Late to the party but I’m torn on the deer tick argument. On the one hand, pledgemusic was a nightmare for me last year and for my brother the year before. But they did make it right, and we were in the building.
I sort of get the “real fans make the effort” thing but...NBC holds what, 300 people? And there’s 10,000 per day at the fest? Even if ONLY festival goers were looking for tickets those are pretty long odds, and that’s without assuming that some of that small number is going to bots and scalpers looking to profit off the hottest ticket in town. I think because of that I like the attempt to spread the wealth of the aftershow around a little.
More personally it’s also less stressful for me to offer this up to the random number god. I’m more into the aftershow than the wife, so I’m always torn on how much we should do. This’ll let me put in for Friday and Saturday and then wash my hands of it.
2018 AFTERSHOW BENEFIT ANNOUNCEMENT: We're back at Parlor Newport again this year for two nights of benefits – July 27 & 28. Texas Music Office & Kessler Presents: Glorietta & Friends – featuring Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit), Noah Gundersen, Kelsey Wilson (Wild Child), David Ramirez, Adrian Quesada (Brown Out, Black Pumas), Jason Robert Blum, and friends. Additional thanks to Lagunitas Brewing Co for their continued support. Tickets go on sale May 22 at 10AM EST. Stay tuned for more information.
Also reading through the seated FAQ it does seem like you can have the name changed on the will call list if you need to transfer tickets to someone else.

So...100% does not prevent scalping.
One could say that it’s easier to scalp now, than before.

The scalper has the same chance of getting a ticket as everyone else, though.
And Newport is usually very good about identifying them. I just don't think it stops any normal person from buying 4 and selling 2 for exorbitant prices.

Sure, it's on the fans to help be part of the solution and not be willing to pay those prices.

Do they though? Scalpers are sophisticated enough to have multiple credit cards associated with multiple billing addresses. They have the ability to submit significantly more requests for tickets and thus receive a higher likelihood of being chosen for tickets.
With that said, I’m not certain we need worry about scalpers. I am not sure they’ll target a show that they cannot resell using StubHub. This would require communication between the ticket seller and buyer and the buyer trusting the seller enough to change the name at will call.

Still torn. If "real fan" just winds up equaling "person with the means to pay for a stubhub ticket" than I'm definitely not into that, but if scalpers are just gonna take advantage of it anyway (probable) that's a bummer. I guess I at least appreciate that Newport/DT are at least trying to keep the scalper problem to a minimum.
All that said, I put in for both friday and saturday but only want to go once. Any word on a safe way to sell to others? Or is it just "private sale, call will call and change the name?"
Does anyone think it's possible that Springsteen could headline Saturday? I noticed he isn't paying his broadway show that night, the only Saturday in the summer that there's no show.

He’s the prediction I’ve been sticking with, although I think he’d fit better on Sunday after A Change Is Gonna Come. Definitely a long shot and I won’t be disappointed if he’s not there, but I’m hopeful
Do we all have our Deer Tick requests in? Now we wait...
I put in for Sunday in hopes that Fly Golden Eagle are around and I can get my Thunderbitch set during the after party.
Also, I’d love to get a sample of how Glorietta sounds prior to next week’s on sale. I want to say I’ll like them, but supergroups can be hit or miss. Although, I expect a good time regardless given their affiliations. It could be pretty cool to get an entire Brownout or Black Pumas set as the “Friends” for one or both of the shows.
Give me Arcade Fire on Saturday and Bruce on Sunday!
So we figure the Saturday night headliner is the one open slot. This is either due to a delayed announcement, in which case, it doesn't need to be spectacular. Could be Jack White due to Boston Calling or another artist who is performing in the Boston area and waiting for tickets to sell out or similar (Beck, Paul Simon, etc.) As much as I would like Arcade Fire, I can't imagine them waiting until the mid-July Boston concert to announce them and/or leaving them as a surprise unannounced guest.
If they go the route of unannounced guest for a headliner, the stakes are high and it needs to be someone that would be universally loved. Imagine having to choose from the Sunday night quad closer and an unannounced fort headliner. You better have someone that people won't be upset about. So, that leaves legends: Bruce, Neil Young.
The best would be some combination of the above. Arcade Fire has performed with both Bruce Springstein and Neil Young at least once (as seen on YouTube.)
Other thing I would say is that the headliner often has a crossover with someone else on the lineup. Think Wilco and Billy Bragg or John Prine and everyone else. So, if you look at the other artists on Saturday, there may be clues. Most obvious is the Promise of the Real as a back-up band for Neil Young. Would say Kurt Vile/War on Drugs because of the obvious Courtney Barnett connection but they are already booked in Camden that day and while there is lots of XPonential crossover hard to imagine them headlining both on the same day. That being said I am really surprised they/he aren't on the lineup anywhere.
