Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Also, I hate that you automatically have your credit card charged if randomly selected. On one hand, it cuts down on people requesting tickets when they do not have much interest in actually attending.
But I am trying for 4 tickets. Ideally I would also have my 3 friends try for tickets too, but if we are all randomly selected, we’d end up with 16 tickets and we would all get charged $220.
Similarly I only want to go one night but would like to have a chance at being selected for each of the nights (to increase my chance of being able to get in the door). If I happened to get selected for all three nights then I get charged over $600 for the four tickets I am requesting.
Same... Only wanna go one night. Can't really afford to request two tickets for each night and have my girlfriend do the same to increase our odds. We each requested one night. If we get both we'll sell the tickets for one night. Hopefully if we don't get any the resale market will be full of good folk who sell the tickets at face value.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

I don't understand the issue and why they did this. It hurts people who are totally into this, but, it is what it is. I guess you can't complain if it's at random. We only go Sunday, so here's hoping.

Gonna be a lot of people selling tix for DT is my guess. This sucks. I’ve been to 19 of the 21 shows and it’s the main reason we come back every year. Now it’s random? How does that help the real fans of the band? If anyone on here is lucky enough to score tix and has extras, my group will buy any extras. Thanks. A bummed Deertick fan
You can’t really sell Deer Tick tix though, as the name has to match ID. The only way is by being there with them, that’s what I had to do in the past when I gave my ticket away to a friend.

All good things come to an end, I suppose
Right. A "real fan" of Deer Tick is able to buy tickets the second they go on sale no matter what else their life might require of them.
Pretty sure the event poster is trolling all of you

Honestly I’m not around for most on sales, but either a friend or a member of this board is usually willing to grab one for me if I ask nicely. This means trusting someone with your card information but for the future I’m sure many of us would be willing to help you out.

It happens one day a year. Our group always gets organized and tries our best to get in. What’s wrong with that? Know what you want in life and go for it.... the rare nights we have extras, we always give them away to real fans

I'm not talking about myself really. I've never tried for tickets because after shows haven't been an option for me in past years. I just think this move helps more than it hurts.
I understand the complaint of choosing the shows and trying to having multiple people trying to get tickets. They should have accounted for that better. But as far as the random selection goes, and saying that this hurts the "real fans", you sound like you're entitled to get these tickets. You're not. You have no more right to them than anyone else. There are people who've never been to a DT aftershow that will get that opportunity this year. That is a good thing.

I’m going to assume you’re talking about a general “you” because I haven’t made any of those assertions. I just see both sides or this.
Honestly as long as I can secure a FJM after show ticket I’ll be happy this year.

I agree with you. I'm bummed that I'm at the whim of a raffle but I don't really care too much. If I get in, great. If I don't oh well!

Yes to all of this. If they had a raffle for the FJM show I'd probably be a little more upset myself, so I definitely get it.
But I think when there are three nights for DT and they do it every year it just doesn't bother me much. I'm also just rubbed the wrong way by the concept of "real fans," "day 1s," etc.
last year was my first time at a deer tick after show and it was a dream come true and felt like a true pilgrimage for a band i had seen nearly 10 times previous.
that being said, the reason i am not planning on trying for tickets this year is sorta based on all these "real fans" or "day 1s" people are mentioning. there were a few groups of people in the crowd last year who used their badge of fandom to heckle other fans, bully people and generally create what felt like an unsafe place to watch a show. these people were quick to remind people how many times theyve been at these shows and it seemed to feed some sense of entitlemnet. now this was likely just a few bad apples and im sure none of you kinda folks were in these groups, but it kinda turned me off to the whole thing. so sorry to say it, but perhaps a new system that weeds out some entitlement might not be worst thing.

I have no issue with the concept of “real fans”. I don’t think mrsticks version of real fans applies broadly across all actual “real fans” (but unfortunately there are people like that).
It reminds me of the Buffalo Springfield reunion at Bonnaroo. It was the highlight of that year’s lineup for me. I hit up the stage early in the day so I could find my way up to the railing by show time. 1 minute before Buffalo Springfield took stage, a bunch of drunk jerks filtered in front of me in the VIP area at the front of the stage, and talked and shouted at each other through the whole show, briefly shutting up for a few seconds of For What It’s Worth, while turning and asking those of us in front row to take pictures of them with Buffalo Springfield in the background.
I’m not a “real fan” of Buffalo Springfield, but I invested the time and effort (not just the money) necessary to see their performance. Instead, a bunch of jerks ruined part of the set for me because it was incredibly convenient for them to do so.
I’m all for restricting the “convenience” in some cases so that the “real fans” have a better shot. Even if this requires me to buy Taylor Swift’s merch before I get a shot at ticket sales. (The right idea is there; the implementation requiring purchases might not be the best.)

i realize my story doesnt really take a side in this argument and is liable to just start trouble. wasnt the intention, just sharing an experience that left me a bit disappointed.

Yeah in my ideal scenario VIP wouldn't be a thing either. It has no place in music. And people shouldn't be drunk jerks. But a drunk jerk and someone saying they're a bigger fan because them and their friends have the resources to buy tickets at noon on a Friday or whatever are just as bad in my book.

All I will say is that in 2016, I walked up with about 6 other people I met at the Shovels & Rope after show. 5 of them had tickets and the one guy I had chatted with said just walk over with us, we'll get in. Needless to say I was skeptical, but it wasn't like I was doing anything else. Door guy checks guest list and checks crowd inside real quick and he says we got room $60 each or whatever the ticket price was that year.
Moral of the story, doesn't hurt to ask at the door if you don't get tickets.
Also, I hate that you automatically have your credit card charged if randomly selected. On one hand, it cuts down on people requesting tickets when they do not have much interest in actually attending.

Well I think that, like someone else posted, we can huddle together and help each other out on this board as best as we can. It won't help the people that have no intention of going on specific nights, but if you have extras and are going maybe we can use this thread as a Lyte lite (sorry had to) for the Deer Tick after shows. God knows I've been bailed out by friends on this board for a few of these shows in the past.
I, for one, will be looking for help if I get shut out and will be willing to help if my friends and I all are randomly selected for tickets.
Most smaller festivals have lottery system aftershow ticketing from what ive seen. Telluride Bluegrass has been doing that for years.
That’s great and all, but this is Newport, and it’s been done differently for years.
Oh I agree that they shouldn't do it, but I'd rather see a lottery system for the aftershows than the actual Festival! The way some people bitch and moan on the NFF Facebook page.... yikes! If there's 5 minutes a year to take a break, drop everything and get on a ticket site, it's that 10am period every December!
