I second the call for Missy, and would love to see a set from The Lox (or a fuller Ruff Ryders reunion if they ever get their shit together). If N.E.R.D.are really getting back on the road, that would be another cool addition.
As for the setting, I liked the location and loved the in-the-round staging, but if they want to keep it in a parking lot, they need to add significant amounts of shade and some sort of grass or additional seating areas. 80 degrees on the blacktop felt sweltering and if you didn't have VIP, there was very little relief.
I can't do a third Randall's island festival... But I also am over the parking lot. I'm betting they leave it where it is unless there's a miracle and the city decides to let them use the park

Please no more blacktop. It just hurts the atmosphere so much - especially in respect to the smaller shows. I'd prefer Randall's or if it's going to stay here move it back to last weekend in September so it's not baking hot.
They set the bar pretty high with headliners this year and still struggled to move tickets so if they are intent on keeping this 3 days they'll need to book another massive lineup. Something like Kendrick ~ Kanye ~ Black Keys or Foo Fighters. In any event i'll be waiting to buy a pass when the secondary market drops.
Fine with the location. Equally as much of a pain in the ass to get to as Randalls Island and I've been seeing shows in parking lots since I was 13 so the blacktop doesn't bother me. I did notice that there were extremely long lines for food, bar and bathrooms. Maybe put in some additional portable shitters? Additionally, perhaps there should be water-only concessions so people dying of heat aren't waiting behind drunk people ordering booze.
I'm wondering if this fest goes full on hip hop/EDM next year like Made In America does since, aside from a few, all the alt/indie acts play to small crowds.
Best case scenario to establish those sales one last time? (obviously just hoping to see Bey make a fest stop on each coast - though GovBall would probably be more likely).

I know they came through Barclays last year, but another Bad Boy Reunion would be dope. Or maybe just Diddy. Sub(s) in today's landscape, maybe (probably?) Either way, I think it would be cool as hell. Dipset in Migos' slot. 50 in Nas'. Maxwell in Badu or Future's slot. Princess Nokia early in the day. SBTRKT at Shea stage.
For some reason I can't describe I don't see this as a Randall's fest; I think it's perfect in Queens. As much as I would love to see this move to Corona Park the lot hasn't worn on me too much so it's not a dealbreaker plus their stage setup, as many have noted, is great. Would still love to see some kind of environment though as the art and atmosphere is definitely lacking. The lot constraints definitely contributed to those lines for the bathroom, imo.
Anyway, Disclosure - Rihanna - (rock act with mass appeal?)

There are free water dispensing stations which should serve that purpose. Unfortunately yesterday was the first really well attended day of the fest, and there clearly weren't enough for when this fest is actually somewhat full.
Similarly, I don't think the vendors were ready for the uptick in business yesterday, so they were understaffed and understocked at points. The fact that most people weren't willing to walk to vendors and portas near non-active stages to escape the lines surely didn't help either.
To your last point, I really hope they don't lean heavier into EDM. That would really ruin the mix of music and demographics that set this weekend apart for me. Also, Meadows been scheduled right on the heels of Electric Zoo, and I doubt they want to jostle for all those bookings.
I think that this is going to be a difficult fest to predict over a year out. The type of artists that will be high up on here are ones that we probably dont even know are creating an album right now just like Jay Z and Gorillaz this year. I think the festival circuit types: Kendrick, Foo, Chainsmokers, will sooner be at Gov Ball or Pano (Foo), than at Meadows.

Yeah, I noticed insanely long lines for food. They also ran out of whiskey and bourbon in the VIP area which was irritating (extreme "first world problem" but still irritating haha). Maybe not leaning into EDM persay but I have a feeling it will skew more pop/hip hop than Gov Ball.

I think it's time for this to stop calling itself a music AND ARTS festival. Spray painting dumpsters and setting up those blow-ups they have at car dealerships doesn't quite qualify.

The artist who "spraypainted the dumpsters" is Greg Mike. Really talented guy. He has created street art murals in several countries, owns his own gallery in Atlanta, and has won several awards. Did a great job. They were lucky to get him.

I'm totally fine with them keeping it in the parking lot as long as they make the effort to take some steps to deal with the fact that it's a parking lot. There's no reason they couldn't create more places for people to take a load off, and/or lay down some turf, and/or put up cabanas or some form of artificial shade throughout the grounds. I certainly made those suggestions fairly strongly in my survey reply. Of course, if they moved it to a park, I wouldn't object, either.
I mean, ultimately, my attendance next year, as it is with any festival, will wholly be dependent on the lineup. I didn't attend the Meadows last year because the lack of diversity in terms of genre, and because the hip-hop artists they did book didn't appeal to me (if I never see Kanye's name on a bill, again, it'll be too soon...don't @ me). I'm hopeful they'll see this year as a success, overall, despite not selling out, and will continue with the interesting curation across different styles of music, even if they do keep a hip-hop focus.

They may put a couple more of those turfed wedges out, but I bet we never see more than that.
Do we know for sure this is coming back next year? If we get one "rock" headliner, I think The Black Keys would be a fit.
When Meadows already has a problem not getting enough people excited, the Black Keys might rank in the top 5 worst headliner options they could choose.

Judging by the size of the Chili Peppers crowd, don't think the Black Keys would be a bad option. Perfect general-interest rock band for that event.

RHCP have arguably the biggest collection of bonafide hits of any rock band after 1980 and have been radio staples for decades. Even if they're well past their prime, it's not really a fair comparison. The Black Keys can't even pretend to be interested in their own music anymore

Dan Auerbach trying to pay for his divorce? Like idk

Foo Fighters and Green Day, I think, probably can rival them in terms of hit songs. Speaking of, I really wish Green Day was at the Meadows and RHCP played Global Citizen's Festival.
