Security: For years now, those gates have been a necessary evil. It was nerve-racking and invasive. This year it was actually okay. Metal detectors are in place, and we weren't patted down. The security people didn't look miserable. They were very friendly and helpful. There was a red rover line of police officers that we had to walk through to scan our wristbands; but, compared to previous years, it was easy-peasey. HUGE IMPROVEMENT.
Layout: The fest grounds are smaller, but we never felt crowded. There are also more places to relax throughout the grounds. Beach access was very easy. I really enjoyed the new layout.
Ticket price: The GA 2019 loyalty ticket price is $220. The GA 2018 loyalty ticket price was $239.
Drinks: No dedicated craft beer tent. Only Corona or XX. We heard rumors of Good People being available at one of the tents, but we couldn't find it. We adapted by getting the party bags of gin and tonics from the Hangout bar. I highly recommend the party bag.
Food: The Gulf Coastal Seafood tent (or whatever it was called) wasn't there. There also didn't seem to be as many food truck options, but I could be mistaken on that. For us, the Asian food tent saved the day. They were very accommodating and would pile on the veggies and/or mix and match items. As always, Spicy Pie was on point.
These are very interesting notes. Thanks. A festival dropping the price of anything for year ten is compelling, if not fascinating. Sounds like there will be some sort of shift. Color me intrigued. Did you catch Poolside by chance?
Thanks. No, we missed Poolside. We planned to see them Saturday afternoon at the Beach Stage, but we didn't get to the fest early enough.

So I’m late getting post but to not be as excited as normal as i had been still had a great time at Hangout Fest again this past year. Saw some pretty good acts that i enjoyed and some i went with for friends wanting to see but still had fun. The Killers and Kendrick were great as always to me. Chainsmokers still should not take a headlining spot...but will say but on a fun show. Also Portugal the Man were so awesome! So was the rapper NF really enjoyed him a ton!! Manchester Orchestra were great other then the bs Logic sound bleed coming over. Saw lovelytheband, zedd, the green, Halsey, Greta van fleet, foster the people, and a little bit of Odesza.
...i thought poolside was pretty enjoyable, dj and band...i wouldn't rate them as high as Parcels i saw a couple weeks earlier, but they're in that club. Agree that PtM killed it and really enjoyed the surprise jam show from Roots of a creation. I had to leave Sunday a.m. so missed Slightly Stoopid and the rest.
I liked all of the layout changes i noticed.
Easily my least favorite lineup and still had a great weekend.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Yeah solidrock really loved the new layouts me and the crew talked about that a lot also thinking about finally going the vip route next year and hope for the best with the whole 10 year thing which is crazy it’s already been 10 years. O also forgot to tell y’all before Hangout Fest months ago had bought tix to Big Boi in pcola for the Monday night after hangout fest and what an awesome show!! Also got to meet, get pics, and have a vinyl signed by him. One of the the coolest and nicest guys ever got to meet Sleepy Brown too who was his hype man for the top and also so cool. Told them about seeing Outkast and Big Grams at Hangout Fest was so cool to see how excited he got that i had.
Favorites: St. Vincent – She looked incredible. The band looked incredible. They played with precision, and were probably perfect, but the sound in the Boom Boom tent was a bit off. When she shredded her guitar, it was absolutely phenomenal. 8/10. If the sound was better, this would have been a 10/10 show.
Grouplove – This was probably the best show of the fest for me. The sound was great, and they totally committed to the performance. It was such a bouncy, happy time.
Ron Gallo – Ha! He was great. He was dressed like a pre-schooler and was rocking it the quack out. But dude, we were in the wrong state of mind to appreciate his smart, snarky punk rock. We noped out of there when he started singing about our Happy Death Day. He was great...we weren't.
Anderson. Paak & The Nationals – SO GOOD!
