I just appreciate the effort of someone going all in on an act like Aphex Twin as opposed to just floating the boat with Incubus.
Dayfornight was unlike any other event in this state.
I really appreciate that they booked Aphex Twin but even at the time it was pretty obvious that it was terrible financial decision.
I was pretty satisfied with the whole transaction/product. It's their job to find a way to pay the bills. An event like this in Houston was never bound to move a ton of tickets.
edit: seems like its typical for these events to struggle before ever coming out ahead, this dude's bad finances aside. It was able to actually put Houston on the map as a scene outside of Southern rap, touring rock, and country. People from outside the state were literally making this an annual trip and we were getting bills unlike anything we had ever seen locally.

Hello you all, I just created this anonymous account just to say that I have confidential information from a very reliable source and I knew that Day 4 Night was not going to happen this year before these recent sexual assault allegations. The reason is simply because the dude, or rather, his company, is screwed (wanted to use the "f" word, but not sure I'm allowed in this forum), and has a debt of literally millions of dollars. This debt stems from last D4N's festivals, particularly the last one, which sold very poorly. A disaster would be a better way to put it. They thought that acts like NIN and Thom York would attract enough people, but that wasn't the case. Without going into details, just to book those two acts they had to spend well over a million dollars. So, I'm very sorry for all of you who were hoping the festival would survived. I personally enjoyed them very much. Houston still has other good festivals, and perhaps someone else will step in and fill the void that D4N is leaving.
That is all. Cheers!
Appreciate the insight!
Tbh, I appreciate what he was trying to do but I think time and place were a bit against him in the first place. Like sure there is a market for this kind of music and art but not at the end of December in Houston, Texas. But maybe I'm underestimating Houston because they got Levitation aswell there so..
Any insight on what that Facebook post meant with the question what kind of artists people wanted to have at D4N? Why would you post something like that if you already know you're not gonna make it another year?
Just curious, since we are a website that "few people give a shit about" who did you find us?
I googled "omar afra sexual". and searched for posts published during the past 24 hours, and the only link shown was for this forum.
Now that you're here, what do you think of the thread title? Poor taste?
As far as those of you saying Houston isn't hip enough to support a festival like this, have you been paying attention to all of the other festivals that are failing, like the ones in Los Angeles and New York? Three great festivals (including Levitation Bing) in Austin have gone under in the last few years.
Omar Afra has starting responding to these allegations on a public post made by Amanda Hart. I'll post a link to that post, although, I'm not sure if the rules for this forum go against posting links to Facebook:

Dude seems pretty desperate at this point and if everything else in his life is falling apart then maybe just holding onto some semblance of normality?

I'm not sure what Facebook post you're referring to. I haven't been on FB too much this year, and I don't think I follow the festival's FB page, so I probably haven't even seen it.

I didn't really think too much about the title of the thread. To me it was more a case of reporting what is happening rather than try to spread hurtful rumors. I think Houston can support good festivals, and it's done so for almost a decade. I won't say that the local music scene in Houston is the best either, but that's topic for another thread.

I was thinking last night that if this festival was making money, it would survive. Plain and simple. We already knew it was probably treading water at-best financially, so we automatically knew this was a death knell.
If it came out that Perry Ferrell did some bad shit, they'd still have Lollapalooza. It's like in sports where if you win, you can literally get away with murder and still play, but if you suck, suddenly everyone takes a moral stand.
Someone posting on FB as Samuel Houston is claiming to be Omar and refuting the claims.
Yeah, because Amanda blocked Omar, so he can't post from his own account. But since he's sharing what it seems to be private emails, it looks like this could be the case. Not saying that it can't someone trying to impersonate him, it could, but I'm not sure why would anyone do that.
Yeah both posts mentioned that their we're police reports filed. I do understand that charges being dropped doesn't necessarily mean innocence, but the timing seems odd to do it months after that. Maybe it's because the DfN account started being active ish again.
I still don't think anythings been expanded on the hacking thing, but there's really nothing outside of what's on Facebook.

“The creditors of Day For Night were shocked and saddened to hear of the allegations of sexual misconduct against Day For Night’s founder, Omar Afra. We stand with all victims of abuse.
The creditors have deemed it appropriate to foreclose on the entity which owns the festival, effectively removing Omar Afra from any ownership or involvement in Day For Night from this day forward. Out of respect for these alleged victims, any announcement about the future of Day For Night will be made at a later date.”

So a possibility it continues without him? Sounds good. Didnt work out for FYF who had a much bigger company backing. But if they are smart and really do want to continue, theyd go small to see if they still have an audience and rebuild from there. Like I probably would just book acts like Four Tet.

I thought I read on this site at some point they were like 250k
My insider told me they costed € 900k/1million to play here so I'd say, they cost atleast around a million (dollar) in the US.
Is that because there are so many of them? Because we could get a trimmed down version. Cut some of those yahoos in that back that just bang a tambourine.
