"Brian Eno has announced a massive new compilation of “new, rare, and previously unreleased tracks” called Music for Installations. As the title implies, the huge collection of music includes compositions that were debuted as part of art installations around the world in years past. It arrives May 4 via UMC. Music for Installations is also being issued on vinyl in a huge 9xLP box set, which comes with a 64-page book featuring “rare and unseen exhibition photographs and a new essay written by Eno.” The producer recently announced a double-A-side vinyl release with Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine."

Dekmantel 2017 and d4n 2017 shared: Nina Kraviz, Gas, Andy Stott, Forest Swords. So crossover is definitely likely!
that's what i was thinking. i've never been to Dekmantel, but it looks a lot like D4N would be if D4N only booked blue stage/yellow stage type artists and was way bigger.

I just want to take this time to point out how much I hate alphabetical line ups...
Any updates for D4N18? According to Google, prices dropped like 300 bucks for a back and forth plane ticket to Houston so eh.. That's fucking great?! If I can fly out for around 3/400 and get somewhere cheap to stay then I'm thinking about doing this lol.
Well I was wrong about them putting up pre-sale tickets after In Bloom Fest. The next checkpoint is this weekend - www.thegreattexasbbqfestival.com (which looks deliciously awesome and a solid little lineup) - produced also by Free Press Houston. Although with ACL due to post up tickets any day now the texas fest market is starting to saturate. Day For Night could wait even longer to reveal pre-sales.
all I do know is, it sucks to think that they don't release a lineup until September - feels like forever!!
I have a feeling they're not gonna do presale cuz they know they have the goods.
agreed. also a sign that maybe they don't need cash flow, which is good news for the longevity of the fest.
who buys blind presale? typically hardcore festival fans that will probably buy a full price ticket anyway.
Pretty much all of us. Rothric noted that last year that people were now just trusting them to provide a completely unique experience. You already know you'll be back. You know I'll be back. Probably 90% of us who went last year from here (and yeah, hardcore festival fans but still...) will be back again. I liked the idea of a blind presale for the $100. Maybe they take even a bigger step this year and just start out around $150 or so and thus are able to get even more expensive and/or obscure shit for us to enjoy. They sure earned my trust.
What festival doesn’t do presales? Why would this one stop?
I think he was saying that they might have needed the working capital the first couple of years to get it off the ground, deposits and shit. I'm sure they'll do early birds, but the presales the last couple of years were around the time of the actual festival. For the 2016 festival, they went on sale around the time of the 2015 festival and stayed up for a long time. For 2017's, they went on sale on the Friday of the festival 2016. We were still able to purchase them in January. They haven't said anything except not to worry because they'd be back this year. I missed year 1, but both 2016 and 2017's versions were highlights. All 8 of us who went last year (6 the year before) plan to return again.

Ah, I thought you guys were saying there wouldn't be any reduced tickets. I was planning on buying early.
Getting into festival semantics, I think presales don't really effect upfront capital. It costs millions to put this thing together and I imagine they only gather maybe 10s of thousands through presales.
What I think it does is assure their investors who are providing the upfront capital needed that there is indeed a demand and your investment is safe as they curate and produce the event.
Not having a presale may show the organizers and investors are confident in the product or as Pablo said "have the goods."
I think events ACL does presales just to keep hype and interest up. Obviously C3 and LN have the capital to throw that thing together.
Just throwing random musings out there since we have awhile to go.

I believe that Omar said last year's budget was around $6MM. Per capita (20,000 attendees +/-) would yield a break-even around $300/per attendee. Obviously that doesn't include sponsorship, endowments and shit that probably make up a substantial amount of the overhead and line items. But when they started with nothing, I'm sure it costed money up front to secure a short-term lease at Post-HTX, sound systems and whatever. But yeah, if they are financing with private capital, they would have needed to show demand early on to secure that financing. They know their formula will sell - mixture of obscure and popular acts with an emphasis on inclusiveness (race, gender and ethnicity) and heavily weighted toward emphasizing female performers along with visual art that people will seek out.
If we are right, and they simply don't need to do it to generate interim financing (be it working capital or upfront capital), then we should probably be expecting big things for the 2018 version - that's not to say that 2017 or 2016 weren't full of "big things" either. It's just that they must be confident a bunch of us mfers are hooked and willing to travel the weekend before Christmas to go there.
idk how the mini tour for MBV affects them being a possibility. Looks like their current slate wraps up in Japan in August, idk I'm not gonna hold my breath I guess.

seems like it depends on how those dates go. if they go well we might see some Fall U.S. dates. but yeah not holding my breath.

I put all my hopes on them playing Pitchfork and that worked out really well, so I'm going to choose to do the same thing again with this.
