Some random thoughts. This has been a strange year all around for announcements. Ramped up early to one a day announcements. There have only been 2 podcasts, only one of which being related to this year's fest. I dunno. Something seems off. I wonder if this is the year we don't have headliners announced...

If they end up going the unannounced route, it seems like whoever the headliners are have to be sure to please... After all the hype and rumors swirling around the fest for '65 Revisited (and, to a lesser extent, last year's unannounced Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats set), my assumption was that they were going to shy away from that approach. If they go unannounced in the headliner slot, they know (based on previous experience) that rumors will fly and whoever fills those slots has to match the hype.

I actually could see Phil playing this before Bobby ever does. Thinking that the Robert Hunter booking from a few years ago, which frankly is probably in the top 3 or 5 most important bookings of the modern Folk Fest, could have some influence.

Of the two, Phil definitely is more about the music and less about the money. At least that's what it looks like from the festivals that Phil is playing. He can't be getting paid hand over fist for Pot of Gold and Peach. Bobby, on the other hand, is pretty much Lockn' or bust these days.

Strangest thing to me so far is that the biggest artist announced for Saturday is playing an aftershow.

Ugh, yes! If Langhorne can't be there to kick it off then Shakey would definitely be 2nd choice. However, as much as I actually am getting into his new album, I hope he plays more of his other, grittier stuff. I'll gladly listen to the new album at his festival set.
Let’s not ignore the Willies Reserve sponsor. Clearly extending a connection to get Willie in future.
The future?
Also just badass to have a marijuana company as a sponsor
I know it’s approved for recreational use (and will be for sale via approved retailers as soon as this summer) in MA, but is it recreational in Rhode Island?

I think just medical unfortunately. But this year definitely has one of the most stoned out lineups Newport's put together in recent years

Love the weed, but I think I'd feel a bit odd blazing openly with as many families as there are at newport.

I’ve been doing it for years with no issue, but be discrete and don’t do it around small children. This year will be even easier for me as I’ve switched to cannabis vape pens which have no real odor.

I was going to recommend vape pens. But yeah I've always just gone to more secluded areas, normally back of the Quad, and haven't had an issue
