You in the know joyrider or talk to some of the people there?
Checking in from Austin and enough in the know to not get my hopes up for this year. Last I heard from a reliable agent friend is that the whole fest was up in the air. Could be that they haven't secured funding yet but this late in the game, not holding my breath. Shame since the last two years have been some of the best festival experiences I've ever had.

16 and 17 were unique festival experiences for sure. I remember seeing Day for Night in the overrated by Inforoo thread a few months ago, but I never thought it was overrated. We saw some phenomenal art and music, but there were various negative issues too that we appropriately criticized. Even still, I doubt many people who went wouldn’t have gone back for more. Even though it’s not posh, and it’s dark and dank and industrial, it filled a hole and brought excitement and sensory assault. It would suck if they don’t do it this year, but if a temporary suspension is explainable, and they said they’d be back in 19, I’d commit to going back. I will hopefully be seeing 50 more sets or so this year, so I’m not lacking for musical entertainment. But it would definitely be a drag if I wasn’t able to challenge myself with a roster where I’ve maybe only seen 7 or 8 of the acts and probably heard only half.
Being up in the air with like 4 3/4 months to go isn’t a good sign. Hopefully they will make some kind of announcement soon. :/

For what its worth: I know industry people who were surprised this was even coming back last year; and I also know last year they still didn't make any money with it.
I will certainly be bummed if this festival is dead and buried. I've been to all the big ones at this point and can honestly say that D4N was far and away the coolest and most unique festival experience I've ever had. Also helps that they crushed the lineup last year IMO. My buddies all agreed we are going back this year regardless of lineup, that's how much we enjoyed it.
That said whoever thought it would be a good idea to have this thing a week before Christmas is insane. People are traveling a week later, or recently did for Thanksgiving or will be for NYE. It's just piss poor timing for a festival.
Move the thing to February and tickets will sell much better.

February would be good but it's also the coldest month in Texas. It's a possibility it'll be warm (as the past 2 D4N's have been) and the fact that Texas is crazy irregular when it comes to cool wetaher but there's a reason no festivals touch January and February in Texas. It'll also right be before SXSW which will be tough to compete with and near impossible to route a tour since SXSW always takes precedence.
I’m not holding my breath for this to happen but I went through their twitter history and they didn’t start teasing anything until August last year. Though I guess we knew the dates already because of the presale.

So are you alluding that December is the only time that really works? I have to think that a conflict with another festival is better than a week before christmas. March/April perhaps?
I mean, In Bloom (FKA Free Press Summerfest) is in March now.
I would think In Bloom is more if a deterrent than SXSW these days. Sx isnt gobbling major headliners and rarities like it used to and generally normal fest goers don't seem to hit this up.
Maybe November would be better since FFF/SOS is gone (still sad about that). Or just bump it to early december?

I mentioned this last week, and the lineup has never come out earlier than mid September. I ain't worried until we're in mid August and still no signs of nuthin'.
BUT NO DATES THO

What about the two people that actually have sources telling us they haven't even reached out to book anyone yet.

have you looked at WME's roster? is they haven't contacted them, who they booked a bunch of people from in the past, they haven't contacted anyone imo.

This seems pretty damning but we also have multiple sources saying it’s happening.
Who are the reputable sources saying it's happening?
Omar himself said it's happening a month ago.
I don't think they've given up on trying to make it happen but it just doesn't look good.
Omar on Reddit? Was it ever confirmed that was his legit account? Even if it was, I can't see him confirming its ending before the festival made an official announcement.

never confirmed it was omar on reddit, but this did happen on the day4night insta, fwiw:
having said that, assuming they are seeking financing, that process can go from "looking good" to "sorry we aren't giving you money" in a second.
