sang_xcx, I feel like this game is gonna draw Venables a lot of interest. I know he's said he doesn't want to head coach, but those money trucks are gonna be big.

Ugh I am not a Jim Chaney fan. He was only at Pitt for a year, but I saw enough toss sweeps to the short side of the field to last a lifetime. Or at least I thought, until watching two years of Shawn Watson.

He had Peterman looking good though, right?
No, that was Matt Canada the next year. We were 68th in scoring offense with Chaney in 2015, then 10th the next year with Canada.

I saw Canada listed as a candidate at Georgia. That would be scary if they let him do his thing. I know LSU didn't let him do his thing so I'm not sure if Georgia would.

That would be a great hire. I am hearing more buzz about Gran or Coley personally, but hell if I know.

I was too caught up in the afterglow to answer this question. I don't think he's going anywhere any time soon. I'm sure he'll get another raise soon. Plus he promised his son he'd stay at Clemson until he's done, which is 3 more years and he has another kid in hs. Also he said he's had opportunities in the last couple of years to leave but he's not going anywhere that he's not going to win immediately. He's talked to Arkansas, Miss St and Tex Tech that I know of. So he has very high standards. Where would he even go where that could happen? Auburn? Oklahoma or Texas if those guys left? I'm start to worry more about the NFL coming calling with a DC job. I haven't heard anything at all like that, but why wouldn't they?

The NFL is a possibility. I think the way that Alabama's offense was stopped and the team was beaten at levels that haven't happened under Saban is going to get all of the coaching in the limelight. With iffy prospects like Kingsbury and Gase getting head coaching jobs, it definitely would not be unreasonable to think that a team would approach Venables with a contract Clemson would have a hard time matching. You never know though. There are people that money cannot sway. I think Clemson will find out if Venables is one of those people within the next year or so.
