Justin Vernon has been handing out names for this on Twitter pretty regularly. Noname, serpent with feet, big red machine (?), Sufjan, “potentially” Arcade Fire and a bunch of others if you go further back
Awesome.
Big Red Machine is the collaboration between Vernon and Aaron Dessner. They played new music last year so that makes sense. Sufjan played EXC1 in 2015 so a return to the lineup is nice. Arcade Fire would finally make sense since a couple AF members have appeared most years. Also saw Francis and the Lights should be there in some form as well.

This was from last year. Is there any indication that this festival will have another Planetarium performance?
Someone asked Vernon on Twitter if we would get a planetarium album performance and he gave a 😉. With Sufjan being there this year, it’s seems likely / possible

Thanks, that's interesting... I saw Planetarium live last year and while it was solid, the musicians weren't as prepared for it as they could have been. You'd hope that they'd be better rehearsed this time for what's presumably a one-off show.
I’m gonna try to make this happen. Can someone explain the logistics of this fest on how to do it on a budget/how to make the most of it
I’ve gone 2 of 3 years and plan to go again this year. I’ve always camped so I’m not really familiar with staying in a hotel / dorm, but they do a really good job of busing people to the music location from various places. The campsite is about a 4 minutes bus ride to the “centeroo” but you never have to wait for a bus and can drink on the bus. The stages are all in a fairly confined space so once you are at the stages, it’s super easy to move around and get to the shows you want to. Their two “big” stages basically face each other in a big field and rotate sets so it’s easy to see all the big artists perform. The smaller stages are all sprinkled really closely to the big stages. Lots of art instillations and things close by all the stages.
The camping is all tree covered for nice shade. Weather in July could be hot and humid but it’s usually comfortable. It has rained the 2 years I’ve been so bring rain gear, boots especially since it gets muddy.
I normally arrive midday Thursday to get a decent camping spot and have never really had an issue getting in or dealing with long lines. They do e-tickets so you basically need your cellphone to get your wristbands.
Finally got around to purchasing my ticket today. I Will be camping by again. Anyone else planning to attend this year?
I'm new to posting here but have been a long time lurker. I'm definitely thinking about it, unless Pitchfork really surprises me with something. I've never been though and have wanted to every year.
Yeah I meant to ask earlier what people made of this one
He's so cryptic, but I took it at face value: that they were looking at spots on the schedule (two stages in particular or maybe the pre-party), and it's looking pretty full. Maybe adding another stage? Or just a nod to what they booked this year. There appears to be one more 1/3 video to come. And, we all want to be in Sharon Van Etten's band.

I got bored this morning at work so I put together a quasi-lineup poster with the artists that have been confirmed or largely expected / hinted at. I didn’t want to go through and try to order all of the artists properly so I put most of them alphabetically. Patti Smith is the only artist of the “top 4” that I would truly consider “questionable”. I also didn’t include any Bon Iver type set since we don’t have a great idea of what Vernon’s plans are yet.
Would think S. Carey could be back. Also Poliça and S T A R G A Z E put out a record together and would be a great collab set
If I recall, S. Carey was an artist-in-residence last year so he’s probable but I haven’t seen any hint about him yet. Police / S T A R G A Z E performed last year, and I believe on Reddit, Polica is listed as “out” so it seems unlikely for a repeat (although that would be amazing).

Do you think they are going to continue to drib and drab it out and post weird videos and confirm acts on Twitter, or do you think we'll see an actual poster in March? I think there are four of us 95% in, but it may depend on what Pitchfork does over the next two weeks to decide for sure. I thought Justin Vernon was joking at first about the whole surprise idea on Twitter, but now I'm not so sure.

I would absolutely love this, and it would get us there for the first time ever, but I would be pretty heartbroken without an official/proper Bon Iver set. That's just me though. I love the National and Sufjan, but Bon Iver takes the cake for me.

Bon Iver: 2015: “standard” show 2016: 22, A Million Release show 2017: Music of John Prine 2018: ?
It’s hard to believe that Bon Iver wouldn’t have a set of some sort this year considering they’ve been listed all three years previously. Whether it’s actual Bon Iver Music or some sort of tribute, who knows.
But considering they seem to be sticking with the “no lineup release” so far, I think people that are “blindly” attending without an official lineup would be disappointed with no Bon Iver set.
If I had to guess, the most likely option would be a Bon Iver + Tu Dance show as that seems to be what Vernon is currently working on with shows already planned.
I would suggest taking the leap and going. At a minimum, you’ll get to see Vernon in multiple versions, plus a lot of cool one-time collaborations and unique sets you will never have the chance seeing anywhere else.

Thanks, that's a helpful nudge/suggestion and info. I'm almost certain we're going to go, my partner just has summer classes to figure out and it's a 12 hour nonstop drive from Pittsburgh, so now we're just trying to figure out logistics. I've been wanting to go since it's inception and now that our Roo group has dissolved and lost interest, it's more of a realistic possibility.

This is basically my exact situation. Except sub in NYC and DC for Pittsburgh. My brother's going to be in Chicago for the 4th of July though, so the timing sort of works out