Big Boi w/Sleepy Brown – They came in and handled it like Pros. Big Boi joked about being a substitute teacher. He did some solo stuff, but it seemed like it was mostly OutKast hits. The whole beach was shaking ass during GhettoMusick.
Portugal. The Man. – We didn’t stay for long, but it was really, really good. We’ve seen them several times, so we left to see Ron Gallo.
Kendrick Lamar – I’m glad I finally got to see Kendrick.
Honorable Mentions:
Tash Sultana – She has such raw talent, and I really liked her stage presence. There were some stand-out moments in her show, and I definitely want to check her out again.
The Struts – Solid performance, and so nice on the beach.
Greta Van Fleet – We only caught about 10 mins of their set. They had a good show at Shaky Knees, and they sounded just as good at HOF.
Other acts we saw:
Zedd – After leaving Ron Gallo, we wandered around for a bit, and headed to the Surf Stage for whatever, which happened to be Zedd. Which was fine, ‘cause we need some dumb, super-duper dance party fun. The best thing about that show was the dancing hot dog on the video screen. I really liked that hot dog.
The Killers – The Killers were doing what The Killers do. The show was polished and professional, but then we remembered that we had some good cheese and crackers at the rental house, so we left.
We missed, but wanted to see: Bones, Pussy Riot, Caroline Rose, Son Little, Poolside, Tank and The Bangas
...the reason for the last 5 yrs and why it's a crap shoot
Centanni: What goes into selecting the artists?
O’Connell: This is my fifth year choosing the talent. I don’t have a formula, to be honest. I want to program music that’s incredibly meaningful and in the moment and incredible live. You look at an artist like Tash Sultana, who is coming from Australia, one of the best performers out there. The fact that she will be on one of our stages is so exciting. Then, we look back last summer and look far out and say, “We believe that acts like NF and AJR and Greta Van Fleet are really going to be bands that have really big moments.” That certainly goes into it. Obviously, we face a lot of challenges as far as where our artists are in the country during Hangout Festival or whether they’re touring at the time. Sometimes, artists aren’t available because they’re not on an album cycle or on tour. We always have a wish list that starts with what I want on it. Then it evolves and become very exciting as it comes together. Then you’ll hear a record like St. Vincent put out. It just felt important that she be on this time. With other things like our Sunset Stage, we felt that reggae should be represented. That’s been in the works for a long time. There is a balance to it. We do take great effort to make sure that at any one time, if you’re not a hip-hop fan, then there’s great rock acts playing. If you’re not an electronic fan, then you have alternative. There’s always three flows, if you will, of music that’s going on at any one time. Your day is full. If you don’t know every band, that’s okay. What we hear from our fans is that people get really turned on to a lot of new stuff that they didn’t know. That’ll be true this year. I think this is the deepest lineup that we’ve ever had.
With a good undercard, a small chance I'd go. (I will have seen the above headliners already this year)
This is what I’m guessing except with Muse in Arctic Monkeys slot.
Muse - Childish Gambino - Florence + the Machine
That would be fucking awesome tbh. I wouldn't get my hopes up for that at all. I'm actually thinking Coachella is gonna have Gambino with either Flo/AM and then a big heavy hitter HLer. I could see Gambino being a crossover given the demographic though. I don't think you could ask for much more from Hangout than that top 3 given the recent lineups.
for variety and quality of the acts 2014 was easily the deepest lineup
lolwut
Guess you weren't at Hangout 2011!
nope started in 13. but i feel like 14 touched the most genres even looking at the ones prior. Personally, OutKast is my favorite HL they ever had too.

Guess you weren't at Hangout 2011!
Easily the best year of the entire Hangout series. Double dose of Basslights. Was looking at my T-shirt the other day, and on either side of the guitar, so stacked....
Just dropping in because I heard the rumor that 2018 was the last Hangout. But I see that they were selling loyalty tickets so therefore the rumors must not be true?
I missed it this year due to a wedding but I ain't missing it next year! Even if Imagine Dragons a headliner.
