had to go into a tailspin if she had to cancel due to health concerns (as was noted she’s cancelled other shows this summer including her set at Nola Jazz Fest). This may also be the reason why it seems like we’re missing a headliner on Sunday, but if a Toots or Brandi ended up being a last minute replacement. Even if this whole story is a long shot, there are many reasons why we may not have the final announcement.
It could also be an artist waiting to announce a reunion or a specific tour. I recall Beck’s announcement as headliner coincided with some big artist specific announcements (did he use the opportunity to announce his folk album?). It wasn’t delayed that year, but it may have just better aligned with the end of the announcements. Fingers crossed Ryan Adams is getting ready to announce a few Whiskeytown shows or Tweedy ready to announce a few Uncle Tupelo shows.

Do not recall -- had the Museum Acts / themes been named by this time last year? That would seem a way to fill a couple of weeks. Why are we hearing nothing, or...have some been named? I can see Tuck and Patti, for example, playing indoors. Someone like Amanda Shires playing indoors, while also teaming up with other acts, including Jason Isbell. Otherwise, I don't see why the More Artists posted is still up. And expectations be damned, Newport now owns expectations -- and still has a business model that includes boasting first day sell-outs and a payoff in exchange.
Blasphemous thought -- If acoustic Neil Young were to headline, is that still a closing set? Only saw him with CSNY, so don't know the solo show he produces or how well he "plays" (collaborates) with others.
Sunday -- Been saying that the Dap Kings and Batiste close because i assumed they would be a kind of house band for someone like Aretha. If that was the case, and she is out, do they need a whole new closing act, or would a bunch of surprise guests keep people from departing early? It would take more than Buddy Guy, but a Keith Richards to make that now a headliner. Scramble time? Are the Lumineers touring? Monsters and Men? Is Lake Street Dive too borderline?

There are already 10-12 bands each day that I want to see. And that's without any surprise guests or museum stage acts. So I'm not sure what else I'd be looking for them to add. I'm already going to miss 6 I want to see as it is at a minimum.

For me...
Bang for the buck acts? Unique and/or rare acts?
I could spend the summer in Pittsburgh and see quite a few of the acts I’d want to see on the lineup for free... Toots, Lukas Nelson, Valerie June, Lucius, Langhorne Slim, and Low Cut Connie to name a few.
Obviously I go for the experience above the “cost-benefit” (and the tickets themselves are priced extremely fairly; it’s the cost of lodging that skews the comparisons) and I don’t necessarily mean this in a negative way as that’s always been the nature of the festival, but that’s why I usually love the headline caliber acts and/or unique bookings. They save me a $40+ ticket to a show (and if rare and of interest to me enough, the money I may spend on traveling to see them on their own; or sometimes they wow me enough to convince me to spend that money on a show of theirs). That’s sort of how I felt the years Nickel Creek, Beck, and Jack White were booked (and had I attended in more recent years, Roger Waters, Middle Brother, and Ryan Adams with the Dusters).
This is not a complaint per se. This lineup is growing on me. But I would be a lot happier if Saturday was balanced more with Friday. Instead, at this moment, I have to choose if I want to pay $60 more to see FJM.

You can pay $35 to see him at Stage AE. Interested to see what other late night shows emerge, maybe Lord Huron or Dawes and who if we get a Saturday headliner even though usually I knly catch the end of the headliner.
Agree there are a lot of things I could see here, but I'm traveling to Tennessee for Moon River the day of Outlaw Music Festival and I've got conlicts when Langhorne / LCC play their free show in town, so kinda works out for me in the long run, but would be nice to get something with a little more for the cost of the hotel.

I think the last two years they announced the museum stuff and aftershows on the same schedule (MWF) after the official lineup was done. Which makes me even more befuddled as to why we've had no "On the Museum Stage" announcements this year, and why they only announced two of what is usually at least four after shows (and I'm still guessing it'll be more like 6-8 this year.) Hard time filling it out? Big Surprises? Just not announcing these things this year? I dunno.
I don't think there's any question that Neil Young in any capacity is a headliner. I've heard that he's played shows where he just puts a microphone next to a tape recording of himself and I think that would be a headliner at Newport.
The scrambling on Sunday theory would make more sense to me if not for the numbers--18 Friday and we're certain it's done, 18 Sunday and we're convinced something is missing.

That set is gonna be a blast! Can’t wait for that one!
Still stands out as one of the best shows I've yet seen at Lincoln Center Outdoors. Glad to see NPR has found them. Doesn't get more roots than this: "Frontman Adam Weiner plays a piano named "Shondra," after a dancer at the Clermont Lounge in Atlanta." They actually travel with that acoustic monstrosity.
Check out video of "Beverly" from the new album. There is a "censored version, as well. Mixing a little politics in there, too.
I agree with everyone. I am already overbooked on people I want to see. I blame us and recent headline bookings for this desire to have some "name" or unique act. Heck, I've paid $79 plus fees just to se Brandi and the Twins. Love to see her close the show, But how cool to see some reunion band, or crazy pairing like the guitarists from It Might Get Loud. Btw -- competition is gonna get crazy next year when Woodstock reaches its 50th year /anniversary. Whatever. Lots of competition for my $$$.
