I live about 4 miles from the festival grounds. We never had a problem with Uber or Lyft last year. Quick in and out and fees weren't outrageous. The Galt House is an 8 minute walk from the festival grounds and their rooms aren't too expensive.
I believe they ran shuttles last year but I never used them. I don't know much about that I'm afraid.
This festival is extremely laid back and you can get within 10 people of the main stage as long as you're there one show early 90% of the time.
Take away all the acts that have played Forecastle already, and the acts that play KY/TN 2-3 times a year, and all you're left with is Arcade Fire. This lineup is fucking lazy.
and it’s not like Kentucky is a cool enough state to have enough stuff to do throughout the day when the schedule wears thin. If it were two days, I’d consider it, but it’s not worth the three days.
Sorry that being at a music festival on a river isn't stimulating enough for you.
I would like to know about the after party situation, and just general "stuff to do" in Louisville while I'm there.
They will have 2-3 late night shows on Friday and Saturday. Also, some local venues may have unofficial late night shows as well. Outside of those there are some decent bar spots in downtown or near downtown that aren't on 4th street.
Things other than the festival the Louisville Slugger Museum is downtown and Churchill Downs isn't too far away. They have really built up the Urban Bourbon Trail (distilleries and bourbon spots in downtown) over the past few years and a couple more opening this year. You can go there for tastings, tours prior to the festival or if you have a car you can travel 45 minutes and go to some of the distilleries out in the state.
There is a lot of different things to due specific to Kentucky and I am sure any of the Louisvillians on here can point you in the right directions.

They announce separately ticketed late night shows at 3 venues around town on Friday and Saturday nights. The artists range from very good to very meh, so I can't say what will be available.
I live on the party road currently. Bars don't close until 4 and there's a wide variety of late night places to hang out from live music to dance to pool halls to pubs. This road is a 5 minute uber away. Zanzabar is popular and they have a wall of pinball machines to play while you drink.
There is also a designated party street for tourists called 4th Street Live. It's kinda gaudy and the drinks are expensive, but its only a 10 minute walk from the festival. They have live music there, bowling, tons of activities and food.
During the day, our biggest draw is food. Louisville's becoming a ridiculous food town. 100 new restaurants opened here last year. If you're into Bourbon, there are several distilleries nearby to tour and a stop on the bourbon trail could easily take up a morning/early afternoon. Our record shops are also the shit here. I know of 4 on the street I live on alone.
There's some historical stuff to do, Louisville Slugger Museum, Muhammad Ali exhibit. But if I was visiting from out of town, I'd get on Bardstown Road and pub crawl until the fest started. Just imo. If you are the more sober type, the Big 4 bridge is a walking bridge above the Ohio River and maybe a 5 minute walk from the fest's east side. Amazing view and you can see the entire festival grounds from there.
Plenty of parking for free down River Rd. Take your bicycles. We always did. No rules on riding around with a 6 pk hanging off your mid-bar. Also, bicycles are nice if you stay on Jeffersonville side.
edit: like Dale Cooper said - the Big 4 bridge is clutch for those staying on Indiana side

This lineup seems a little TOO perfectly catered to me. I can't pass this up! Just booked my favorite Room at the Galt and can't wait to get back to Louisville!

This is inaccurate. And I don't like Kentucky at all.
For those looking to come for the first time, this is the easiest festival I've ever done. I know a lot of industry folks who say this is their favorite, and it's easy to understand why. If you're on the fence, just do it. There are tons of hotels within walking distance and the after parties are fun, whether they take place at an actual show or at a hotel bar. Arcade Fire are the perfect band for that riverfront and this festival and it's one of only three USA dates thus far this year. I'm also excited that AF now looks to be a third headliner for the bigs and not even the first name on the mids. This bodes well for building quality headliner depth in the future. I'm posting the lineup since it doesn't seem to have been done yet. Don't sleep on Teddy Abrams and friends and Khraungbin.

Yeah, it's not like you (or, anyways, an actual grown-up) could go to a bourbon distillery, or a horse farm/track, or like Louisville is a major metropolitan area with plenty going on.

Douche.
If you're going to make a statement like that, you better be an exciting fucking person who wouldn't have time to waste on the internet

You can definitely dick around on Inforoo while in Kentucky, afaik.
You can probably even bullshit people about who's headlining Bonnaroo. Never tried, though!

Sorry that being at a music festival on a river isn't stimulating enough for you.
Why would I go to a music festival if the lineup barely has anything I enjoy? And the five acts I do care for, I’ve already seen or am going to see this year

Good point, luckily theres nothing for you to do here during the festival so you aren't forced to attend. Lol

Looks like Stapleton & Isbell are at Forecastle Saturday, Sloss Sunday.
Did Sloss release a daily lineup?
Stapleton's website has Forecastle listed Saturday, Sloss Sunday. Isbell is in Kansas on Friday. I would doubt he goes down to Alabama and then back up to Kentucky, but could be wrong. I would also assume Sloss would have Stapleton & Isbell co headlining, but also could be wrong again.

Gotcha.
Jason Isbell > Chris Stapleton is a lot of country back-to-back. This is one reason still think we could get an addition in the top 6. Also, Houndmouth and The War on Drugs are super exciting acts to pre-headline, and this from someone who wants to see both shows. I've seen War on Drugs, its not a really high-energy show.

Had to post a small comment chain from reddit. It's great.
Comment 1:
Sigh, I'm only interested in Jimmy Eat World and T-Pain, not worth the money. Work on your ability to pull entertainers people.
Comment 2:
Lol if the two acts in that lineup you’re interested in are Jimmy Eat World and fucking T-Pain I would love to hear the other acts you would prefer to see
Comment 3:
Oh i don't know, actual known artists that have made a clear presence. Not a bunch of lesser known hipster, EDM crap. If I'm paying that much money I want to know I'm going to have a good time and not "find out when i get there". Jimmy Eat World and T-Pain make good music so don't be so fucking hipster about it. But to humor you: Gambino, Macklemore, Tonight Alive, City and Colour, Post Malone, Bryson Tiller, Lights, Four Year Strong
