RHCP have arguably the biggest collection of bonafide hits of any rock band after 1980 and have been radio staples for decades. Even if they're well past their prime, it's not really a fair comparison. The Black Keys can't even pretend to be interested in their own music anymore
Foo Fighters and Green Day, I think, probably can rival them in terms of hit songs. Speaking of, I really wish Green Day was at the Meadows and RHCP played Global Citizen's Festival.
I'm sorry, but I only know 2 hit songs by Foo Fighters, My Hero and that learn to fly song or whatever it is. Do they really have a lot of hits?

Like.. 20?
Edit:. There are 36 singles from the foo fighters.. not sure how you want to classify hits but I would almost guarantee you know a lot more than 2
The Killers would be the obvious "Rock" act to get. Arcade Fire has only played one area date since releasing Everything Now so this could also be an opportunity to get them.
they are def getting one if Drake, Kendrick, or Kanye. I also imagine they'll get one of Arcade Fire, The Killers, Muse, or Mumford & Sons. I mean if I throw enough names around I'll get something right.

Pearl Jam • Drake • Mumford & Sons
If Founders gets PJ it'll be for Gov Ball. PJ aren't playing a stadium parking lot when they could play their own show inside the stadium

I made this same point last year with Gorillaz and was wrong. I get that PJ is bigger but don't think you can rule it out...the parking lot hasn't stopped The Meadows from getting some pretty big names.

The second point was more of a joke, although PJ do have an affinity for baseball parks.
But Pearl Jam have been Founders' white whale since they started Gov Ball, so I just wouldn't think they'd throw them on their mostly hip-hop oriented 2nd festival
The Killers, Muse, Arcade Fire all seem like contenders. I'll also agree that no way Pearl Jam would headline this festival if they're trying to do their own shows at Citi Field or Yankee Stadium. Truth be told, they could easily do MetLife but I guess they aren't interested in playing places THAT big.
I would not be surprised if there were no rock/alt headliner at all this year.
That would be sad. Last year seemed underattended but I didn't think too much rock was the problem. RHCP, Foster, Weezer and Gorillaz were all pretty packed sets.
Time for me to walk back a bit because Pearl Jam's lack of NYC dates + ending in Boston early September makes it seem possible they'd play here. Would still be a kind of weird move on Founders' part

Pearl Jam would be great counter-programming opposite Cardi B.

Why do you say that? As others have indicated, acts like RHCP and Weezer seemed like big draws last year. It was the mid-card indie rock bands that struggled (but were amazing none the less). Is it a strategic shift, or do you just think there won't be many good options in that category?
Just glad to hear it's coming back at all honestly. It seemed like free tickets were everywhere and it was still pretty empty most days until the headliners (Sunday being the exception).

I guess it makes it a bit more likely but it could also just be that Eddie really likes Fenway and Wrigley.

You're telling me the Citi Field parking lot doesn't have the same historical mystique?

Founders: "Hey Eddie, want to play at our event at CitiField?" Vedder: "Fuck yeah, I love ballparks." *signs contract* Founders: "Haha PSYCH you're playing outside in the parking lot!"
