Soooo, one interesting development from today's GovBall AMA: They're looking at multiple possible venues for The Meadows 2018, and all of them are on grass.
They also confirmed that Pearl Jam isn't playing... Although thats just what they would say if Pearl Jam were playing
Yeah they also said they were at the top of their wish list. Pearl Jam confirmed.
Even though it probably won't happen, this year really seems to make the most sense. Its surprising Pearl Jam is only playing Boston, Chicago, and Seattle. Seems like they could've added Citifield to that tour if they had the desire to. Very odd for them to skip New York entirely.

I dunno - I don't think they have any sort of connection to New York the way they do to Seattle or Chicago, or a connection to any venue here like the one they have with Fenway.
I do wonder if they'll ever play a NYC festival, considering they can sell out the Garden or Barclays in a second.
Genuinely surprised Jacke White is playing partially unopposed. I know he'll have a good crowd but don't think he'll have THAT big of a draw given the way festival audiences are trending.

Wrong NY fest. But I will answer by saying Jack is a draw, until hes not a draw. When he gets booked to headline a fest and plays to an empty field like LCD, Arcade Fire, or Phoenix have; then we'll know having him play unopposed is a bad idea.

To bring it back to the Meadows, I wonder if they'll announce the lineup before Gov Ball happens. Main reason is that otherwise they have to announce it 3 months out which is a short turnaround time to filll a big festival.

Lineup hints came out in late March and it dropped first week of May last year.
I think a lot of when it comes out will be determined by when they figure out where its going to be this year. Seems like they are set on not running the Citi Field lot again.

I'm so very curious as to where they could put this thing that would make sense. I mean, Randall's is always an option, I suppose, but I can't imagine they're going to want to do it there. I'd be really surprised if they've cracked Corona Park. So, what does that leave that's accessible and could handle a festival of this scale?

I think if they're leaving Citi Field, it's because they want Greenspace.
• Ideal: Corona Park / Prospect Park / Central Park: These would be perfect since they are huge, pretty, and are easy to get to. I just don't know the deal with getting the city on board / noise ordinances / curfews.
• Maybe?: Riverside Park / Battery Park / Morningside Park: All convenient and green, but all probably too small for a festival this size.
• Ugh: Randall's Island: No one wants to go back to Randall's Island for anotherrrr festival.

Governors Island is another location. Thats where the first Gov Ball was held (hence the name of the fest). It would have to be a smaller event if they ran there though. Also probably a little more annoying for most to get to.
I don't really see Randall's as an "ugh." I'd rather have another fest at Randalls Island than go back to Citi Field to be honest. I loved their set up there, but I hated 3 days on black top.

I can't see any way this could be in Central Park. One of the big things that supposedly kept the city from approving Corona Park was that it's very much used by the general public, so cutting off a big chunk of it for three days would be disruptive to the community. I have to imagine there'd be even more resistance on that level for Central Park.
Van Cortlandt, maybe? I used to play in rugby tournaments up there. But it'd be even harder to get people to the Bronx than it is to Randall's or Flushing Meadows.

I'm stumped.
Dyker Heights Golf Course or Forest Park Golf Course could be interesting. Both in the city, have tons of green space, and wouldn't disrupt the community. That new festival in Colorado is on a Golf Course too.
I'm going to make an early prediction that the X Ambassadors will be a part of this lineup. Their breezy alt-rock would be a good fit for this fest. Also would be cool if Beach House and Courtney Barnett were there.
Seems like the just announced shows are meant to be intimate album release shows in advance of a full tour. MHOW sold out in minutes.
Bowery Presents/AEG produced show though. But we'll see. Who knows what her deal for that was.
Ahh yeah wasn't thinking of that. I'm predicting 2 nights at BK Steel or maybe Prospect Park or Summerstage. Would be the right kind of rock act for Meadows though

I am hoping for A$AP Rocky. That track he put out with Tom Morello in December was great. New album should be really cool too. He came very close to taking the James Blake spot on Gov Ball from what I hear. But it didn't work out. Maybe they nab him for this.

Rocky is listed as a headliner at Primavera Porto this year. I wonder if he could headline The Meadows, in a similar manner how Founders is taking a chance with Travis Scott at GovBall.

I think he falls more into the Future slot from last year. But with how weak the US Festival pool is this year you never know.
Barnett's got that May date at MHOW that might count her out. I'd be into it though.
That show just popped up and went on sale out NOWHERE. Woke up and tried to buy tickets but it was already gone. Two day gap before it so I imagine another date will be added. Nonetheless, I think it's an underplay and her proper tour will probably put her in Prospect Park or 2x Brooklyn Steel.

What's the biggest headlining show he's played in the area? Not sure of how big he is.
