I think they want it because Panorama/Goldenvoice want it. My best guess is that Founders thinks securing Corona Park for the Meadows is what will finally rid them of Panorama.
I doubt this is true. Theres no reason why only one group would get it and not both. They both have Randall's right now. Hell, AEG/Goldenvoice actually HAS a permit for a concert at Corona Park this year with Paul Simon
The city is giving out permits for Corona Park now. The problem is its insanely expensive, and they are presently unwilling to give out permits for multiple days.

my point is that if they decided to give out a permit for multiple days theres no reason to think it would be an exclusive thing, and AEG would be able to get one too

Presently they dont want to give up the park for multiple days at a time. I think giving up the park for multiple days at a time, more than once out of the year, is another hill to climb.. But I think its looking like only one fest is going to do it anyway. Time will tell.

We will see how this Paul Simon show goes, but I really dont get this fascination over Corona Park
There aren't a ton of majority-grass, easily-accessible-by-public-transportation places in the city that could even feasibly accommodate a multi-day festival on the scale we're talking about. Central Park is kind of out of the question. Randall's is great for what it is, but has its issues (accessibility being the main one) and is already in use quite a bit. What else does that leave?

It's unfortunate because I loved both iterations of The Meadows.
I really thought lining the whole venue with Turf (and advertising it as such) would be a great option. The layout and access to the festival is top notch. But I did feel last year for acts like Sky Ferreira who played in front of a few hundred people last year, as it can't be easy to see a small, mildly interested crowd and nothing but parking spaces behind it.
I know some disagree, but the NYC music scene is better with more festivals, and Founders and Goldenvoice (despite this years mostly unavoidable hiccups) both have gotten really good at putting them on. In a perfect world, next year Founders gets Corona Park in September for a big Meadows 2019. And Panorama (or whatever they want to rebrand it as) finds it's groove as a 2-3 day 20-30k Pitchfork-esqe fest on Randall's/Liberty/whereeverelsetheycanfind.
I remember watching BSS on the stream and being bummed for their crowd.
It was a small crowd, and no mistake. But I had a blast at that set. Special shout-out to the girl with the Polaroid who took and gave to me probably the happiest-looking photograph of me ever captured.
The Throne for Meadows 2019 because hey, Jay didn't sign that 10 year deal with Live Nation for nothing
Jay Z wouldn’t touch Kanye with a ten foot pole right now and I think it would take a lot on kanye’s side to make this happen. Which would require doing stuff I can’t imsgine him doing, like apologizing
Y’all really think Kanye is playing concerts anytime soon?
Kanye has stated before that performing is a big part of his livelihood. Though I question whether he can easily get insurance for future shows, given how the Saint Pablo tour went down.

See I get that, but mentally... I don’t think he’s able to handle it right now

Not that it matters much anymore, but after seeing the Fall tours unfold I feel like the Top 6 for this would have shaped out looking like this:
Kids See Ghosts (Kanye West + Kid Cudi) • Mumford & Sons • Nicki Minaj Vampire Weekend • A$AP Rocky • Interpol
I doubt Nicki headlines given how poorly her tour sold. Even in NYC she sold like 5k tickets for Barclays.
For sure. Like you said, there is no way she headlines any big festival like this. Lana Del Rey would be a good option IMO. She’s got a new album coming out next year and I like the two singles she’s released so far.

I went to Paul Simon at Corona Park Saturday and it may have been a bit of a stress test for future music festivals there. The concert itself was right by the unisphere, which is about a 15 min walk from the trains. Given the show was presented by AEG I believe I believe, the same food booths from Panorama were used (same font and wicker stands, twisted potatoes) Those lines were astonishingly long. It also appeared that inventory was low almost right away. They did have people walking around with water and beer like a stadium event, which was a good touch - but most vendors ran through inventory super fast once they went out into the field. With there only being one stage, it was hard to tell how a multi-stage festival would be handled, but hopefully this at least proved to City Officials that a paid event could he held there.

Yeah, I had that on my mind Saturday night while attending that show, as well. I'm not sure how the park would handle a multi-stage setup, but for a one-off, it was pretty good, barring the food vendor lines, which were absurd (although you could walk right up to the beer and wine tents). Getting out at the end was also relatively painless - it was a bit of a hike to the train, but once we got there, it was easy peasy.
The one thing I did notice is that there were still lots of non-concert-goers using other fields in the park, including families and the like. I seem to recall disruption of community use being one of the issues the city had with holding a multi-day festival at Corona, and I could certainly see that being an issue with an event with a bigger footprint and multiple days.
I can totally see why more than one company wants to launch a festival there - easy access, really nice surroundings, walking by the unisphere on the way in is really cool. But I can't imagine that particular event is going to change a lot of minds in the city government about needing to plop a 3-day, drug-fueled bacchanal down in a much-used city park.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but has there been any indication whatsoever that this is happening in 2019? Other than that last IG post saying their goal was to return?
