Is this festival going to sell well at all? There are lots of fests at which to see Eminem that aren't in the middle of nowhere Tennessee. Muse and the Killers have played every other festival already it seems.
Last year was U2's only festival and also had The Weeknd and Chance whom millennials love. Who are the younger fans going to be excited to drive to Manchester to see on this lineup?
I know I'm getting old, but I don't think there's ever been an act as high as line 5 that I've literally never heard of (Virtual Self) nor have I ever only known one act (Alex Lahey) in the bottom...12 to 13 lines of the fest.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong put on a really good show. Has to be a highlight of the bottom part, though I really can't say for sure since I don't know any of them.

This. I mean 2017 was shitty for most of our tastes but it did do wonders for the millennial crowd, I heard 65k sold last year. 2016 sold 45k, right? This one might sell even less than 2016 considering they were lucky to sell 45k that year based on reputation. How many tickets are they going to sell with a shitty lineup and a reputation that is in tatters?

Eh, I'd say 2016 was pretty bad save for the Top 3. I had a good time, but it was rough. Just hoping this year doesn't end up with loads of conflicts between the best undercard acts (it's gonna happen).
LCD, Tame, Bob Moses, M83, Pearl Jam, The Dead, Cymande, Dungen, Death Cab, FIDLAR, Ween, Vince Staples, Kamasi Washington, Lizzo, Charles Bradley, Band of Horses, Natalie Prass, Father John Misty, Lane 8... I actually thought 16 was significantly better than 2017.
I think Roo peaked with 13 and 14 then dropped due to headliners and a little less beef in the middle in 15, then fell from grace in 16 to just simply be on par with Lolla and ACL, then last year it moved into complete joke territory.
Seeing the line-ups stacked in the headliner thread, 2017 is still abysmal and easily the worst of the last 3 years. Even a few people from that year like Margo Price and Kevin Morby, who I didn't know about back then, can't make that thing look any better. 2018 is almost on par with 2016 for decent acts. Lol though I just noticed 2018 has Rich Brian (formerly Brian - formerly Rich Chigga).
I went to Bonnaroo 2007-2015 and the line-up evolution to today is staggering. Looking back, it's like every year was building and building until 2013 and 2014 when they just had EVERYBODY and then it withered.
Still, I agree with whoever said that the 2018 line-up is as good as we're gonna get nowadays. It's just insane that the price has increased so much. Tickets in 2011 started at $210. The 2018 line-up is worth $210 in today's money. Asking for $299 + fees, and $60 car camping + fees, is a ripoff. Going with my wife takes $800 before we even think about camping supplies, gas, food, souvenirs, alcohol, etc. Shaky Knees is $350ish and we could split a hotel with friends.
Last thought but did they HAVE to bring back one of the worst headliners that's ever played the fest. I truly hated the 2011 Eminem show. It was a joke. He played clips of songs, the hype man wouldn't shut up AND kept selling the new cd to the audience, his stage show was floating skulls and guns and shit like it was made on Windows 98. Coming off an astonishing Jay-Z 2010 performance, that Eminem show was the biggest waste of my time at Bonnaroo ever. And I skipped Mumford in 2015 to nap near the Slayer tent.

That's my question as well. I've kind of defended some of the lineups in the past, from a potential sales standpoint, but there's no way I can defend this one. There are so many similar - and better - options out there this year.

I don't see this selling as poorly at 16 but it definitely could. Looking on Stubhub you can't get a decent ticket to see The Killers on their headlining tour for under roughly $85-100. I have a feeling we all exist in a bubble where we overanalyze and are aware of many/most US fests, where as the typical consumer "might" be able to name 2 or 3 fests, total.
Eminem is the real wild card here...does he still have drawing power? Theres no word on a proper tour from him so theae fests might be your only chance to see him if you want to.
Not going this year as SK and 420 are more feasible and has more artists I haven't yet checked out but this lineup (save for the totally uninspired headliners) is really solid. Spafford, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, impressive billing for the Revivalists (came a long way from their 2013 Who tent show), unique Bon Iver sets, Broken Social Scene, STS9, that Billy Kenny b2b Mija, Southern Ave, Anderson. Paak are all great gets. Definitely better than last years, still not as strong as 2016 (I'm a big LCD fanboy) but certainly about as good as major fest will get this year in terms of variety.

Gotta be honest, I'm really digging the spotify playlist. Almost nothing so far has been trash and I've discovered several acts already I'd want to check out. At worst it's been kind of bland pop/singer-songwriter stuff, hardly any shitty edm or anything. I'm impressed
From a couple hours of the playlist I've enjoyed (new to me)
Alex Lahey Ron Gallo Saro Jade Bird Sir Sly Bayonne Duckwrth Knox Fortune Durand Jones Shiba San
I think we may be underestimating how many of these kids want to hear Mr. Brightside on "the farm"
Judging by sales for their current headlining tour they seem to be one of the only guitar based bands packing people into arenas.
On the train to Meadows fest in Queens last year, which is HEAVILY hip hop, an entire train car of high school/college kids was singing the fuck out of that song on the way to the festival, like we used to sing Billy Joel and Elton John on the bus on school trips. Was bizarre
If Bonnaroo was going to poach headliners from Carolina Rebellion (a month earlier and a state away) I wish they would have just gone with Godsmack instead of Muse.
Yeah I mean Eminem-Killers-Godsmack would look a little weird on the top line but it would be the type of bold risk that I think this fest needs to take.
Or I mean - other fests are sharing two headliners so why can't they just get rid of the Killers and take two from Carolina Rebellion? Eminem-Godsmack-Muse is the direction I think that needs to be charted.
I’m not. Especially considering this fest used to deliver acts like Flying Lotus, Jamie xx, and Four Tet.
The whole body of electronic acts are pretty solid. At the top you have Nectar, Virtual Self, Kaskade, and Rufus du Sol. In the undercard, we have CloZee, Shiba San, Manic Focus, Space Jesus, and What So Not (to name a few). If nothing else, the majority of electronic acts here are worlds better than who they could've booked (even though Carnage is objectively the worst).
